This is as close to a human hospital for your pet ...

This is as close to a human hospital for your pet that you will find in this area. The entire staff is great. Dr Murphy has helped us through a half a dozen surgeries over the years and I never lose sleep over whether my best friend is in the best hands available when I bring them here. It's not for every sniffle because it's pretty expensive but if your pet has a osteo injury or needs a major surgery there's nowhere else I would recommend.
Update: We had another TPLO performed here and once again, we never cease to be impressed. Dr Murphy never over promises and always prepares us for failure even though he has always delivered. I won't lie, we are reeling from our dogs medical expenses after two acl tears in one year (it put us a used car into debt) but west vet was no more expensive than any other surgical group around and I will go nowhere else at this point.

This was an after hours emergency. My 13 year old lab had liver cancer and began to bleed internally and swell up like a Ballon. We called around and decided to bring her in at 8pm. They were amazing I was a wreck, but they were accommodating and took amazing care of my beloved furbaby. They allowed my kids and DIL and husband be present while we sentvher on a heavenly vacation. They kept her safe until Gentle Goodbyes to could come and pick her up in the am. It was affordable and everyone was so kind and loving and caring Thank You

I have gone to you twice in the past two weeks for...

I have gone to you twice in the past two weeks for emergency intakes. The first was because my cat was spayed and she had horrific pain, bruising, and swelling at her incision site. She was in a lot of pain, was barely moving or eating, and was lashing out at my husband and I every time we came near her. It was awful. I drove to Garden City from Nampa in the middle of the night. When I arrived, a vet tech came out to ask some questions. She didn't even introduce herself, my cat wasn't even taken out of her carrier to be examined, the vet tech took a short glance at the pictures I'd taken on my phone, and deemed that the bruising and swelling was normal after a spay and sold me a cone, even though she wasn't messing with her incision site at all She is finally starting to feel better two weeks later but she was in extreme pain and could barely move for those two weeks. I would have GREATLY appreciated at the very least having her incision looked at, maybe an offer for more pain medication since after her spay they only gave me 3 days worth of medication and she was in pain for far longer than three days. The clinic she was spayed at even thought something was seriously wrong with her incision, that she may have been rejecting the stitches and recommend I come to you since they could get me in soon enough and they seemed it an emergency.

The second experience happened just tonight. I brought in my new cat. I adopted him two weeks ago and his health has been slowly declining since he came home to me. Today he was extremely lethargic. His eye had been goopy, his gums were so pale they were practically white, and the yellow greenish mucus that has been dripping out of his nose turned to blood. His poor nose was covered in blood. Once again, I park, a vet tech looks at him, checks his gums and says they are "perfectly pink" (which they were NOT in any way), says that he may have feline herpes, to give him lysine with his food, and come back if he's having trouble breathing. He was already having trouble breathing because his nose was filled with mucus and blood. I was told it would be a waste of money to have him seen by a vet. So once again I drove back to Nampa without my cat even being examined by a vet.

In either situation I was NOT given an option to wait and have them seen. I would have paid the emergency fee, I would have waited for hours to have them looked at, but both vet techs I encountered acted like there was absolutely nothing to be worried about. It was incredibly frustrating to be met with such a complete lack of concern in two situations that I believe were entirely emergency situations where my cats SHOULD have been seen by a vet, my concerns should not have been talked over and treated like I was overreacting. I am completely horrified and disappointed that your vet techs seem like they are more likely to encourage you to just leave and that nothing is wrong instead of at least offering the option to wait to have a real vet inspection instead of just looking at pictures on a phone or completely missing the snow white gums of a very sick cat. I will definitely not be suggesting your office for emergency situations since your vet techs seem to think nothing is an emergency if the animal is not bleeding out in the car.

