Fabulous food (but far from low budget), great service, well kept beer. Very much a (good) upmarket gastropub.

Lunch after lockdown ended on a Saturday. Excellent food and service.
One of the best pubs in Hampstead. Great environment with good selection of food and drink in a cosy atmosphere
Whiskey expensive but its Hampstead after all. Nice place though..
great pub and food. service is great. the staff have not become the covid Gestapo like at some other venues.
Deliberately chosen as the site for my Bar Mitzvah party as well as the end-of-GCSE's celebration, this place is amazing, especially if you're going for a stroll to the Heath afterwards.
We botb had a Beautiful salad here the other day. Highly recommend.
The best food in Hampstead. We had Chateaubriand. Superb!
We just came home from a lovely dog friendly dinner here. The roasted red peppers are delicious and the apple and rhubarb crumble was enormous. Plus they make an excellent martinis. What s not to like?
Great place to have a few drinks on the terrasse on a sunny afternoon. Lunch food is ok but not amazing. Staff is friendly and helpful. Overall a good experience.
We had a delicious meal here! My husband has been talking about the sausages and mashed potatoes here since the last time he was in London 7 years ago, so we went back and they really are as good as he said!
It is over priced but the food is good and the coffee is great. It has a nice ambience too.
Food consistently good. Can reserve upstairs not downstairs but - Doggy food and water also available and same human ('modern British') food as at reservable tables. Occasional interesting local artistic/musical celebrities.
nice find! good atmosphere and good food. with interesting menu for a neighbourhood pub. defo recommend though not cheap
The Wells is a pub, but includes a really classy restaurant, which is where we ate. Prices aren't cheap, but you get what you pay for. We were on the first floor (I think you can eat downstairs too) and it was excellent. Tables not crammed together so it's not noisy like many restaurants nowadays. Food was top class - great quality and presentation, and *so* tasty. And the waiters were smart and amazingly knowledgeable about the menu, and could answer any question we threw at them. The only slight negative was that both the starter and main course took a while longer to come out than we would have liked, but perhaps they were short staffed last night. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, and give 5 stars. It's one of the best restaurants I've been to for a while.
Great ambience, good atmosphere, child friendly. No reservations but people were queuing before open... Great place especially on a sunny day
Fantastic pub with upmarket food (and prices to match); be aware that finding a free table to sit is very difficult, a very popular place
Good food and good service. The atmosphere is very welcoming. Would definitely recommend.
Love this place, ambience is nice & relaxed, chilled, country pub style hidden in the Hampstead lanes.
Nice food, nice staff. Pub used by its locals which gives it a nice atmosphere.
Great location for a pub and dog friendly too, which pleases the wife mightily. Overall friendly staff and an average selection of beers. Great place to sit outside on a warm, sunny day and watch the people walk past. We went for a Sunday More
Hands down our favourite pub in Hampstead. The staff are incredibly friendly. Tasty food. Okay drink selection. Packed on Sundays and during warm weather.
Best pub in Hampstead. The food is always good, the service is friendly and the atmosphere has a warm buzz. Plus, they love dogs. They even have a doggy menu and snacks for our furry friends! Word to the wise, reserve if your going for lunch on the weekend!
Went here for a meal after a leisurely walk on the Heath with our friends. We were made to feel quite unwelcome and then enjoyed very rude service during our 3 course meal. They didn't even say thank you when we paid our bill or left, which I find astounding and incredibly rude. It's the first time I have ever felt like I wasn't good enough to eat anywhere. Will avoid this place in future unless I want a side order of snobbery with my dinner.
The Wells is one of our locals. We love to go there. Good vibes, cosy, friendly, lots of dogs around and located in the very quaint part of Hampstead. Don't tell anybody, we want to keep it to ourselves ;-)
Really good Sunday roast, but packed! Nice desserts as well, good service and lovely atmosphere
Without a bad surprise. Well. Special mention for mature beef 28 days
Absolutely loved our lunch here yesterday. Popped in with our big dog after a long walk through the muddy woods on a dreadful day. The dog was tired and not groomed enough at the moment to be anywhere in public obviously, yet we were welcomed by the very friendly and accommodating team. This is not just a usual formal dogs allowed place, but it s a place where you feel welcome with your dog, big or small, as well other (less important) family members. The food was excellent. I had the chicken supreme and I realised that the dish had exactly the perfect combination of ingredients on it. We also had chicken pate and a choice of fresh delightful breads, a salad, a soup, beer and a tea. Everything was fresh and brought in time. The servers were very friendly and provided the doggie with water and treats. The atmosphere was so cosy, we didn t really want to leave. Very warm and friendly people throughout. Excellent for families or for small groups as well. Definitely a new favourite.
Amazing food, and lovely environment with dogs welcome and food for them available Service can be quite slow when busy, but very worth it.
Great venue but like others, straining at the seams to work within COVID rules... But doing a great job. Very nice property, very nice location. Highly recommend.
Lovely and quaint pub just outside the centre of Hampstead Village well worth a visit if you're in the neighbourhood. The dining room upstairs is perfect for a more intimate dinner.
