Yankee Hall Plantation Review

It is very unfortunate that it's gotten to the point of me writing bad reviews on Yankee Hall but here I am. I would not recommend this venue to anyone. This is a gorgeous venue- but don't let that fool you. The management is awful. Wanda, the owner, and her husband don't care to make anyone who steps into their venue feel special- to them you are just a dollar sign. I had my wedding here this year and although I was able to get some incredible pictures during our time there (due to having great photographers and it being a pretty venue) I will forever remember how unprofessional and rude the owners were to my guests and to me. During the time of our engagement, we had issues with Wanda raising prices on us AFTER securing our date and agreeing to their pricing. Call me crazy, but I believe that once a date is booked and security deposit has been given, any venue should honor their prices that were discussed at that time. Since I was budgeting everything myself, I had requested an itemized price list so I could see where I was at. After going back and forth in emails for over a month, I finally sent my price list to make sure we were on the same page- just to receive an email back that they had raised prices and I needed to adjust my total- something that I would have never even have known if I didn't reach out. We set up a meeting to discuss the prices and Wanda would not back down. She basically told me I could walk if I wasn't happy about the change- my wedding was a few month out so obviously that wasn't an option for me. That is a small example of how she treats her brides. During the day of the wedding we had planned to have a 4 hour reception- we also paid to have unlimited beer and wine during those 4 hours but sure enough at 9:30 (3.5 hours into the reception) they called for last call. Her husband was the bartender. He questioned everyone who ordered more than 1 drink- asking who it was for and then began counting people's drinks and would make comments to them if he felt like they've been ordering too much- making my guests feel uncomfortable to return. 5 minutes before 10:00, Wanda and her staff came into the ballroom, flipped on the lights and began taking linens off the tables. Wanda told several of my guests that if they didn't leave within 10 minutes that I was going to lose my security deposit. We were supposed to end everything at 10:00, and have 30 minutes to clean. Nope- Wanda wanted to be out of there as soon as possible. As guests were being escorted to the front for the sparkler send off- Wanda grabbed my friend by the arm and told her if she didn't help clean up and have everything out within 10 minutes, that I would lose my security deposit. My friend then began to cry and missed the sparkler send off to stay back and clean because she was afraid I was going to lose my deposit. First of all, Wanda, you don't put your hands on anyone. Second of all, you don't choose who is going to clean up- I already had people volunteer for that. Lastly, you don't threaten guests at a wedding based on OUR financial agreements- if you wanted to use my security deposit as a threat to anyone- it should have been me. Since the wedding, I had several people comment on how rude the management was at Yankee Hall. I urge anyone who is looking to have a wedding, or any kind of event, to find a different venue to work with.

This place is beautiful, however the owner is very unorganized and unprofessional. She will charge you for everything under the sun and constantly come up with new things to make you pay for. but watch out because she won't tell you about them until right before your wedding so you have no choice but to pay for it and if you protest because she told you it was included in the previous price then she will come up with some way to get her money. For example my husband and I were told that 100 chairs were included with the booking and then two months before our wedding we were told that she had purchased new chairs and we now had to pay $2.00 per chair, an extra $200! Which may not seem like a big deal, however we were paying for the wedding ourselves and did not have it to spare and had to take out a loan. She never remembered me, my husband, our plans, nor our appointments. Several times I had to sit outside and wait for her to arrive because she 'forgot' our appointments. She is just too busy to worry about anyone else.

My wife and I chose Yankee Hall as our venue to have our (Sep. 12th 2020) wedding and reception. The location was great for our outdoor wedding ceremony and the indoor reception hall worked wonderfully. The food they served was delicious. Setup and clean up was very stress-free for my wife and I thanks to their services.

Very disappointed with food and beverages offered. The two choices for beverage were water or sweetened tea. The food was not hot and the dessert was a joke. Would not recommend this venue for a large party. Maybe Yankee Hall was not prepared for a large group.

I will never send my clients or have her do anything for my family ever again! Yes, she worked with my bride with the cost but at what price do you have to pay for unprofessionalism & lies! She tells you one thing & then wants to charge for things that were supposed to be included that we were told at our meetings. I went to setup & then I was rushed out because she wanted to go to dinner with her husband, her sugar was getting low. I have worked for her 6 years & she treated me like I'm a stranger! I'm glad to say that I no longer work for her & I'm at peace from all the lies, unprofessionalism, & fake people that are there!

Amazing venue. Just proposed to my girl in their beautiful ballroom.

First time there the food was Great and staff was fairly friendly. There was a few moments where I felt as if we were being rushed. It was like get straight to it and nothing else. But other than that we loved it.

