We are lucky to have a conservatory that treats it's animals so well. The cages are always clean, food and water stocked, and the animals are vocal and playful. They have a wide variety of avian species and they keep including more. More exhibits open every time I go. Best of all, it's free! (Please donate)
World Bird Sanctuary is really a great venue for all events. Go there on a date, with the kids, friends, by yourself. Everybody is guaranteed to have a fun and memorable time.

While the amount of birds on display has decreased over the years, it is still a fun free activity to fill in afternoon with the family and kids after a drive through Lone Elk park
This is an extraordinary place for all ages! The staff is very knowledgeable about birds of prey and the beauty of the place is unparalleled. Took a group of Girl Scouts and they enjoyed it immensely.
Great experience during the Amazing Animal Encounters. Staff is well informed and educated. Recommend bring blankets and chairs for falcon show at park.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. It is wheelchair/ handicap accessible so all can enjoy. There are also steps, but a wheelchair would still have access because they have other ways in.
It has variety of birds. We stopped by June the 14th and only had drive through exhibition. No getting off the vehicle and every 30 feet or so a care taker with a raptor bird tells you about it and answer questions. In all it took about 10 minutes.
A good place for whome searching for birds as pets. The price are reasonable and main attraction are lovebirds, finges, African birds. Also a good collection of ornamental fishes , which among veriety Guppys are attractiv.
Amazing non-profit! Beautiful property! Lots of cool animals and events. Great staff and volunteers! Fun little playground. Super cool birthday party packages!
Nice place to visit, a lot of displays. Don't let the sign fool you. It says free, but be ready to be ambushed st the gate for an $8 "donation" per person.
I started volunteering here because I love animals and the staff is all very well trained and super friendly. They take extremely good care of the birds and are all super knowledgeable about their work. I couldn't be happier to be a part of it and help out where I can.
Great place. Rustic. The kids loved it. Lots of spots to have a picnic. FREE. Also conveniently located beside Lone Elk park, also free! For a short hike to a neat spot, take the Hickory Trail down to the bottom of the hill, head left on the gravel road to the Tunnel Trail and follow the tunnel trail under the railroad bridge and to the Meramec River. Nice spot. Give yourself about an hour to hike it, and take a bottle of water.
This was the ABSOLUTE WORST experience I have ever had at a place that very wrongly calls itself a sanctuary. I love lone elk park and frequent it very often and have seen the sign for World Bird countless times always wanting to go there. I was thrilled when my boyfriend and I finally got the chance to stop in. The very first exhibit we walked up to was for lack of better terms- a dirty wood chipped fenced in area maybe a 3rd of the size of a tennis court with about 10 birds in it. Each bird was tied to a post sticking from the ground with with leeway of maybe a foot around them to walk. Birds of prey were stuck next to predatory birds, obviously creating an EXTREMELY stressful environment for all the birds around. And what made me know how mistreated these birds were was that not one was moving. Each had a dead, lifeless stare like they had long ago given up trying to escape or being afraid of the other birds around them. One vulture tried to get off its post and move even a foot on the ground and fell, struggling like something was wrong with one of its feet and one of its wings. Another birds eye looked very infected. As an animal lover I was absolutely HORRIFIED, and decided to ask an employee there about the birds--if they were ever allowed time not tied down, where they went at night, etc. He was an older man and incredibly rude, telling me these animals never get a chance to fly or be untied and are moved to cages at night and in the winter. His reasoning was that since birds perch on trees in the wild that this was a suitable environment for them being tied to a perch and would be "what they do all day in the wild anyway." He assured me that the birds were as happy as they would be in the wild. He compared the birds to the laziness of humans and said since humans sit around all day and don't use their feet that birds are the same and don't feel the need to fly or use their wings all the time. To me for anyone who knows even the slightest bit about wild animals this is TOTALLY wrong. He said that suitable environments "cost too much money" and that if this place closed all the birds within it would be euthanized. This man literally had me in tears at the end of the conversation because of how wrong he was and how frustrated I was with the mistreatment of these beautiful animals and me and my boyfriend left immediately. They would be better off in a zoo environment than this facility which is definitely saying something. I will be contacting as many environmental organizations as I can to close this "sanctuary" or at least create suitable environments for these birds. NEVER bring your children here if you want them to have a real idea of how animals should be treated and that wild creatures aren't something that should suffer tied to the ground just for our viewing pleasure.
Really cool bird sanctuary where they rescue and house injured birds that cannot survive on the wild. They have several different types of birds ranging from a snowy owl to a condor. We went during world eagle day and saw a fantastic bird of prey show!
Great place to bring kids to learn about birds as well as taking a drive through Lone Elk Park. Buffalo and Elk as well as White Tail deer and other wildlife.
This is a very good place to bring the kids, very educational, they can learn about conservation and it has a fun playground for little guys. Help the cause!
Excellent walk and see place. Perfection for tiny ones. The path is wide and level, there is something to see every few feet, and a small playground. The birds are amazing and the staff is pleasant.
My kids and I love this place. We have been coming here for years and on our most recent visit, I gladly donated to their newly suggested donation at the entrance! Despite the covid threat, I felt safe and confident throughout the experience. The playground is still currently closed.
It's a great place, and it's not like you need customer service there really, but the kid in the gift shop never even looked up from his cell phone. I would still go and look around, awesome place, especially for kids.
How have we never visited this wonderful place before! Super friendly and knowledgeable staff, lots of birds, plenty of trails to wander through, it really is a must see!
The birds are tied down with a short rope in a tiny enclosure. They try to justify it by saying birds of prey are lazy. So are humans but I don't think anyone would call it humane to tie someone to a chair for their entire lives. Some of the birds couldn't even move themselves into the shade. This is not a sanctuary
Employees and volunteers are friendly and cheerful. I love being in nature and able to see and the birds up close. Those caring for the birds are knowledgeable and very willing to answer questions.
Had an absolute blast! So cool to see birds from around the world like a Kookaburra or even a red tailed eagle! Would highly recommend for anyone to visit!
Absolutely love they are continuously trying to improve the bird's enclosures. Wish Some of them were a little larger for the birds but hopefully in time they will be
I took my grandson to a presentation called an owl prowl. It included a 1 hour lecture inside their nature center, including a chance to see four different owls up close. In addition they did several flyovers of the owls over the audience which was exciting, but a little scary when it look like one was headed right for me. After the lecture we took a walk in the dark through thechance to see for different hours up clothes. In addition they did several fly overs of the owls over the audience which was exciting, but a little scary when it look like one was headed right for me. After the lecture we took a walk in the dark through the outdoor center and our guide used his phone and speaker to send out different owl calls, some of which we heard answered buy owls in the wild. Highly recommend this event which is going on through February.
Yet another Eagle project workday. The World Bird Sanctuary is happy to have Eagle Scout candidates complete their projects there. Many of the facilities have plaques on them with Eagle Scouts' names on them. It's a great place for a family visit.
Beautiful place to visit with children, number of big birds are there. Staff members are friendly. Likely more birds are going to be there as lot of construction is going on.
It s a bit spread out for visiting if the weather isn t nice, but it s still a neat place to visit for a few hours. The informational programs are great.
Great place to take the family. They do have a lot of construction going on right now to some of the birds exhibits due to tree damage during February. Great place to see beautiful birds, go on their hiking trail and the playground for little ones.
