Always passed by this place for years in downtown Davis, but decided to try it out on Picnic Day 2K19. They were quite busy as everywhere else was, but we managed to get a table within 3 minutes of waiting. The restaurant really captures a Japanese atmosphere. We ordered the takoyaki and spicy gyoza. Both were great appetizers, but I wish the gyoza was pan fried (no big deal.) I had the tan tan ramen and loved the presentation/ spiciness of the dish. My gf had the mentaiko-soboro Donburu, and loved it too. The staff were extremely friendly and diligent on providing excellent service. I would highly recommend this place for the ramen too!

Truly the best Japanese food I have had outside of Japan. Every dish was innovative and vibrantly flavored, while also staying true to the Japanese palate. Kabocha fries, duck yakitori, agedashi tofu and shoyu ramen were all exquisitely executed. A thrilling find!

Nice place for either small bites, skewers, or a Japanese meal. No sushi though. The food was good, but I thought the skewers we're too salty, and not much flavor. The Sake was good. Service was great. I also thought that the price was too high for the quantity (I only took skewers). Overall trendy, but expensive place.

I think this is the best restaurant in Davis. The quality of the food is much better than other Davis spots. The ramens are really good. Our favorite dishes include sauted brussel sprouts, beef tongue, tsukune (minced chicken), kawa (chicken skin) and takoyaki.

The ramen was tasty, but the skewers were way too expensive. Also the donburi was mediocre, just a few skewers on top of scrambled eggs and rice. Also, this is my first experience going to a restaurant in davis and being told they do not have any highchairs. Not kid friendly at all. My toddler almost fell sideways off the chair head first had I not grabbed her in time. Scary experience. Will not visit here again.

A shrimp skewer, that was a single shrimp. I realize the word is both the singular and plural forms, so I wasn't technically lied to, but I didn't want to spend five dollars on a single damn shrimp. The portions were pathetic for the cost and the rather average taste of the food. We ate here in the past and enjoyed it, but something has definitely changed.

This is one of the best Japanese restaurants I have eaten at in California. It's izakaya style; it's casual. You can eat fairly inexpensively if you order some sort of noodle dish. If you you choose to graze on various small plates, the costs go up quickly--but it's not a rip-off; the food is worth the price. There's no sushi or sashimi, but all the grilled foods and noodles and other items are beautifully prepared and delicious. The service is friendly and efficient--on occasion, however, when it's been really busy, I have had long waits for food. The gyoza are to die for. This unique restaurant is a place you have to try!

Great food. Their menu is a bit confusing. I guess it's supposed to be like tapas it something. Omu soba was phenomenal. My wife's dish was good, but I can't remember what it's called. My only complaint is that they had run out of our first two choices for appetizers.

It's actually a bit expensive. In Davis's point of view, every person gets 40+. My favorite is the grilled beef tongue and yakitori donburi. Almost, every time I order two skewers of beef tongue, two skewers of pork, and one yakitori donburi

Walked in ot with the expecting much as it's on the main street of Davis. The food was super fresh and tasty. The ramen was good if nothing else it's a bit salty. The yakitori was great really focused on the flavor of the meat. If there is any advice it would be to not do specials like the guacamole but focus more on lighter sauces to bring out the skewers.

I've been going to this place since it first opened and I have to say, now that I'm moving away I'm really going to miss it! I lived in Japan years ago and this is a perfectly unique and authentic as a Japanese Isakawa restaurant can get. The owner, servers and chefs are absolutely awesome and as I say, I will really miss them. But I will be back as I'm on the road often. I will take a special detour to visit and enjoy amazing, authentic food.

The ramen is one of the worst. They served cold pork, the broth is flavorless, so it is not rich, and not as thick compared to standard quality ramen i've had in LA and elsewhere. The noodles are too thick too. The food is also too expensive for the portions that they give. And what's with the employees screaming "shamase" everytime someone enters? pretty repetitive. One star was given for good service though.

Good service and enjoyed the food. The food was a bit too salty thus the slight drop in eating. However, they do the skewers really well. Very tender and juicy. However everything is also a bit pricey but I think it reflects on the quality of the food.

This is a popular restaurant in Davis. The Japanese theme is fisian. I live in Jakarta and have many authentic Japanese restaurants. I thought this was OK but not spectator. The calamari was disappointing. The giaoza and agedasha tofu were ok. The fried Udon and Chicken we're good. The sake was excellent. My recommendation is to go in with low expectations and be surprised. Very nice saki. The veg is better.

I love this place. The wait time can be crazy long but the food is super tasty. The Ramen salad is insanely good. Great ambience with cool jazz music playing in the background. Open until 12 on Friday and Saturday.

Good Yakitori but prices are a major rip off. Like $5 for a small skewer that barely has any meat!!!! I don't mind paying for good food, but at least provide a decent portion for the money.

Their foods are great! A little pricey, tho. And they don t take Discover card. Love their Take-5 chicken set! With 5 different flavors: Teriyaki sauce, salt, wasabi cream, mustard, and roasted garlic for $11.95.

Extremely salty, unpleasant Katsu curry that would make japanese people ashamed. Coming in at $16+ for something I could barely handle is honestly amazing. I had to eat my fried squid with the curry just to balance out how salty it was. And when I asked for pickles (that SHOULD come with all japanese curries), they said they didn t have any OR I could order the pickle tasting platter. Absolutely terrible how could you call this japanese?

Food was delicious! We were able to try several different items and discover new foods. We really enjoyed the ramen, and the Omu Soba. Great place if you want to experience authentic dishes and to explore new tastes.

This isn't the typical Japanese restaurant you'd find elsewhere. There's no sashimi nor rolls. What you will find however is a great assortment of ramen dishes, rice bowls, and a wide variety of meat skewers. When you enter, you'll be greeted to jazz and a dimly lit atmosphere. You'll feel like you've been sent into early 20th century Japan, with Beer posters seemingly from that age as well. You most likely won't find a place like this anywhere near Davis/Sacramento.

Nice variety of yakitori and their ramens are good too. Great place to explore contemporary yakitori fare. The katsu curry plate is a large portion, but the curry, while not bad, is not the traditional golden brown curry you'd expect. Overall, a great place on the edge of Downtown Davis.

Excellent yakitori ambiance perfect for relaxed eating drinking and talking. The takoyaki are very good as is pretty much their entire selection. Make sure you go with friends and an empty stomach to enjoy it fully!
