Always passed by this place for years in downtown Davis, but decided to try it out on Picnic Day 2K19. They were quite busy as everywhere else was, but we managed to get a table within 3 minutes of waiting. The restaurant really captures a Japanese atmosphere. We ordered the takoyaki and spicy gyoza. Both were great appetizers, but I wish the gyoza was pan fried (no big deal.) I had the tan tan ramen and loved the presentation/ spiciness of the dish. My gf had the mentaiko-soboro Donburu, and loved it too. The staff were extremely friendly and diligent on providing excellent service. I would highly recommend this place for the ramen too!
Truly the best Japanese food I have had outside of Japan. Every dish was innovative and vibrantly flavored, while also staying true to the Japanese palate. Kabocha fries, duck yakitori, agedashi tofu and shoyu ramen were all exquisitely executed. A thrilling find!
They have this Ramen soup the best one I ever tried!
Not gonna lie this place is pretty pricey. I got a Chicken Katsu Donburi for $13.+ tax. Great service though and atmosphere is very nice. Not a huge fan of their music choice.
This is a bar. Not a ramen house. For the love of God, please google, stop trying to send me here.
Nice place for either small bites, skewers, or a Japanese meal. No sushi though. The food was good, but I thought the skewers we're too salty, and not much flavor. The Sake was good. Service was great. I also thought that the price was too high for the quantity (I only took skewers). Overall trendy, but expensive place.
Wonderful food and great service. The skewers are delicious, try the salt duck! The spicy tuna bowl was fabulous.
I think this is the best restaurant in Davis. The quality of the food is much better than other Davis spots. The ramens are really good. Our favorite dishes include sauted brussel sprouts, beef tongue, tsukune (minced chicken), kawa (chicken skin) and takoyaki.
Great service and food, cozy atmosphere. Will definitely be back.
Amazing everything! Owner is very helpful and hands on with our service
Pretty good and unique flavors! I got the wabiton and miso ramen and both dishes satiated the palate. We enjoyed the atmosphere and stayed long past our meal!
Great food but expensive and it's not open very long
Love the tongue, gizzard and pork belly skewers. Everything is so delicious that they surprise you continually. Excellent staff and atmosphere.
Great customer service, yummy pan seared gyoza, AMAZING spicy tan tan ramen. Would recommend!
Enjoyed the whole experience. Wanted to try something new and exciting. Was not disappointed.
Best authentic Japanese restaurant I ve had since Nara Japan great job guys. If in town need to stop in
This place was excellent! We'll definitely be back!!
Yakitori offers fresh ingredients for Japanese grill screws. You may also have ramen and rice bowl here, as well as small dishes. Great place to gather with friends.
Never disappoints; until they run out of the special and ramen, then it disappoints.
This restaurant has fabulous and unusual food. It is a Sake bar with tapas-like plates to share. Watch out, it's addicting! Don't miss the brussel sprouts!
The atmosphere here is great! The walls are dappled with fantastic posters and the air is always buzzing with the sound of laughter and good conversation. Highly recommend the ramen.
The ramen was tasty, but the skewers were way too expensive. Also the donburi was mediocre, just a few skewers on top of scrambled eggs and rice. Also, this is my first experience going to a restaurant in davis and being told they do not have any highchairs. Not kid friendly at all. My toddler almost fell sideways off the chair head first had I not grabbed her in time. Scary experience. Will not visit here again.
10/10, my boyf looks amazing in the lighting here (also he looks good anywhere)
5 stars for having, Orion beer. Beautiful restaurant, very good food. A true izakaya
I was stationed in Japan for two years and this is as close to a Japanese yakitori you will get here in the Davis. Get peach chuhai and katsu curry.
Amazing as always! Love the specials! Always excited to find out what's there on the weekends.
I can't pronounce this places name, but that didn't matter. Food was still good.
The place is nice and they have some real good ramen. There is a minimum 15$ to use credit cards though.
Great food. Great service. Neat ambiance for a college town.
Good food but limited items are very limited, if you arrive after 7pm....good luck,... means how good itvis
Nice atmosphere and the setup is cool. Food wasn't exceptional; the izakaya is good enough, but could be less salty. Service is fine.
A shrimp skewer, that was a single shrimp. I realize the word is both the singular and plural forms, so I wasn't technically lied to, but I didn't want to spend five dollars on a single damn shrimp. The portions were pathetic for the cost and the rather average taste of the food. We ate here in the past and enjoyed it, but something has definitely changed.
This is one of the best Japanese restaurants I have eaten at in California. It's izakaya style; it's casual. You can eat fairly inexpensively if you order some sort of noodle dish. If you you choose to graze on various small plates, the costs go up quickly--but it's not a rip-off; the food is worth the price. There's no sushi or sashimi, but all the grilled foods and noodles and other items are beautifully prepared and delicious. The service is friendly and efficient--on occasion, however, when it's been really busy, I have had long waits for food. The gyoza are to die for. This unique restaurant is a place you have to try!
Great food. Their menu is a bit confusing. I guess it's supposed to be like tapas it something. Omu soba was phenomenal. My wife's dish was good, but I can't remember what it's called. My only complaint is that they had run out of our first two choices for appetizers.
Food was awesome but we waited for an hour and a half before we had food in front of us
Left poorer and still hungry. Parts of the menu weren't available and the food portions were small for the price.