Lovely food in a popular Hampstead establishment. Thought we'd try here as it was one of the recommended places to eat locally. Good menu choices, which appear to change daily, as menu was dated with today's date. Started with bavette steak and duck leg confit. Cooked just right and well presented. Followed up with passion fruit pavlova and chocolate fondant. Topped off with some cider and a glass of red wine. Buzzing atmosphere, restaurant fully booked and bar area full, so lots of people can't be wrong! Only missed out on the 5th star as an 'optional' 12.5% service charge was added automatically to the bill. We would prefer to tip as we wish rather than have it added automatically. Other than that, no complaints :-)
This place is very much a gastropub. The food is excellent though definitely at one of the highest prices in the area. Drink range isn't great but is at least at a more sensible price. Only a small corner by the TV is not seating for diners. The WC is far better than any other pub in the area.
Bar service is super slow and the staff often seem quite stressed. I've experienced a few times when one person is serving different people at the same time etc while others chatting round the other end of the bar which doesn't seem fair. Otherwise prices are reasonable and food is good.
Not impressed with the quality of the food. We ordered the lamb roast on a busy Sunday. It came without Yorkshire pudding. They told us that the lamb roast didn't include it and that they would check if there was any left. It came More
Superb restaurant: the food, service, decor location and TOTALLY DOG friendly too
Modern European gastropub in Georgian house with upstairs dining rooms and spacious downstairs bar.
Slightly old fashioned upstairs, food seemed overpriced even for Hampstead
Serves a 5 star Sunday Lunch! - but you have to book. Has a relaxed bar downstairs, which serves food and is full of families with young children at the weekend. If you book, you go upstairs to an attractive muddle of elegant, comfortable, relaxed rooms manned by friendly, helpful staff. The Sunday roast is meltingly tender. Many types of beverages are available, including totally yummy alcohol-free cocktails. Go and enjoy!
Visited here with friends for a group lunch. The place gets busy so book ahead to guarantee a table. The food was lovely, drinks list extensive and dessert was spot on. Highly recommended, though a little on the more expensive side.
An adorable pub near the Heath with indoor and outdoor seating.
After a long walk on the Heath on a sunnier than usual afternoon we fancied a Beavertown Neckoil to slake the thirst while we studied the menu. This was our first meal out and visit to the Wells since lockdown and we were not disappointed. To start we had a salad of Granny Smith with blue cheese, rocket, endive and walnuts; and smoked salmon with rosti and spinach topped with a poached egg. For mains we had the duck confit with pureed swede, spinach and dauphinoise potatoes. To accompany our meal we drank a bottle of French merlot. We enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. The staff were attentive and friendly. In terms of safety it is reassuring that there is a one way system, hand sanitiser, tables are well spaced and contact details are taken in case someone is diagnosed with covid-19
Perfect hampstead pub for your cold winter nights. When the sun is out, you can sit outside and bath in the rays. Mulled wine served here are delicious! Came here for lunch and had the confit duck, which was divine! Highly recommend this place for food and drinks! Come early as this place is popular!
Nice location in the residential heart of Hampstead Village. Friendly atmosphere. Used by the locals. Good food. Reasonable menu selection. A few outside tables available. A short walk from Hampstead Heath.
Nice pub and restaurant. The food was good and tasty. The service was good and was busy for a Monday night.
They do allow dogs and one was barking really loudly in a small area. That is not the pubs fault but did make conversations hard.
Would recommend this place.
Cool gentleman with long hair serving us - a real professional
Beautiful pub in a picturesque neighborhood half way between the centre of Hampstead village and Hampstead Heath. Great food and decent ales, this is a perennial favourite of ours: we've been coming back here with our kids for Sunday lunch for years, despite now living the other side of North London.
Characterful pub steeped with history. We had a nice Sunday lunch after a walk around the heath. Very attentive staff. Yorkshire puddings were scrumptious! Hope to return soon. A little cramped inside.
Lovely food. Nice venue. Relatively expensive, no cheap dishes (otherwise would be 5 star). Would recommend arriving after 8 if going by car, due to local parking restrictions.
Lovely pub with great food (although over priced). Nice to place to sit outside in summer.
Great service and food. And doggy friendly...what more can one ask. We will be back
Comfortable, good cuisine.
The places are very beautiful.
Fabulous food. Delicioud Sunday Roasts. Fabulous location.
Really pleasantly surprised and delighted with the find
We were recommended to try The Wells and really pleased we did
The upstairs restaurant is like eating in someone s home with a nice atmosphere but quiet enough to hold a conversation (the gf pub was noise)
The service was excellent and the food even better
All choices were lovely
I d recommend the chicken liver parfait stater-delicious and the chateaubriand was as good as we ve had
No complaints at all
Highly recommended!
The Wells is a lovely pub with a super restaurant above, where table reservations are probably obligatory at busy times. We visited twice on a Friday evening and it was full to bursting. Service is really good, food is pub fare plus, we had steaks and amazing five star desserts. Up some steep stairs but plenty of less mobile folk considered it was worth the effort to climb them!
Love this place. Great area, nice ambience and fab food.
A lovely and famous pub. But I hadn't realised how good the food would be. The portions, especially the starters were large as well as delicious. Staff friendly and efficient. Very good evening.
Good food..If you re going to tack on 12.5% service charge can you act less indignant when I order? Smile & manners absent from most staff including the bald manager
One of the best pubs in hampstead. Great atmosphere and excellent food.
Went for sunday lunch. Food was excellent as was the service. Will be back very soon as this is the best Sunday lunch around.
Beautiful location good beer but not so sure on the food...... looks good but definitely not my favourite meal!
