*EDIT: We were contacted by West Vet after this situation and felt they handled it professionally. They were extremely apologetic & and took steps to ensure this does not happen again. We are updating our review from 1 to 4 stars.
Original review:
We are extremely unimpressed with West Vet's unprofessionalism, negligence & complete lack of customer service. My hope in writing this review is that it will prevent others from having the same experience that we did. Two weeks ago we took our 1-year old puppy in on a Sunday night after he injured himself on a barb-wired fence. While he had several other small gashes around his legs, his biggest injury was a large gash on the front of his chest (pictures attached). This specific injury was the one that was pointed out to the hospital staff upon our arrival. He was finally discharged late at night, as he went under full general anesthesia for the procedures (as they stitched up several other small scrapes we hadn't even noticed prior to bringing him in). We didn't notice until morning that the largest gash on his chest appeared to have broken open again, as it was completely open and still bleeding. (Although our pup was wearing a cone and was in the crate all night, we assumed he must have been able to scratch the wound with his hind leg, causing it to re-open.) We took him into our normal vet (Northwest Animal Clinic) since it was during normal business hours. After examining our pup, our vet told us that it appeared the gash on his chest had never actually been repaired by West Vet in the first place. Our vet was shocked this was missed by them, since it took 15 stitches to close up the wound, not counting those needed under the surface of his skin (and costing us an additional $400+). We were in disbelief, as this wound was the main reason we took our pup to West Vet in the first place... especially since our $700+ bill from West Vet supposedly did not include the stitching of this massive injury. We immediately called West Vet to, at the very least, inform their team of this mistake, but to also ask that they help refute some of the additional costs it took to repair the injury that should have initially been repaired by them while our dog was in their care. We spoke to a supervisor who apologized and while she did not have an explanation as to how the injury was missed, she told us they would not be able to help cover any portion of the costs we accrued to get it fixed. We asked to speak with the hospital manager and have still not yet received a phone call back. We feel that to miss an injury this size while our dog was fully under general anesthesia, causing him to go another 24 hours with this deep, open-bleeding wound, is complete negligence. I'm wondering what else was possibly missed on our dog and many others. It's very unfortunate that they are one of the only 24-hour emergency vet options in the Treasure Valley! I do not feel comfortable leaving my dog in their care again. I'm considering calling the Idaho Board of Veterinary Medicine, as I feel there needs to be some accountability, as well as more oversight of their vet team.
