Outstanding cellar door experience. Host was very knowledgeable and passionate about wines and knew the ins and outs. Wine was very good, especially the fortified wine (if we weren t travelling we would have bought it). Self guided tour around the estate was excellent with fabulous views of the property and surrounding landscapes. Totally self sufficient for power which is admirable at this day in age. Go for a visit you won t be disappointed.

Incredible experience. The world's most sustainable vinyard. Wine tasting and a 'self-guided' drive through the world's most sustainable vinyard Peter Yealands in Malborough! It was really interesting as they have a zero carbon offset, the largest solar installation in NZ producing 500 000 kwh, they produce 50 000 tonnes of compost (using the waste product of grapes, mussel shells, seaweed and sawdust from a local sawmill) to boost the vines growth, they use ex battery chickens and sheep to keep the grass down and they even play classical music to the vines .

The most interesting part was all the vine clippings at the end of the season they bail up (see picture) and then later burn to heat liquids as part of the wine making process, they then put the ashes into the compost! Each bale weighs around 200kg and when burned provides the equivalent heat of approximately 60Kg of LPG. At full capacity the burners can produce 500kW of energy, enough to keep the average household going for three weeks! This process eliminates over 180 tonnes of CO2 per year.

Other than the free wine tasting which was very nice, they allow all visitors to do a self tour of the vinyard with a map which was very interesting, came across some 'overly friendly chickens!' listened to the music and dodged sheep running between the vines! Anyway hats off to Peter Yealand and his winery!!

Amazing winery! Great little movie to start, really interesting to learn about the winery and what they stand for. The tastings and nibbles were delicious, in a comfortable setting and pace. The self drive tour was something a bit different, great to see the animals and get a feel for the vineyard and it s location.

A wonderful experience doing the self guided tour around the farm. I would really recommend it to anyone. The tasting at the cellar door was really good too, however, we were in a bit of a rush and did not get as much time there as I would have liked.

On the drive, make sure you greet the overly friendly chickens!

We had a wonderful experience at the tasting being educated and helped by Emma. She was a joy to be with.
Following we went on a self drive tour around the estate. This has to be one of the most beautiful vineyards you can imagine visiting. Seeing the vines, ocean and snow covered mountains from one location was mind blowing.

Some of the best wines around. Free tastings and self guided vineyard tour. One of the best companies in terms of taking on their environmental foot print. If you are in the area it's a must go. I will be back for sure.

Stopped at Yealands while visiting New Zealand on our honeymoon. We already knew the wine would be good (we do get some of it in Canada!), but the estate itself was stunning and Jess provided a lot of interesting history and information while pouring us samples. She was a lovely guide! Would recommend visiting this beautiful estate.

Great Staff, only problem we had is that the Google listing said Wine and Food, but they don t serve food, so we added 12kms to our journey for nothing.
Just checked 24/1/2018 Google category has been updated to Winery. Well done Google, enjoy this place.

Amazing overall experience. They have put a lot of effort in to the experience including self guided drive of the winery and video presentation about the start of the winery was a point of difference. Could imagine fun experience with kids as loads of farm animals to see and feed. Friendly staff! We weren't overly taken by the wines we tasted.

We stopped off at the Yealands completely by accident while road tripping along the South Island between Christmas and New Year. Drove out of the little town of Seddon, after stopping for fuel and refreshments, on a road named Seaview road, assuming it was a short drive to a lookout point, but was surprised when driving onto the most beautiful wine estate, with picturesque picnic spots for the public, an incredible lookout point and the chance to sample some fantastic wines! Definitely worth a visit if you are ever in the area! Lovely people working at the cellar and top quality wines!
