Downstairs from the larger theatre, the underground is a neighborhood gem with a capacity of roughly 400 and a full bar. We drove 2 hrs. from New Hampshire to see Born of Osiris on a Sunday night. It was well worth the trip. 5 dollar parking and no line at the door. The staff was friendly as well. I'll be back Hartford next time there is some good metal coming to town!

Horrible, we showed up early for a VIP event and after driving in circles for 30 minuets waiting for the parking lot to open. Finally we call and are told that the gate is opening in a few minutes. We head back over and the gate was open but blocked by a black truck waving us away so we circle again. We get back and the gates are closed again. We ended up not even going to the event because they state on the website not to park on any of the side streets and we weren't walking over a mile from a parking garage when they have parking it's just not open in time for the event.

The bathrooms were entirely unkempt and if the main hall was better kept, I bet shows would do more for decorating/using props to involve the crowd.. That might very well contribute to more people choosing the Webster for their show destination. Which in turn might give the Webster a reason to unpack the third bar..take the storage out of their.. The show itself was absolutely INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!! But they aren't the Webster, unfortunately. And the Webster doing better would contribute to the bands doing better..

I attended an EDM show last week here. I drove an hour and a half to get here, then waited in the hour long will call line to get my ticket. They venue' s box office was extremely understaffed. I missed both the openers, but that was okay, that's not who I came to see.

I finally made it inside. The venue's tiny access hallway was crammed with lines of people waiting for the bathroom. A police officer who was working a detail at the event was laughing histarically with one of the staff members about how "some girls are having a really bad time in there". People were shouting that there was no toilet paper and all the toilets were clogged. After forcing my way into the main event space, I decided it was time for a drink.

I entered the bar area and was taken back by the line. Out of the 5 bars the venue had, only one was open, and to make matters worse, there was one single bartender frantically trying to take care of everyone. I waited 45 minutes in line trying to get a beer, making conversation with the people around me who were also amazed at how dysfunctional the venue was operating. The poor girl working had given up on giving correct change, she was just trying to get everyone their drinks. She looked like she was seconds away from quitting. Many irate patrons were giving her a hard time.

I finally got my beer. The main act was about to come on, and it seemed like things were finally getting better. I began to back away from the huge crowd of people trying to get a drink, when my drink, which I had taken one sip of, was ripped out of my hand. I turned around to a security guard shining a flashlight in my face.

"Where's your wristband?" He said. I didn't know I needed a wrist band. I was let into the bar area without one and I was served without one. I said "excuse me? I didnt know I needed one, I'm sorry". The security guard laughed and said "you didn't know you had to be 21 to drink? Do you even have an ID?" I promptly produced a valid ID and apologized again. He seemed bummed out that I was in fact old enough to have a beer. I then asked him where I could get a wristband. He told me I couldn't. Confused, I asked him why.

He proceeded to yell "don't get smart with me kid", grabbed me by the wrist, twisted my arm behind my back, and violently escort me out of the venue. I was screaming, it hurt, bad. I was laughed at by the crowd, staff members and police officer as I was dumped on the side of the road in front of the venue. I was polite and passive with him throughout the entire altercation. I wasn't even drunk yet!

One of the first things they teach you in security and law enforcement is de-escalation. This guy did quite the opposite.

I began to drive myself home but my arm hurt so much I ended up going straight to an urgent care center. They did xrays and told me it wasn't broken but it "didn't look good". Now I have a large medical bill on the way to my house.

I reached out to the venue in hopes to discuss what had happened and see if they could make it right. They blatently saw and ignored my message. When I called, i was put on an indefinite hold.

Needless to say I will never, ever be returning here. Since the venue failed to get back to me, I have spoken with my lawyer who has started the process. I'm not paying medical bills for being assaulted by a police academy flunk out.

"Ftdk4 nahvfl"
This is what I accidentally pocket texted after a great show lol. Venue gets 4 stars. The heat was suffocating but the service(bartender) was giving out free, much needed water which was unexpected but appreciated.

Iconic spot for live music in Hartford. It is an intimate venue that has been offering the solid shows with local and global talet with all in between. My most recent visit was Redman and Method man and all the groups slayed. The bar situation could be improved. The staff is absolutely helpful. Nice time out.

The underground is so much fun. Really intimate setting - really small, like one of the smaller venues I've been to, but if you're genuinely excited about the band playing it makes it all the more enjoyable. Relatively easy to get to as well if you're coming from far away. Never been to the theater so I can't speak to the quality of that side of the building, but the underground is lots of fun :)

Always too hot feels like it's a large concrete hot box rarely does the artist actually get the music tuned correctly and everything reverberates off the concrete making it difficult to understand or hear

Blue October played here and it had to be the best concert I've seen. Venue was standing room only which made it even better, no matter where you are, the stage was within 10 feet!! Amazing!!!!

This joint is rough. Badly needs some kind of upgrade, or just a good cleaning. The urinal literally held together with tape. The Underground is small and laid out oddly. The sound isn't awful, but it is limiting, so bands will not have the full, rich, sound you're used to. Reminds me of a bunch of holes in the wall I visited as a teenager, but those all closed. For good reason.