It's actually a bit expensive. In Davis's point of view, every person gets 40+. My favorite is the grilled beef tongue and yakitori donburi. Almost, every time I order two skewers of beef tongue, two skewers of pork, and one yakitori donburi
Walked in ot with the expecting much as it's on the main street of Davis. The food was super fresh and tasty. The ramen was good if nothing else it's a bit salty. The yakitori was great really focused on the flavor of the meat. If there is any advice it would be to not do specials like the guacamole but focus more on lighter sauces to bring out the skewers.
Great Japanese food. Good place to eat out with friends for few hours
I've been going to this place since it first opened and I have to say, now that I'm moving away I'm really going to miss it! I lived in Japan years ago and this is a perfectly unique and authentic as a Japanese Isakawa restaurant can get. The owner, servers and chefs are absolutely awesome and as I say, I will really miss them. But I will be back as I'm on the road often. I will take a special detour to visit and enjoy amazing, authentic food.
Very late offer ! Wrong bill and a long wait for a correct bill ! Food is of average.
Excellent fare, priced fairly for the quality. Very prompt service and helpful
The ramen is one of the worst. They served cold pork, the broth is flavorless, so it is not rich, and not as thick compared to standard quality ramen i've had in LA and elsewhere. The noodles are too thick too. The food is also too expensive for the portions that they give. And what's with the employees screaming "shamase" everytime someone enters? pretty repetitive. One star was given for good service though.
Had pumpkin chicken skewers pork belly and tuna. Everything was outstanding!!!
Good service and enjoyed the food. The food was a bit too salty thus the slight drop in eating. However, they do the skewers really well. Very tender and juicy. However everything is also a bit pricey but I think it reflects on the quality of the food.
This is a popular restaurant in Davis. The Japanese theme is fisian. I live in Jakarta and have many authentic Japanese restaurants. I thought this was OK but not spectator. The calamari was disappointing. The giaoza and agedasha tofu were ok. The fried Udon and Chicken we're good. The sake was excellent. My recommendation is to go in with low expectations and be surprised. Very nice saki. The veg is better.
Our family's go to for yakatori. The charcoal flavor of the grilled meats keeps us coming back from Elk Grove.
So amazing, everything was unique and delicious, try the garlic anything!
The best restaurant in Davis. Fair price and good food. All the menu is worthy trying at least once. Pork cheek skewers, the best!
Really busy and popular, Good ambience and food
I love this place. The wait time can be crazy long but the food is super tasty. The Ramen salad is insanely good. Great ambience with cool jazz music playing in the background. Open until 12 on Friday and Saturday.
Here, ramen and yakitori are good! It is an indispensable shop for Japanese people! A
Fantastic food, good service, overall good experience.
Excellent service and staff with great unique Japanese food you dont see in very many places.
Good Yakitori but prices are a major rip off. Like $5 for a small skewer that barely has any meat!!!! I don't mind paying for good food, but at least provide a decent portion for the money.
Love, love, love the place!! The food was heavenly and the Bartender was a gem.
Their foods are great! A little pricey, tho. And they don t take Discover card. Love their Take-5 chicken set! With 5 different flavors: Teriyaki sauce, salt, wasabi cream, mustard, and roasted garlic for $11.95.
Om nom nom in a relaxed, modern and traditional blended atmosphere. Amazing flavorful food. Friendly staff. And a wonderful owners.
My 4th time visitng this restaurant. Fast friendly service! Food is absolutely delicious, taste reminds me of when i used to live in Japan! A must visit place!
Wonderful restaurant that's authentic Japanese BBQ. They fly in the charcoals, so you really get the same taste that you do as if you were in Japan.
Davis finally has a good ramen place, tan-tan ramen to die for.
Great late night place to eat. Prices are great. Food is wholesome.
Extremely salty, unpleasant Katsu curry that would make japanese people ashamed. Coming in at $16+ for something I could barely handle is honestly amazing. I had to eat my fried squid with the curry just to balance out how salty it was. And when I asked for pickles (that SHOULD come with all japanese curries), they said they didn t have any OR I could order the pickle tasting platter. Absolutely terrible how could you call this japanese?
Great service and excellent meat skewers. The small plates were the highlight. I've never had beef tongue that was tender and flavorful before.
Amazing place, has a nice Izakaya type feel to it. Serving staff is also really great.
I had the Tan Tan ramen and it was fantastic. This place is very authentic and a great price for what you get.
Everything I've had here has been pretty darn good so far at a fair price. The yakitori is okay, but I feel as though entrees like the omu soba are a much better value.
Food was delicious! We were able to try several different items and discover new foods. We really enjoyed the ramen, and the Omu Soba. Great place if you want to experience authentic dishes and to explore new tastes.
I got really good ramen and you can too. Just ask me how!
Cool and funky eatery in Davis. Great great food and very friendly service! Reservations recommended.
This isn't the typical Japanese restaurant you'd find elsewhere. There's no sashimi nor rolls. What you will find however is a great assortment of ramen dishes, rice bowls, and a wide variety of meat skewers. When you enter, you'll be greeted to jazz and a dimly lit atmosphere. You'll feel like you've been sent into early 20th century Japan, with Beer posters seemingly from that age as well. You most likely won't find a place like this anywhere near Davis/Sacramento.
Nice variety of yakitori and their ramens are good too. Great place to explore contemporary yakitori fare. The katsu curry plate is a large portion, but the curry, while not bad, is not the traditional golden brown curry you'd expect. Overall, a great place on the edge of Downtown Davis.
We had fun celebrating our son's bd. Had a great time sharing tasty, fresh food!
Excellent yakitori ambiance perfect for relaxed eating drinking and talking. The takoyaki are very good as is pretty much their entire selection. Make sure you go with friends and an empty stomach to enjoy it fully!