Beautiful venue. Outdoor wedding ceremony had a gorgeous gazebo under two beautiful trees. Trees provided shade although do be prepared for gnats. Reception area was beautiful and catering was very good. There was a band which was a bit loud for me, but you could escape to a nice size patio. The patio was close enough to the festivities to make sure you don't miss any of the reception traditions. The house was spectacular and very romantic with all the he outside lights. My picture does not do it justice.

Just had my wedding here. They worked hard to make sure everything looked nice. The food was excellent. The grounds were in amazing shape and really set a wonderful atmosphere.

I have attended many occasions at the Yankee Plantation and I have enjoyed each and everyone.

I was having a hard time finding a place to get married that fit what we wanted and fit our budget. A friend recommended Yankee Hall Plantation. When I arrived at the house I was a little surprised to see this amazing beautiful house right off of a major highway. Not only was the house amazing the staff were super on it.
I dropped everything off on Friday night and when I arrived Saturday afternoon everything was set up exactly as I had explained it to Wanda.
During the getting ready and the reception I was only asked a couple questions but the rest of the time the staff knew what to do. The food wasn't only hot and available for a long time it tasted amazing. The bartender was very quick with people's request and all of the wait staff were very quick to remove plates and were always available but not in an obnoxious way.
Yankee Hall made our wedding (that wasn't a very expensive or outrageous event) look classy and romantic, exactly what I wanted.
We got married Oct 27th, the weekend Sandy hit and I was disappointed to have my wedding ceremony in the ballroom but the way they set up the ceremony it didn't seem like it was the ballroom.
I would recommend Yankee Hall Plantation to anyone needing a wedding venue in eastern NC.
Only complaint: no email, everything is phone and paper. But it worked and nothing slipped through so it's clearly working for them. =)

My daughter had her reception and wedding at Yankee Hall this weekend and we couldn't be more pleased!The venue is beautiful and Barbra kept everything going so smoothly.Wanda and Willie are super nice.

I have photographed two weddings at Yankee Hall Plantation and have been amazed at how well run the venue is. The staff have always been professional, polite, experienced and a pleasure to work with. The food is phenomenal and the attention to detail is everything you could hope for on a wedding day. I would recommend it to any couple looking for a wedding venue.

My sister and I rented Yankee Hall Plantation for my mom's 60th birthday dinner on November 11th 2017. The building was reserved back in March with a deposit that was put towards our balance. When doing business I always read reviews and do a little research before choosing a business and there were some good and bad reviews. I personally dont have any complaints Mrs. Wanda provided everything that I requested and made sure my vision came to life. The staff is so sweet and worked so hard that night. The food was season and cooked to perfection and the decorations were beautiful. Everything flowed so smoothly and in order. My family will definitely be booking this facility again. The price range is very affordable when you're receiving a elegant venue, delicious food, and you're only job is to sit back and have a good time.

Everything is ready for you on time and the food and services is great.

Great atmosphere had a wonderful time. Love the house. Food was great. Great sound system, however. Bring your own projector and screen to be safe. Very nice place to visit. Thank staff!

I booked my wedding here in September for May and in March I was told that my wedding was double booked and I could no longer have my date. When trying to figure out this whole situation the owner hung up on me multiple times and was always too busy to help me. Do not let the beauty of this venue fool you when planning your wedding or party here. The owner is way too overwhelmed to take care of the place and is very rude. My wedding is not the first to be double booked, apparently it happens very often at this venue.

Beautiful antebellum house very spacious, and yet charming and comfortable. Staff are friendly and professional.

The food is delicious! The atmosphere is perfect and the owners are very genuine! The staff is awesome and I love me some Mrs. Wanda and Barbara!

My husband, family, and I were thrilled with the service we received at Yankee Hall. We held our rehearsal dinner and wedding there the weekend of August 6, 2016. The catering team, headed by Wanda, did a fabulous job setting up and preparing delicious food. Our wedding coordinator, Barbara, kept us organized and calm throughout the planning process as well as on the day of the wedding. Wanda and Barbara were very accommodating and generous in planning our day. The venue cost was affordable for all that was included and the final payment matched what was discussed throughout our planning meetings. My husband and I live out of town and Wanda and Barbara were very accommodating for our planning meeting, scheduling them for evenings and on weekends that we were available. Our expectations for the day were high and the staff at Yankee Hall went above and beyond to meet those expectations. We were thrilled with our choice of venue and if given the chance, we would do it again!

I could not close my eyes until I took the time to brag on a job well done by Mrs. Wanda and the Yankee Hall Plantation staff. They were professional, service was quick and the room set up was amazing. We celebrated my grandfather's 100 Year birthday and all the guests talked about how nice everything was and how delicious the food was.
I just want to say thank you on behalf of the family and guests of William Oscar Blount, Sr. I would recommend Yankee Hall Plantation to anyone.
