My husband and I recently stayed in Old Market and joined a cycling class at the Downtown YMCA at 8am on Saturday morning. The instructor Anthony was a fabulous instructor, very welcoming to us as one-time visitors. The class was AMAZING! I now judge every cycling class in comparison to the one we took from Anthony. The bikes and the studio were great as well, but this one hour class by this high caliber instructor was the highlight of our weekend trip to Omaha. Even his pick for tunes was superb. Everyone at the Y, employees and fellow exercisers, were over-the-top kind to us and made our time wonderful. I only wish we could take and Anthony spin class every weekend.

This gym has some solid equipment and the staff are very nice and knowledgeable.

Where my hangups is are the locker rooms. The general locker room has 4 showers with caution tape over them and a sign saying out of service. They have been out of service since my membership from Des Moines carried over in August to October. The drains on the showers that do work are questionable, a lot of the time the water doesnt go down and just sits there pooling. The ceiling has some spots where paint has started to peel off due to excessive moisture and there are some missing tiles in the floor. The shower controls are pretty coated in lime. Someone needs to replace those or douse them in CLR. The sinks and toilets are ancient and if you workout in the morning I wouldnt attempt to use the sink for shaving before work since theres virtually no water pressure.

I loved being a member of my old Y. Things got fixed, the staff kept the bathrooms clean. While I cant review how great the executive mens room is I cant believe they would expect members to pay full price for the experience I had with the general locker room.

Currently looking for a gym with a sanitary locker room with showers and sinks that work.

Travelled to Omaha for work for a week from TN. The downtown YMCA was able to offer me a week pass for $30 which was significantly less than any other gym I contacted. Stacy at front desk was very helpful & courteous. Plenty of equipment & even though it did get very busy I had no problem accessing cardio machines or weights that I needed to use.

I am really disapointed in the Downtown YMCA location. The steam room has been inoperative for a while now, not only that they charge so much for the steam room and the steam room in the lady fitness area is outdated looks like a time machine trapped in a time capsule, big cockaroches and it gets too hot when it does work . Im not understanding why they have not replaced the steam room after all these years and the price keeps going up.
Not worth it.

I loved this YMCA in my opinion, it's the best one in Omaha! I used to come here when I was younger and I joined their after school and Summer program. We went on lots of great field trips, the staff members were cool and I made lots of friends! And there was fun stuff to do there at the Y too! So I was never bored and I always complained when I had to leave. So if you have kids with no where to go after school or if you want them to get out of the house over the Summer, I recommend the YMCA.

I like how they get to go to the museum, the library, the teachers are great they are hands on and provide updates each day. I really like the variety of activities each day. My 3 year old looks forward to going each day.

If you can get past the very rude and terse front counter staff, the YMCA gym is well maintained but the day staff make for a very sour experience. They are not friendly and always act as if I am an inconvenience for them. Will not be renewing my membership in July, because I don't want to deal with that attitude every time I visit. It's a shame.

Other reviewers mention that this YMCA is clean, I'd like to challenge that belief and say that downtown YMCA is filthy and disgusting.
We know that this Y is an old building but come on, that doesn't mean that cleanliness should be thrown out the window.

Bathrooms appear to be cleaned occasionally, toilets and sinks are very old and some of the toilet handles do not work, leaving some nice surprises for anyone that enters. Lockerooms and showers appear to be neglected. One thing I do like is that there is a decent amount of equipment to exercise, even when it's packed.

So if you are here to work out and don't mind sanitation and cleanliness coming last, then by all means. This place is for you.

Great trainers, great facility. The hours work really well. The people working there are great. I have been working with the personal training staff and they have been great. They have great variety in equipment, but I wish there was an elliptical with open stride.
