This Art Museum is nice but there s not much things to see. It s really great for taking pictures of family and friends and learning about our history but nothing of awe or great amazement.

Multi-leveled attraction for sophistication and time killing. Interesting interior design of natural wood, concrete and aluminum. Has coffee shop on the top level. Areas for kids and rest. Exhibits depend on time of month as there are new ones being updated quite often.

I loved the display for Rembrandt! We were able to get within a few inches to look at the fine detail. I wish they had benches for sitting, but I understand why they don't.
Group of Seven was good and the odd exhibits show the diversity of the Artists' ideas. As always the building itself is worth the trip.

Some very weird "art" some other stuff was very good. The tribute to women artists is quite nice and educational. There is also a section with some first Nations art with Caribou fur which is also really good. Staff is helpful and friendly. There is a room for self expression with playdough, white boards, crayons etc... There was also a section booked for a wedding reception.

Very interesting space. Installation was laid out very functionally, good flow, each part felt isolated in terms of story yet contributed to an over all impression of the creators narrative.
A couple of displays were a bit jarring in terms of noise compared to the overall silence. Technology is not always quiet.

Always a delight to visit the Art Gallery. Friendly staff, clean facility, and visually stunning. The exhibits change 4 times a year, offering variety. There is also a children's room which offers creative stimulation for children of all ages. There are classes and events taking place constantly. Very much worth a visit.

Very good location, easy to reach and in the middle of a city with many activities to explore. The architecture is quite impressive and in some way is part of the exhibition, it is a work of art. The show had guides who kindly came to introduce you about the artist and the museum. It has a cafeteria on the third floor and is accessible for people with special needs.

Good place to visit on a weekend or during special exhibits. Offers guided tours and has a gift shop. Also has around 5 to 6 different chambers centred around different themes that houses all sculptures and paintings. Has video exhibits too.

This art gallery contains extremely diverse art and represents Edmonton's vibrant culture. Great for school field trips and tours, the exhibits have exceptional architectural aesthetic and a selection of unique masterpieces. A must see if you want to explore the culture of Edmonton's art!

This would be better if there was a variety of types of art so there would be a little something for almost every one. It was all very abstract, interpretive and "weird" when we were there.

I have been to AGA many times now and the art is always interesting. It's quiet, not alot of people and the front desk is super nice. The only downside is that sometimes there's only one or two things to look at and then it's pretty much the end of what there is to see. It would be nice if there was more art!!!!

not the best use of space, felt relatively small and I was ultimately glad I went on a cheap night initially to check it out. the exhibits that they did have however, were varied in their awe inspiring.

Showed up for the Family Studio: Experimental Painting this morning with my 6 year old niece, to be directed to deserted rooms downstairs. Finally spoke to the security guard and another staff at the front desk when it was obvious the class was not taking place, only to be told there was no class today, and that there had been a mistake: it was clearly advertised on the website for March 23rd and another woman with child had bought tickets for it and was also wondering what was happening. Staff were quite dismissive. Not impressed, will not be back.

Connaisseur d'Art will love this place. Though not big on scales and volume, it is is really great on quality of contents, what ever it has!!
The architecture of buildings, it s inside layouts, the ambiance, the displays and the guest service will make your trip as pleasant as we felt here.

I was here with my wife and the front staff was nice and welcoming. We spent almost two hours and enjoyed the collection.

The coffee was tasty!! : the place

One Star less for parking dilemma

You have to be here to sense, how lonely and forlorn it looks at 10:00 PM in fading lights of June!!!

While not always at capacity in terms of exhibits they offer discounted entrance when a gallery is closed. Their tours are great, I wish they had them more frequently on the weekends. The aga brings in interesting works and hosts fantastic "refinery" parties

Best time to go is Thursday evening as the art gallery is free. Be sure to make a reservation for Zinc, just after the gallery closes and enjoy a nice meal and a bottle of wine. Parking can be tricky as it is down town, but if you listen to my advice, parking will be free at 6 and you will not have to worry.

Compared to some other Art Galleries in Canada thi...

Compared to some other Art Galleries in Canada this one is often quite boring. They have maybe one exciting exhibit in a whole year. Last time I went to see the old Italian masters and it was fantastic, but other than that there is not much to look at. Checked the lineup for 2018 and it doesn't look like I'll be attending anything. I would like to see something of a bigger scale - something that would capture public's imagination and get people excited about art. I seem to always find something great In AG of Ontario, so it would be cool those shows made it to us as well. Beautiful building though.

And if I get the response that art is subjective and therefore I just don't understand the kind of art they exhibit, I want to stop them right there. If year after year I get no desire to see this "art" then maybe it's not just me.

EDIT: Told you they would say "art is subjective, therefore you don't get it". It's like a standard reply of their's to every critical comment. I think curators here have a very homogeneous taste, which results in exhibit after exhibit of either bleak, minimalist Albertan art filled with prairie landscapes, or weird conceptual installations, or indigenous folk art. I like the last category, but the rest is dull, dull, dull.

We went to the Art Gallery of Alberta with 5 hours to spare. I was worried it wasn't enough, but we ended up leaving with an hour to spare. It is a cool place to check out, but it isn't really big. The gift shop is sort of weird for a gallery. I expected more art to buy, but it was mostly utensils for cooking and drinking.

However, for 13.50, totally worth it.

The building architecture was more interesting than the majority of the pieces inside(at the time I went), but with rotating exhibits it's rather hard to actually rate the place based on what's inside.
You'll want to look into what's on display before committing to a trip through here.

The gallery this time has a few sections on photography(effects of settings) and both urban and rural landscape paintings. The upper floors have a survivability theme to it! Ever wondered how people survived up in the true north? They have videos of their livelihood (warning animal blood and gore) Come and visit the art gallery!

Docent tour of temporary exhibit was well done. Permanent exhibit had an interesting way of using Canadian art to teach Canadian history. Nice mix of contemporary art installations and traditional pieces. Temporary photo exhibit (cutline) done extremely well, mixing multiple media to show history. Gorgeous facility.

I've lived in Edmonton all my life and have never ...

I've lived in Edmonton all my life and have never visited the AGA before, so I visited and am writing this review from the rooftop terrace. The good news for everyone who's worried about the reviews saying they charge too much or that it should be free is you can get your money's worth by 1) standing and looking at the building and then 2) not going inside; the art stops at the door.

The building itself is fantastic and stirs the imagination into dreaming up all sorts of possibilities of what fantastic art might be inside. What lies inside is anything but fantastic. First of all, the disappointment brought on by the total lack of art is only compounded by the fact that the art within ranges in quality from "garbage" to "steaming garbage" with a few pieces breaking the mould and stretching into a rating of "only mildly unpleasant". I am a student and as a result got free admission and I still feel ripped off.

I give this a one star because my girlfriend says that the washrooms are really nice and clean, which changes this trip from "total disaster" to "total disaster with nice washrooms".

Even if you do not go in, it's worth your while to go down to the Art Gallery of Alberta just to see the building. When you go inside it is just as manificent. The art displays change frequently and there's lots of parties and events. Check it out
