Be advised: this ymca location is not child or single parent friendly. As a working class parent, I have a limited amount of time for exercise and where I go, my daughter goes. One of the reasons I am a member of the Y is because their supposed mission is to support members of the community and welcome them regardless of race, class, gender, ability. My daughter always waits for me and reads or does homework while I work out but I was informed that the Dowd location does not support this type of activity. Sadly, it seems that this location is not meant for people like me and my daughter. So a heads up to those of us who aren't bankers getting off work in uptown Charlotte--try another location because this one's not for us.

Great workout place. Staff is friendly and helpful. This place does say busy from 5am to 9 pm. Does have a little bit of everything: cardio, nautilus, racketball, full pool, steam and sauna. It's little weak on free weights. If you moved to CLT recently or in town for business is worth checking out. It's good place to run from as it borders some nice old neighborhoods. Parking is an issue, but the staff can show you where there some extra parking on most days although it belongs to the church next door.

A staple in the community. The upgrades were well worth the wait. They didn't just slap some paint on the walls and call it renovated, there's all new classrooms, an outdoor track, extra shower areas/ saunas/ steam rooms. They have more classes and now equipment. The website is interactive and has the class schedule for the entire week so you can plan your workouts out around your schedule. The hours of operation have been extended also.

Huge, litts to choose from and very flashy. I wanted to put on lip gloss and leggings before entering. They have SEVEN (7) floors! The kids center for child watch looked like a full service child care center. They even have a dry cleaners and towel desk. You can play/ enjoy all types of sports and classes. Then roll back out to your car parked in the parents with kids parking space.
Fancy Smancy - right? This was quick in and out trip for me. Did do too much.

I love this place.

I love this place.
I get myself 2 hours of quiet, swimming, hot tub and sauna.
They can watch your children while you get back in shape.

Lifelong member. It's a health and wellness leader in the local community. It has been beneficial to my family as far as personal growth. Spiritually fulfilling. Great place to network. Good people, good times and good food.

I loved the Y, I've had a membership for the last two years since moving to Charlotte 4 years ago. My son just came back from a week long overnight camp session. What I'm not understanding is why a family focused community based Christian facility, will shut down their locations since March and STILL charge full membership prices, without the members having full use of your facilities and amentaties. With global donations, Federal and private funding, and you never paused the membership fees while the community was laid off/ had hours reduced, going without, struggling, depleting their emergency funds? This level of carelessness greed is disappointing.

Bar none the best place to work out in the QC. Tons of great equipment and instructor led classes to choose from. It gets crowded during peak hours and parking can be a headache but the just opened a new parking deck which had eased that to a large degree!!

I canceled my membership within the 30-day window because I felt my local YMCA was not a good fit. Despite advertising a money-back guarantee on their website for canceling within 30 days, the person who handled my cancelation claimed no such policy existed. I called several times regarding this policy, and each time I was directed to a voicemail. I finally got a response and a refund after about a week, but I wish they would make this process a little easier for future customers if they are going to advertise it on their website.