My husband found an injured bird of pray @ Arrowrock Res. He returned home and called the two people in Boise that are the experts on this matter and take injured birds. We were advised as good Samaritans to retrieve the bird. We told them it had a broken wing so they were aware of that. We spent 6 hours retrieving the bird, a very sweet Osprey. The bird was by Rattle snake creek and the water level was only 1.5 feet and we were in a large boat. The expert told us if we could not reach her to take it to WestVet. The vets were leery about even taking the bird out of the cage. We offered to do it but of course they would not let us. When I called back to check on the bird they had already put it down and said it was because it couldn't be returned to the wild. The bird had not even been there 90 minutes by that time. The experts we spoke to knew the wing was broken and we were under the assumption it would live in a sanctuary. They just don't have time for these types of things. They didn't even observe it overnight. We were so happy that the bird would be taken care of. I got the feeling that this clinic is just a clearing house. It broke our hearts. I won't be back with any animal.

It's stressful to bring a beloved pet to WestVet since the clinic represents high-level care beyond the regular vet service. The staff demonstrates they understand that and work hard at minimizing the natural stress of being there.

My pet is seen by oncologist Dr Carrie Hume! They provide excellent care, honor priced discounts, and are able to see my pet during any given emergency. The emergency department and oncology department work hand in hand and so my pet receives the best of both worlds when and if he needs medical attention.

If I could give a zero I would. Worst follow up services ever. If you think you are just going to walk in and get stiches removed or something simple that they say is "complementary" be prepared to wait for several hours. Or wait days if not a week or more for an appojntment.

I took my 8 week old puppy to them at 3:45am howling in pain and they refused to see him because I am broke and homeless. My puppy is my E.S.A (Emotional. Support. Animal) and even though I tried to set up a payment plan on the possible bill they turned us away. They are nothing but money hungry, rude, inconsiderate people who only want to help people who have lots of money to give them.
I even tried to set up a Care Credit Card Account and was declined for that because of being homeless and unemployed due to having a full hysterectomy November 18th, 2020 and shoulder surgery December 11th, 2020 I would not even send my worst enemy here because of how poor

I had an emergency for my 13 and half year old maltese that was already having health issues, our vet that we usually go to was closed and we took him to west vet right away , my dog wasn't walking at all and they assisted us right away, it was time for us to put him to rest, my husband and I walked in crying and West vet was so sweet and compassionate to us, they provided a nice, calm room, they give us all the time we needed and checked on us often, so we could spend the last minutes with our dog, this dog was part of our family, like our child, and they were so kind, I will always be appreciative to them!

Do not go to this place--Its not about the animal--its about how much they can charge you. We took in a guinea pig that was in bad shape. My 11 year old daughter was in tears -- the front desk girls only interest was getting me to sign a contract allowing them to charge 350-450 dollars for treatment.
When we finally got to the doctor in charge--she gave at least the most honest answer and we were able to make a rational decision. The guinea pig was doomed--and so is this business.. Its not about the money--it should be about the animal and the person who loved that critter.

Westvet went above and beyond our expectations! W...

Westvet went above and beyond our expectations! We had to make a late night ER visit with our very sick 13 year old golden retriever. The staff was very kind and compassionate and professional. Dr. Fitzgerald was wonderful! She was compassionate, but gave us straightforward information. We didn't feel pressured at all and appreciate that they gave us the opportunity to make choices right for us. And we left with a bill much lower than I had expected. Unfortunately, it wasn't good news for us and our good boy went downhill quickly. We were faced with saying goodbye without as much time to plan as we had anticipated. While we didn't want to have our final moments in a vet hospital, that was the choice we had to make and now I'm glad it happened that way. Westvet gave us comfort and compassion we never expected. They took us quickly back to their comfort room, which was warm and homey. We were able to spend as much time as we needed saying goodbye to our beloved boy and he was so peaceful and relaxed at the end. We couldn't have asked for better care in such a difficult time and we truly appreciate everyone at Westvet!

The folks at West Vet were wonderful during my cat's urethral blockage. He was diagnosed and a catheter inserted surgically within two hours. They called when he came out of surgery, giving me enormous piece of mind. My only complaint was the requirement to pay up-front for a procedure that could run more than $1,600. That's a lot of money to expect an average person to have on hand.

