I recently bought a Stovax woodstove
I recently bought a Stovax Stockton 11. Defra approved, installed with a new flue liner. I am aghast at how awful and dissapointing it is to use. Having benn burning wood for over 20 years as my main source of heat, I feel I am reasonably well qualified to speak about this. The design of the stove is so poor that every single time the door is opened (unless the fire is out), it bellows smoke into the room. The installer check the chimney pressure which was very good. It comes down to the design of the baffle. There is such a small gap between the lip of the baffle and the door and the firebox, so when the door is opened the smoke simply bi-passes the baffle, a little I guess is being sucked up the chimney but 95% is pouring into my room.
I know some of you will be thinking "He's not using it right" but the installer agreed that its a bad design and the only way to use it is to only open the door on embers, no open flames.. I am beyond dissapointment.
I am now in discussions with Stovax to have them take it back. I think I will have a fight on my hands tho and suspect I will have to sell it at a great loss. Alternatively I could run it with out the baffle but then I lose control of the burn to a point, only being about to reduce the air intake. I could angle grind the baffle back to give a bigger opening to the flue.
