Hello, this is Brian Kenney, the director of the White Plains Public Library, and I am writing in response to Gabriela Flores' post below. I have
had a chance to speak with Ms. Flores, and again I would like to thank her for writing this review and bringing this incident which no Library user should ever experience--to our attention. It is a matter of the utmost seriousness for us.
Several years ago, the Library created a Customer Service Policy that addressed how everyone who uses the Library should expect to be treated.
In part, it states that the Library is committed "...to provide equitable and accessible customer service to all patrons both in person and remotely. Each staff person, regardless of job title, is responsible for providing service that respects the dignity and privacy of the library patron regardless of age, race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, gender, physical limitations, sexual orientation, or any other criteria. All staff members are empowered and expected to offer assistance."
This policy is our promise to the community. It is one of our most important policies, and one that we, as a Library, need to revisit again and again.
Finally, I encourage anyone with a concern about our Library service to contact me. Thanks, Brian
