Excellent small contemporary art gallery in the East End, which is above Aldgate East tube station. Has a very good restaurant and cafe, and a small bookshop.

Great public gallery spaces in East London. Beautiful old building.
Always a pleasure to visit. The book shop is amazing!
Beautiful exhibitions, lovely shop, beautiful location! One of my favourite art museums in London.
Modern art gallery in the whitechapel neighborhood. It has two floors, it is free and it also has a free left-luggage service to leave things and visit the gallery with complete peace of mind. The staff of both the gallery and the bar are very friendly and answer all the necessary questions.
Quite a small art gallery, I only visited the free sections. Several galleries display video art, and there is a room dedicated to the artist "Jackson Pollock" and his painting "Summertime": looks like someone's gone a bit wild with slap on paint, but who am I to judge, that's contemporary art for you.
Excellent contemporary gallery & free entry with very good coffee.
A stunning gallery with beautiful spaces and great people.
There are some generous reviews of this space, but I find it the least gratifying gallery experiences in London. The installation is generally poor, the architecture is broadly incoherent and the programme is moribund. Pretty much every exhibition costs a fortune.
Beautiful place on a human scale with avant-garde artists
Interesting exhibits. Was here on a first Thursday, fun to explore in the night, but a bit noisy with all the wine drinkers chatting.
A must visit for everyone interested in no main stream contemporary art.
quite uninspiring and small space, at least for the free exhibits
Very interesting exhibition at the beginning of March 2018. Fabulous what you are doing with schools. Being partially sighted I found the gallery itself a bit challenging. Could do with more direction in order to find all of the gallery rooms.
Although I came here to visit, but only in the lobby to browse and rest, the friends in the art field of the same industry are very happy to go straight to the inner hall to watch, but after coming out, although not disappointing, only to see whether the areas of interest are consistent, Otherwise it is hard to find moving (I heard the interlacing like a mountain...)
P.S. There is a free toilet in the basement.
Famous East-End gallery with a range of interesting exhibitions often with free admission.
Mikhail Karikis video projection on the 3rd floor made my day.
Avant garde gallery that is well worth a visit. Has been in the forefront of contemporary art for many years.
Very supportive of their artists, lots of interesting things! Great film screenings
Interesting modern and social, internet culture works of art.
intreging mix of contemporary art exhits, not all to my taste but nonetheless an overall interesting collection. free to enter and well worth visiting and maybe leave a donation on leaving to help it continue to provide such future events.
Fantastic photography exhibitions and other art exhibitions.
Went to the wine bar in the evening and enjoyed some live harp playing! Great and friendly service.
Main exhibition area was closed as a new exhib was opening, but it is a really nice small gallery to visit. Interesting items in gift shop too!
Possibly went on an off day. There just didn't seem to be that much to see when we went. Nice space though.
Did the free exhibition and was not disappointed at all
It was a gallery with a glimpse of minority and hipster stagnation!
One of London's prominent galleries usually featuring some of the most forefront artists.
Great place, but bring sweater with you, it's really cold inside
Modern art is like a mirror: if you have so much inside you, you have so much to see, but if you have nothing in it ... there is so much to see, if you don't see ...
Excellent exhibition space in White Chapel. Often has a mix of free and paid exhibitions to check out.
Disappointed. The style of modern art that leaves me with marble. Better to go up Brick Lane for its street art walls.
Nice gallery, I saw all the time interesting exhibition...
Very high quality exhibitions. Quiet, chill and peaceful place.
Great gallery, great location and liked by many including myself. I can't shake the feeling that it's trying too hard tho.... it's airy..... arty...... and yet slightly over it, even though I do appreciate the enormous efforts being put in to make this in to a world class gallery ( which it is) perhaps I'm too old school Spitalfields | Shoreditch. Go and find out for yourselves- great part of London, easy to get to and worth a visit.
It was interesting for sure, a little avant garde for my wife's taste. She described the Nalini Malani exhibition as seeing inside the mind of a schizophrenic. I however found something of interest throughout all the exhibits. The main drawback is the gallery's size so the visit was over far sooner than I would've liked but not much they can do about that, there are other exhibitions you can pay to see but we only took the free entry so can't complain much.
Great gallery which is located next to aldgate east station
the modern art was really poor a few ropes . a piece of cloth. broken perspex box.
Free art exhibition, when I went there was a lot of video art, although I couldn t understand what it meant but it was still very fun....
The gallery space itself was fine, exhibition was okay. My only complaint is that I was followed awkwardly almost the whole time by a staff member. I even tested my theory by repeating routes and following certain patterns. I'm not sure if they thought I was going to ruin any of the pieces (I wasn't standing very close, nor did I carry a large bag) or try to steal something? It was weird, super annoying, and ruined the experience for me.
A little gem of an afternoon visit in the middle of the city. Wide selection of art across the rooms. Went for a particular photo exhibition had read about in the Guardian and was not disappointed.
Wonderful and topical exhibitions. Lovely 'space' to relax in. Great food.
A visit is worthwhile in any case, you just have to get involved in the works shown.
Would love to visit when less busy. Exhibits feel a bit challenged in the space n
A fantastic venue for usually avant-garde modern art. Beautifully restored classical building with gorgeous, fine and smart cafe up front, most out of keeping with the run-down area. Small but well curated for the size and status.
Note the building was designed by the architect who designed the Horniman Museum in Forrest Hill.
Amazing little gem! We enjoyed the restaurant as much as the exhibition.
Great space for art! Some exhibitions are free. Nice staff!
Free gallery, close to Aldgate East tube (special exhibitions charge). Excellent for a wander, and very good downstairs cafe.
A great space with some enjoyable spaces. Has a great bookshop too.
Always amazed how this gallery brings a fresh and often visionary view on art and society. The building and it's layout have something intimistic.
Definitely worth to add to your todo list on your next stop in London