Great venue. Wonderful nice staff. Small enough that it is a very personal experience to see a show there. Neighborhood is shaky, but everything else is just fantastic (eat before you go). Highly recommended!!!!

Concert was awesome but could have been even better but with a full house maybe u should have the ac working or more fans. It was so hot in there ita surprising no one past out. Then with the 2 bars open they only had 2 servers at on one side and 1 server on the other and u couldnt figure out where the lines were. So disorganized

Typical dive bar/musical venue. Standing room only and relatively intimate place to see a show. Never really ever that far from the stage. Just don't park in the wrong lot up here as cars get towed.

Park in the lot or just dont go, its not worth the trouble. My car was stolen after we got out of the show and apparently thats the norm there. The place was also not well kept. The only thing good about it was we were a few feet from the artist.

The sound isn't the best, but it gets the job done. The staff here are always professional and friendly. From the door staff to bartenders, to security at the floor and stage -- I was very impressed with the professionalism. They try to be fair, even to people that are out of control. I saw the manager running around checking on his staff as well. Keep up the good work.

Webster is a former movie palace built in the late 1920s. The architecture features some cool Art-deco elements only found in buildings of that era. In about 2000 former owners renovated (current owners are to be renovating again soon!). Some interior walls were brought down and the Webster was expanded to incorporate the former police substation room and next-door bar. Currently, the venue hosts larger concerts (capacity of 1200ish) in the theater and smaller shows (300) in the adjacent barspace called 'Underground'. Mostly standing room only, The theater has decent sightlines; provided by a ramped floor and 2 tiers with 2 bars in the rear right & left. The Underground performance area and bar is split by an arched wall - it gives a bit of respite but provides for almost no visual of the stage from the bar. Security & staff is friendly inside & there is a parking area in back of the building. Street parking is an option but beware if you have stuff / valuables in sight! I've been going to shows at Webster for about 20 years & never had a bad time!

Went to see Steel Panther 7/27/19
$20 for parking in the main lot
Seemed extraordinarily hot inside
Sound was adequate
Panther had mic problems and only played for an hour (over at 10:38)...not sure if they cut it short or if that's normal curfew for the venue.
Overall if there aren't any better stops on the tour then this is adequate but that's about it.

Its an old theater, but whoever does sound here does an amazing job! Drinks r like any other place like this they r expensive. My favorite part of the webster is they have re-entry! U can go outside and smoke whenever u want! Unlike the palladium.

Legit worst venue. Unless your comfortable in sketchy areas and enjoy the fact that paid parking is limited to 100 cars and $20, then go right ahead. The management who chose to address our concerns wasn't helpful at all. In fact, it was clear that he couldn't care less. We will most definitely not purchase tickets for a concert at this venue ever again. With $20 a pop for parking and pan handlers everywhere , they couldn't manage a refund for tickets ... In which advertised for $20 ended up being $60 ! Disgusting.

The no re-entry policy is ridiculous... we went in to see what bands were playing before the main band. The intent was to go have dinner and then come back in... however we were told we would need to purchase a new ticket...
In top of it the food sucks... frozen pizza old popcorn hot dogs or pretzel were the choices
The venue is just ok have been in better Ones

Looks can definitely be deceiving for someone who s never been here, lol. Arrived early so I knew where it was before getting food before the show to see Blue October 10/30/19. I though we were at the wrong place at first because during the day, and not being familiar with the place, I honestly thought it was an abandoned building from the outside. But we came back around when the doors were opening and there were a lot of people. Inside was big enough for a large crowd, but small enough to make it a more memorable experience. And the sound in the building was awesome. Overall a great experience and would come here again. I traveled 3 1/2 from VT for the show, it was worth it.

(05/15/2013) Its an amazing place for concerts I've been to three Rock Concerts and a Foam Party/Rave and had a blast each time I went!. The neighborhood IS NOT BAD!!!! People who arnt from Hartford doesn't know what their talking about I live 2 blocks away on Broad St. And even when there's no concert do I hear of violence in the area PLUS there is always a Police officer stationed at the venue just in case. I never had the food there so I can speak on that but the alcohol Drinks I'm sure where they make their money lol. its pretty expensive for some jagerBombs or long island ice tees but hey its for a even better time so I can't complain!. The place was relativly clean when iv been there and the main stage holds A LOT of people which is good. One thing I don't like is the fact that they have signs that say "NO: moshing, crowd surfing and something else but when in reality they DONT CARE if you do those things yet they scare people with those signs!. But yeah over all I Love the venue its close to my house and some Big names pass thru there and they give a chance for some Local bands as well in the second smaller stage I believe called the Webster Underground. So yeah. Go to it!...

I have been to the webster a bunch of times. I love it. They get really popular bands to play here but also are a good venue for small local bands. The place is pretty big but also intimate. I saw Mudvayne and KMFDM here and its so cool how close you are to the stage.
I've been to tons of concerts all over the country and this is my fav place.

The Ct crowd sucks though... y'all are boring. Everyone acts like they are too good for the webster but I think the webster is too good for this crappy city full of ingrates.

In 1950, the theater was sold to Loew's Theaters Inc., which operated it until it closed down in 1975 due to declining attendance. After remaining vacant for several years, it was purchased by Donald L. Wilson who transformed it into a live music venue in 1980.