I bought a puppy who had parvo and I didn't know it. 2 days after I got him we had to check him in and they brought him straight to isolation and let us see where he'd be staying. Every one of the staff members were friendly and the Vet was super nice when she broke the news to me and my wife. I will definitely be going back there if we have another emergency!

Wow. Let's start with them trying to bilk you for every dollar you have. Treating your pet is secondary to racking up every possible fee/procedure/medication. We brought a cat in with urinary blockage. The nice lady said it could cost $600 or $900 we can't be sure.... Then, through the powers of poor communication, failed to paint the picture of our cats diagnosis aka what we could do to actually help him. We ended up taking him to the humane society where people actually care about animals . Avoid this place if you can.
Cheers,
Matt

We had to bring our big pupper in after he injured himself playing in the yard. Even though there was a 4-6 hour wait, they took him back, gave him pain meds, and got him comfortable. We had to leave him overnight for a procedure but the doctor called us multiple times with updates about how he was doing and how the procedure went. We understand emergency vets are expensive, but when it was all said and done it was actually cheaper than we anticipated. Overall this is the best care my dog has received at a vets, and I'll recommend them to anyone.

Our lil pup was right on the edge of passing away. Every vet we went to could diagnose the issue but didn't know how to cure her of a terrible fungal infection. Dr. O'Neil at Westvet gave us a path forward, did her best to keep costs down, put our pup on the right medication and followed up with us multiple times over many months of intense medication and tests. Our pup is now happy as ever, running around playing with her brother and seems about as normal and happy as she's ever been! Without Dr. O'Neil and Westvet, it's unlikely she would be chewing contentedly on her rawhide right now. Her life was saved. Me and my family are so grateful.

We brought in our furbaby, after over an hour we were told that the reason she was sick was her diabetes. They wanted to give her fluids over night. We took her home after they gave her fluids and some nausea meds. WE took her to a different vet in the morning and they found a tumor within 20 minutes of having her there. Our poor baby was suffering through the night because of these people.

Thank you for your staff's compassion and understanding when I had to make the decision to let my best friend go. Nobody ever wants to have to make THAT decision, but the staff did not judge me because I couldn't afford the surgery my boy needed. They supported and consoled me the best anyone could in that moment.
They called less than a week after we let Titus go to let me know I could pick up his ashes, and had kind words of comfort for me when I arrived. His ashes were in a lovely wooden box, and they included a clay imprint of his paw and a tuft of his fur for me.
Today I also received a card in the mail signed by the staff. Thank you all so much for making Titus's journey to the bridge peaceful. I am ever so grateful.

Dr. Jeff Brourman has been our specialist vet for many years. He is extremely knowledgeable, skilled, and compassionate in the care of his patients. The current dog that he recently cared for is actually our third dog he has helped over the years. I am moved quite a distance away so for this visit I drove over 550 miles in order to have Dr. Brourman do the current surgery on Amica. She is recovering well and his concern in contacting me following the surgery, his call for a progress update was so helpful. When I mentioned a concern that I had he said to come right in and he would look at her. It turned out to be a normal part of healing at that stage but I was comforted and assured by understanding the exact process.
Amica is now doing well and is getting around and using her leg with confidence at just over two weeks after the surgery.
Although I did not have a long wait during my visits this time if I do wait I never mind doing so as I know we will be given the same careful consideration once it is our turn to be seen by the doctor.
I will continue to travel over 550 miles to bring Amica to this outstanding specialist clinic in Idaho if she should need specialist care in the future..

Took my dog here to have her shoulder and forearm assessed. The vet and his staff was extremely through. They checked my dogs total mobility; including walking her inside and outside to check her gait. The vet made a thorough recommendation for treatment. I was extremely pleased as compared to another vet I took my dog to who did very little in comparison.

