Our Metallurgical Coal Business Unit operates five mines in British Columbia's Elk Valley region: Fording River Operations (FRO), Elkview Operations (EVO), Line Creek Operations (LCO), Greenhills Operation (GHO) & Coal Mountain Operation(CMO). These mines produce high-quality metallurgical coal used for steelmaking around the world.
Greenhills Operation(GHO) is located approximately eight kilometres northeast of Elkford in southeastern British Columbia.The mine produces high-quality steelmaking coal which is exported worldwide via ports on Canada's west coast.The mine began production in 1983 with an initial capacity of 2 million tonnes per year which was later expanded multiple times.Currently it has an annual production capacity of approximately 5 million tonnes per year.
We use state-of-the-art technology at GHO mine site including autonomous haul trucks which improve efficiency while reducing emissions.We also use water treatment facilities that allow us to recycle water used during mining operations.This helps us minimize water usage while protecting local water sources from contamination.
In addition,GHO operation provides employment opportunities for over 1,000 people directly or indirectly through contractors.We prioritize hiring locally whenever possible,and invest heavily in employee training programs so that workers can develop new skills throughout their careers.
