A clean and well-equipped fitness facility with lap pool, whirlpool, sauna, free weights, cardio equipment, Cybex cable-driven weights, and studios for stretching and group classes. Personal training, swim lessons, and personal training on request.
Membership fees are rather expensive; there are couple/family discounts, low-income memberships, and rebates from participating medical insurance plans.
Hours are set for demand (not a 24-hour facility) and closed on major holidays.

The great efforts they have made to keep services going safely during Covid deserve great praise. And all this on a shoe-string budget under great stress.
I had a previous review that was complaining about the facilities continual state of disrepair but since then they have had made plans for significant improvement (Those these have been delayed by Covid)
This YWCA is an important part of the Cathedral Hill and surrounding area's communities, so I urge everyone to do their part to support it.
I love this gym because it is not pretentious. Did you just want to work out at the gym and not show off your new workout clothes? Then this is your gym.The monthly fee is more than a lifetime or 24 hours fitness but the fee goes for a good cause so I'm fine with it.
This is a cozy environment with a complete set of fitness gear including a pool, sauna, multiple rooms for classes or stretching, machines and free-weights, ellipticals, stair climbers, recumbent cycling machines, a dedicated room for spin classes, treadmills, rowing machines, and more!
The facilities are well kept and the memberships are affordable, but the customer service is very poor. I was a member there for about a year, and I enjoyed knowing that my membership went towards community programs and support. However, I had a terrible experience with group classes, where they cancelled two group classes and didn't bother to give me a call or email to let me know. When I'd show up on the first day, and it became apparent that no instructor was showing up for the class, I'd go up to the front desk and (both times) they had no idea if the class had been cancelled or not. They gave me the email address for the manager. The manager did not respond to my emails, and all I wanted was my money back (since I had paid in full). I eventually had to go above him and email one of the administrators, and that got him to respond. When he did contact me, after weeks had gone by, there was no apology made or attempt to make it right. He actually responded quite resentfully, and only offered to give me my money back. Not even a, "I'm sorry for your trouble, and I hope you continue your membership." Although I did receive that response from the admin I had contacted. One of my friends also signed her son up for a swim class, and the instructor didn't show until the end of class - when he casually strolled in. The people at the front desk could not tell her what was going on, while her son sat by the pool for 45 minutes, waiting for a class that didn't happen. I told her this is, unfortunately, pretty par for the course there. TLDR: the management is unresponsive, immature, and the customer service is poor. I dropped my membership there and now go to a gym where my money, time, and commitment, is valued.
It bothers me that the whirlpool has been broken for months now while lots of other things seem to be dirty, rusty or very dated. Now the hours of service have been reduced while the membership rates have gone up. They are telling members it's because they are getting reduced reimbursements from insurance companies. I feel their pain, but I'm very tuned into what their competitors provide (even the ones that provide community services) and the YWCA is going to continue to lose membership if they are charging more for less like they are. If it wasn't for neighborhood people who like the convenient location they'd have very scant members.
I was a member of the YMCA for many years and I switched to this YWCA location on Selby and Western. I think it's far superior with better equipment and better staff. The excellent location is what drove me to join, but I stayed because of all the extra amenities and perks.
Really nice, helpful staff. Great availability of groups, plenty of space in studio or on machines. Has a pool sauna and hot tub so that's pretty sweet!
This is our work-out place. Have all the equipment you could ask for. Place is going to get a remodel but is clean with very nice staff. We are there 4 to 5 times a week.
Locker room showers were dirty. Small pieces of broken glass on the floor of the men s locker room carpets. A piece stuck to my foot when I put in my socks. $ Charge for towels. No built in locks. Would not recommend working out here to anyone.
The pool is always the right temperature, there's no annoying TV or radio noise, cell phones are banned, so there's no annoyance there, the people working out are all ages, weights and ethnicities, it's very kid friendly, the people at the front desk are always friendly and helpful and they have some excellent teachers and trainers. I've been a satisfied member for many years.
Convenient location great worker's family oriented great programs over all wonderful and welcoming place to be for everyone at all ages and backgrounds, but they just need to update their whole gym most of the things are worned out and Rusty especially the shower curtains are disgusting and the lockers super old, plus the pricing are too high for family packages.