I have never had a better experience in my life! After calling 7 clinics in the valley and no one having availability for atleast 5 days, I knew I needed to try WestVet. My Shih Tzu Delilah s right eye was swollen shut and had green goop surrounding it. I didn t know how bad it was but knew it was getting worse. When I pulled up to WestVet a very nice lady came out immediately. She assured me that she was going to take care of Delilah and that they were taking her case very seriously. Within 2 hours, they were able to extract a large piece of cheatgrass out of her eye, identify an ulcer, proscribe her meds and get her out to me. I am extremely happy with how they treated Delilah and myself throughout the whole process! I got there at 3:00 and left by 5:15! Very affordable as well. I am very pleased.

This review is actually more "fair" than "poor," but that wasn't a choice, and I can't really describe my experience at WestVet as "good."

First, the positive part: I believe that the staff and docs at WestVet are generally kind, well-meaning, and competent. I don't have a complaint against any particular person there. My complaint is against the business model and poor customer service.

Here was my recent experience -- I brought my dog in at 9:00 a.m. on a Sunday because she hadn't been eating or drinking for a few days and she seemed lethargic overall. Worrisome, but not critical. After a quick "vitals" check with a vet tech, I waited in the exam room for a full hour before the doc came in, with no explanation from her for the excessive wait. After a 10-15 minute exam, the doc diagnosed my dog as probably having gastroenteritis (a stomach bug), but suggested an x-ray to rule out an obstruction. I agreed. Better safe than sorry. The tech took my dog in the back room, and I was told there would be a short wait.

I then waited in the lobby for another 45 minutes before a different tech came out and said that it might be a little longer because there were a lot of dogs waiting for radiology, or something, and I could stay or go and wait for a call. I took the call option.

At 1:15 p.m. I called and inquired whether my dog was ready and was told that she was not. At 2:20 p.m., the vet called and said that the x-rays were fine and my dog was good to go.

When I went to pick up my dog, I was told that the bill was $40 more than the estimate. After some back and forth, I paid the original estimate but only after I had to forgo 4 pills (at $10/pill) to take home.

Wait time from beginning to end: over 6 hours.

Total Bill: $356.

At that price, I expected a little more responsive service. This was my third visit over the course of about 8 years, and the experience has been similar each time.

The business model seems to be to hire a number of vets out of school at a starter's salary, understaff the office on a busy day, order procedures and meds at a gigantic mark-up, thereby maximizing profit. (Eg. one $178 fee for an x-ray, and a second $25 fee to "read" the x-ray. $10 a pill, etc.). Sadly, not uncommon in the vet industry.

Bottom line: WestVet is probably a good choice if your animal is seriously injured or ill, especially if it is after hours, because they do have specialists and superior technology. Frankly, you don't have a whole lot of choice, as it's the only game in town. BUT be prepared to (1) pay through the nose and (2) wait for a really long time.

This past weekend, my wife had to take our German shorthaired pointer to WestVet after she was bitten by a snake in the foothills. The staff at WestVet came to the car to get our dog and were prompt, professional, and kind through all of her care. They were patient when we called for updates and always reassuring to us. It was a scary 24-28 hours being away from our pup and waiting to see how she handled the bite, but we knew she was getting great attention at WestVet. It would have been nice to have a better idea of when to expect phone call updates, we didn t want to be a bother to call to check in but also wanted to know how our dog was doing. Regardless, we understand the clinic is dealing with many urgent pets by nature and appreciate that the staff was always kind and patient when we did call. We are thankful for their responsiveness and care for our dog - who s now home resting with all kinds of good meds. Thanks, WestVet for taking great care of our girl!

After nearly dying of sepsis, high fever and pneumonia, my dog Tess was referred here from Idaho Falls for advanced diagnostics. While the cause was never found, Dr. O'Neill and the wonderful nurses took great care of Tess and when she was discharged few days later she continued to do well. One of the vet techs even texted me a photo, since during the Covid pandemic, owner visits are not allowed. Even though she was crazy busy, Dr. O'Neill was thorough, answered all my questions patiently, and pursued every avenue. I highly recommend this hospital.

Absolutely the worst and most traumatic experience...

