Best YMCA in Charlotte. Great staff and a nice, clean facility. Has a pretty good amount of variation in weights and machines. Can't wait to see what it's like after the renovation.

Honestly for the YMCA to be a family oriented gym. It's very indecisive about its rules with children. I clearly understand toddlers or even children of a age that needs supervision. I have a 13 year old son who loves basketball and finding a great gym to train with a court to yourself is hard. But how would a 13 years old look inside of a day care facility that you offer; for infants and toddlers.
By far my favorite YMCA location. The staff always greet you and are very friendly. My favorite part of my morning is my visit here.
I'm right here right now and they're currently under construction but still available for weight lifting, sauna, steam room, hot tub, swimming pool, and showers
Spacious locker room with friendly people, awesome conversation, amazing staff, clean environment
Suggestions: volleyball, massage, and bars (protein to beer and alcohol) plus a doggy day care would be fun
Safe environment
Love this gym, it has everything I need. Updated equipment, sauna, steam room, group classes and showers! It is also affordable especially for what you get. They base your monthly payment off of what you make. For a new mom trying to lose this baby weight it's amazing!
So clean and everyone is so friendly! The amenities are amazing.
I took my client to a yoga class who has intellectual disabilities and the teacher was not welcoming at all. Very disheartening
It's a little old as far as the actual building but equipment is kept up to date and great. Has a large pool. One of the few YMCA to have a large collection of free weights.
I will never forget how the staff was rude to me and I will get my exercise else where.
Great facilities, expanded parking. But currently under construction
This place is upscale. Had a country club experience working out here. You must check it out for yourself!
Great atmosphere and all state of the art equipment. Even saw that they are putting a cafe in soon.
Awesome place to work out and awesome people that work there.
Great gym, new expansion will be nice. Until then, parking can be competitive.
Under a lot of construction currently at the surrounding block. The construction doesn't affect the flow of foot traffic in/out of the block. Gym has several levels. Staff at the front desk is very helpful and friendly. Staff works on equipment immediately when equipment breaks down.
Nice staff, but some of the pilates instructors aren't teaching pilates, but something else really complicated.
One of the best Ys in Charlotte, they have all the amenities you could ask for.
Great facility but way too crowded. Don't expect your equipment to be open
From my experience it's a great location for working out.
Great YMCA with sauna and steamroom to wash off after a good workout or basketball game.
Wish this type of facility was in more prevalent in the region!
Friendliest YMCA staff I've ever encountered! Large facilities and lots of workout class options.
It's a really nice *commercial* gym. Friendly staff and nice amenities (very thankful for their daycare staff) but typical gym bros inside. Apparently it's super difficult for members to rerack weights in their proper place and/or wipe down the equipment after use. I wish the staff had as strict of policies with that as they do towel thievery. Also, their hours aren't ideal. Why not open earlier on Sundays?
Everything is just right no complaints
It it's true the building its. A little bit old but im not going there to stare at the building
GREAT! lost 68 lbs. through "The Fitness for Cancer survivors Program."..."Yea!"
This gym has everything... Two pools (one warm one cold), saunas, jacuzzi's, all the equipment you can name, and free classes with your membership.
Clean and nice equipment. A bit crowded, though. And it seemed as though the 'functional fitness' room is locked down to just classes. Brace Family may not be as nice but I do like the equipment selection better.
Very disappointed that they do not allow children under 16. My son was heartbroken.
My favorite YMCA -- friendly staff and love that there is a gym in the women's locker room as a second option to the main gym.
No kids . Beautiful facility . Great hour and great staff .
the best YMCA in Charlotte and the women health spa. Daycare for children, very safe and the staffs members are amazing. Definitely would recommend
Full service YMCA with lots of amenities. A men's area with a hot tub, steam bath, sauna, and free towels (but not to take home!). Very convenient to uptown.
One of the nicest YMCA gyms I've been to. Live the rooftop track!
By far my favorite Y around. Regardless of how busy it is, there is more than enough space and equipment to get a good workout in. The staff is very friendly, and the machines and facility stays clean. I love the dynamic of the outdoor track on the roof, as well as the crossfit on the bottom floor.. Great Facility!
Far too packed for how expensive it is... also pretty horrible service
A mix of very good & very bad. The good: convenient location/good neighborhood; updated exercise equipment. The bad: it s an employee-centered business, instead of customer-centered; the biggest example of this is the ridiculous hours. Closing way too early & fragmented hours, etc. Also, they need to finish adding dividers & curtains in the showers. Finally, they need security staff who actually patrol the locker rooms for thieves instead of chatting with the other staff or customers.
Large gym
Best gym in Charlotte
Rooftop track
Towel service and adults only are my favorite features about this location. Tons of equipment and great amenities.
I have always loved the DOWD. Amazing staff, great towel service. Usually the weight room is really crowded, and most classes, and the pool is small, but they are expanding soon so it should get better.
Awesome place to workout. 2 swimming pools. There is even a work out area within the ladies locker room for those that want some privacy while working out.
I enjoyed the facility, but the African American guy at the front desk was not nice at all, I felt slighted, it was my first time there, he pointed out certain things to , but I noticed a Caucasian guy came in and he took time to assist him... The one person turned me off...