Absolutely the worst and most traumatic experience I've been through in a long time. We had to have our 5 year old Yorkie put to sleep and they botched the procedure. The IV was not put in correctly so my poor dog yelped and cried when they began injecting the fluid. After several cries the vet decided something wasn't right and stopped. She realized the IV was not correct and decided my pup needed an new one. Then I had to hear my poor puppy cry and yelp more as they tried to install a second IV with no success. The vet finally decided it would be best to sedate my pup prior to inserting the IV, afterward everything went as it should've. Imagine being told your dog will die peacefully only to be subjected to watching him be put through pain prior to death - and then having to pay for the experience. What had to be going through his mind?

So amazing ! Dr Dalton and the staff were impeccable this afternoon when we brought our 13 year old border collie in with seizures . We had no idea what was wrong , and within an hour we had a diabetes diagnosis and ketoacidosis . His diagnosis was very critical and poor . They were able to stop his seizures ,and were able to let us see him, and also helped us make the tough decision to let him be at peace . My boy Ace is running again and chasing squirrels up in doggie heaven. Thanks so much Dr Dalton and WestVet for making this afternoon easier then it could have been.

They advised me to rush my dog in urgently based on her vomitting and diarrhea only to have us wait for nearly three hours then charged me 270 with no diagnosis. The next day i found a huge tick on my dog that i guess they missed during her "examination". Tick bites explained all her symptoms. If literally anywhere else is open and you need help for your pet take them there instead of to westvet! They are negligent, slow, and overpriced. Id give them 0 stars if i could.

We feel so blessed to have found him and given that our dog has congestive heart failure, we are grateful that we have access to an expert in this field right here in Idaho. We used to live in NYC and so we are familiar with all the top cardiologists there at the Animal Medical Center, and Dr. Arndt is just as amazing if not more so. Due to covid everything was curb service, but the staff was still so attentive and friendly. Thank you, Westvet!

Theyne had a horrible experience!!! Called ahead at 2am because we were driving 40 miles. I clearly explained our situation& directly asked if they could even do anything or if we should wait & go to our regular vet as many vets don't do dental procedures. They said they could help! Got there, waited almost 3 hours for them to say they couldn't do anything & to go to our regular vet. They supossively gave an antibiotic & pain shot. Then wanted to charge us $200 for seeing her, giving shots we DID NOT APPROVE of giving & sending us home with a couple days of pain meds until we could take her to our regular vet. We refused to pay it! It took three days of calling & trying to contact the owner/head office person to handle the situation, once we finally spoke to them they did make good on the situation. We had gone to them in the past and had great service but we will NOT GO BACK!!!

So my 400$ kitten has a miner surgery 5 weeks ago at bench Animal clinic. She comes home the next day and can't meow or make any sound . Hmmm so back to the vet we go days then weeks no changes still can't meow. The give her pain meds. Send me home. Call again on Monday 2-23-15. Telling them she is just not doing better. Ok will let's try laser therapy on her paws. Tuesday it's bad I call at 530 rush her up there not breathing very good her heart is pumping fast. They take an X-Ray nothing there. They kept her over nigh they move her to an oxygen tank and she now has fluid on her lungs . She need to go to westVet they have specialist that can help her better . I picked her up 2 o'clock driving her over to westvet she go's into a seizure. She is shaking .we get to westvet .I'm yelling help me someone finally grabs the cage and we go into a room this guy comes in say so what are we doing for the kitten? (Are you kidding me REALLY!!!) He says she is not very old and if she has a heart condition and we can save her ?We are looking at a lot of money and years of vet's and medicine bills for life. Ok I said how about we help her and save her life right now and then we talk about our options ? Ok he says. Out he go's . He is gone all of 15 seconds comes back . She is gone her heart gave out. So an office lady comes in . Are we taking her home or cremating her. I said how much is the bill ? she said $ 303 and if we cremate her and you want her ashes that's180. + the 303 . Why 303 ? We gave her 3 shots and the office visit. Office visit ? After the guy came in and said what are we doing for the kitten? Walks out comes right back and she was gone. Who did you give the shots to? And an office visit? Did she even make it out of her bed? Sad that people are ok with taking advantage of people in a desperate position.. I would never go back.I say stay away far away.

We took our dog in for ruptured abscess in July 2018. They gave us estimate for x-ray to find a cause, but wound up doing no x-ray as they looked over and cleared it out. They sent us home with some anabiotics and pain meds. Abscess returned in August, which they said may happen, suspected cheet grass. They cleaned it out again, more anabiotics and pain meds. It didn t repeat. Both visits were little over $400. Second visit was over pretty late, so they kept him overnight with no extra charge.

I'm so grateful Westvet was open when our pup suffered an allergic reaction from a bee sting. They acted very quickly to get him taken care of. All of the staff were very friendly, kind and professional. Thank you Westvet!

I had to bring my 17 year old cat in to be euthanized due to kidney failure. The staff was very professional and very nice. They explained things and were very empathetic. He went peacefully and the caring of staff and the Vet made a hard thing more tolerable.

I would not recommend this place for the following reasons:

1. My cat was in severe pain and couldn t walk due to an infected paw. Showed up at 430pm, wasn t seen by a doctor until 645pm.

2. They charged me $900 total to do blood work, sedation, sedation motoring, x-rays ($280), xray review ($53), bandage ($45, which looks like something you can buy at a drug store for $5), pain medication ($74 for two injections), and a variety of other charges. Not the mention $100 just for the walk-in emergency visit, which wasn t treated as an emergency due to not being treated until 2am. This is the type of wound that would only cost about $300 at a regular family vet (I m new to the area and didn t do my research, I learned my lesson)

3. When he was finally taken back by the vet at 6:45, they said he would be treated that night and I d be able to pick him up that evening unless the entire city of Boise walked in that night - the technicians words exactly. Midnight rolls around and I ve heard nothing, so I call to check in. They hadn t even seen him yet due to a large amount of other emergencies coming in. I call back at 2am - they JUST NOW started treating him. If I knew it was going to take that long I wouldn t have left him there, in a scary place - in a cage.

4. When we get home the next morning at 8am, my cat runs directly to the food & water bowl like he hasn t eaten in days. Which makes me believe they didn t supply him with food or water that entire time. NOT cool. If you re going to keep an animal that long.. feed it please. I understand you don t feed an animal before sedation but he was there long after the anesthesia wore off and should have been fed then.

Bottom line: don t go here. I made the mistake of not reading reviews or doing research and since my cat was in severe pain I took the risk of doing an emergency visit. If your animal can wait until morning, WAIT. This place only cares about money and will not communicate with you & you ll wait up all night with no updates.

The doctors are very caring but it seens that they choose to ignore the family vets records and actions performed. They push to force you to hospitalize your family members (pets) which stresses them out even more. The expense to diagnose is extremely high and the time it takes to get anything done is far too long. I get told they are too busy to answer more questions yet i see them wandering around chatting with people, granted they are assisting others. I get told what to do by unqualified staff members who can not answer straight forward questions.
My family vet is far more knowledgeable and makes time to talk with you and answer questions and more than half the price.
This taking advantage of pet owners financially is poor practice and I expect better cooperation and zero second guessing when it comes to my family members.
Now, with all that said, I do reapect the doctors there for the work they do and yes they are good. I still go there but only in an extreme emergency and only because my vet refers me if in serious need.
Thank you to all of them whom work hard at what they do there at West Vet. Please be more transparent and respect the primary doctors words and research and prior testing.
I will continue to to use you as source but would ask for more dedicated attention and to be very respectful of my suggestions and what i am telling you about the issues at hand.

Thank you for what you do.

So now what needs to be done is to address all of the comments which will prove compassion and care. I do respect yoir practice but more respect is earned by adressing all of the comments including those that are negative. This nakes yoi even more apreciated when you reach out to resolve situations.

Again, thank you for what you do and the care you give.

I have unfortunately had to take all four of my pets in for either emergencies or a specialty surgery. I have been very happy with the care that they had received. I am so thankful for this vet but wish they were closer to me.