Its Clean, nice employees. I, had the pleasure of meeting Cory. He, was so nice to me, i, sign up to be a member. Needed to get back into a swim class.
Liked that they had Security camera all over the building inside and Out.
Looking forward to my first swim class.
Sauna / steam room / hot tub, in the locker room. Two sets. Towels. Nice equipment. Expanding ever larger. Lots of classes and different speciality rooms (yoga). Best ever ymca. Closes at midnight? Opens at 5? Roof running? Wow
Can't wait for the parking situation to get done. Otherwise pretty good place
I try to live a healthy life by working on this one body I am blessed with. This YMCA is the best one I have ever visited hands down. I have seen others around the country but, this one has more facilities, equipment, clean and better staff. As comfortable as an upscale gym.
Great facility and staff. Looking forward to the completion of renovations.
Good healthy food and any kind of workout you could imagine.
Hands down the best gym I ve ever been to, it s a little crowded during peak hours( early morning and in the evening) but other than that it s absolutely perfect.
Great facility, but with the renovation, they seem to have lost some focus on the quality of things they provide. By this, I mean some equipment is difficult find due to limited supply and others like the rope attachments need to be replaced. Overall though, I enjoy the diversity this gym has to offer and look forward to the renovations to be complete.
Excellent company to work for and they offer so much to the communities. Family's please get involved!
Very new. Bustling. Fun place to people watch as you run.
The Dowd Branch YMCA of Charlotte, North Carolina is a great YMCA that gave me a great workout experience, and exceeded my expectations. Here's why I liked the Dowd Branch YMCA:
Dowd Branch YMCA has such a large variety of equipment for whatever type of exercise you might be looking for. For example, it doesn't matter if you're into cardio, weightlifting, swimming, spinning, running, or cross-fit because there's something for everyone. Not only does the Dowd Branch YMCA have a variety of equipment, but it's also the newest equipment on the market. This is not only the latest and greatest equipment (state of the art), but it's also laid out perfectly throughout the Dowd Branch YMCA. I have been to several other YMCAs, nonetheless, none compare to the Dowd Branch YMCA. No other training facilities or gyms can compete with the Dowd Branch YMCAs equipment, equipment cleanliness, employee professionalism, facility cleanliness, or overall facility as a whole.
Also, all employees at Dowd Branch YMCA are prompt, professional, courteous, and tactful. Every employee at the Dowd Branch YMCA went above and beyond for me. Dowd Branch YMCA of Charlotte, North Carolina has a welcoming atmosphere that leaves the customer wanting to come back time and time again.
The overall cleanliness of the Dowd Branch YMCA is above average from that of other YMCAs I have been to as well.
Finally, Dowd Branch YMCA is easy to find, and also has accessible parking.
Crowded and parking is hard to find unless you park in the garage. Currently under construction to expand.
I love coming to this location, it's under construction and will look nice once completed. I do however hate the temporary parking situation. Parts of the parking lot is under construction as well, which often means parking in the garage adjacent to the Y.
I can t say enough great things about the YMCA. The classes are fantastic, the trainers leading the classes are amazing (rare that you have a poor instructor) and the renovations have made the facility really stand out. Parking is a bit of a pain but that s to be expected with construction. My daughter loves going to the childcare and I love being at the Y.
I've been a member here for a few years now and I can safely say, this is by far and away one of the best YMCAs in the greater Charlotte area. That being said, the popularity and accessibility make this YMCA a very popular spot. During peak hours parking and traffic are deplorable - additionally, local construction has closed some of the overflow parking compounding the issue.
The free weights, racquetball rooms, and basket ball courts are sizable and well maintained. The warm and cool pools are small and become crowded during peak hours. The building itself is a little older but the facilities are always well maintained.
The staff has always been very friendly and welcoming. The level of service is very high and the facilities are typically clean, orderly and safe. I think the staff, services rendered, and pricing make up for the facilities aging edifice and undersized pool.
Under construction but good variety of equipment available
Complete large facility for most exercise activities. Towels included for shower or sauna. A Charlotte institution.
Great YMCA, very large with lots of amenities. Love the free towel service
A giant gym! Weight room, raquetball courts and the mens health club on the bottom floor, womens health center and pool access on the main level, and lighter weights and cardio machines up top. Lots of room, great group fitness classes and schedule, and workout options (as well as sauna) in the health centers for more privacy.
Lol love love loveeeeeee
Cannit wait until the additional 35000 sq feet of space. Amazing staff and very good classes
They have tons of classes available at all times of the day.
Best place to go for a work out or use the various amenities
You can work out there and they also have great food!!!!
Fantastic facility. Usually crowded, but that is to be expected with such a nice place and staff. Joining the Y (and this one in particular) has been the biggest reason I am still working out. Love it, and would recommend it to anyone.
Private locker room areas with steam room and sauna so relaxing!
The Y features individual exercise, group activities, and extras like childcare, pool and group trips for seniors. Cost is on a sliding scale, which makes it affordable for what you get.
I love the YMCA! My son and I are very active. He is in the their soccer league at a different campus and his confidence grows after every game. I love Dowd its the closest to uptown that has a child watch. And we live uptown so it s super convenient! But I was told that we couldn t run on the track because it s adults only. Their track is adults only! Huh? so I can be healthy but my 5 year old cannot. Very disappointing!
