So glad we went. My 9 year old considers Walt Disney her hero & role model and has been asking to go to the museum for several months. The museum exceeded out expectations! Much bigger than we expected. So many displays and so much information. The employees were very nice! Visiting the gift shop and cafe were a sweet way to end the trip. We also went on a Sunday afternoon during the Presidio Picnic which is on the front, shared lawn of the musuem (and happens every Sunday).

A must see for any Disney fan, the WDFM has a treasure trove of artifacts from the early Walt days all the way up to the creation of Disneyland. I can gaze for hours at the massive and detailed Disneyland scale model.

San Francisco is very famous, but there are a few places where people don't go unexpectedly. The Walt Disney Family Museum is one such place.

It is a place where you can see Walt Disney's birth and early history as the Mickey Mouse father and Disney's founding kingdom. In a way, it's Disney's history, but I thought it might be a bit boring before I was worried. First of all, it was a recommended place for people around me.

Just take some time and relax. With its location in Presidio, there are plenty of places to explore nearby and on weekends the food trucks are crowded and it is quite good. Near the Disney Family Museum is the ILM (Industrial Light & Magic), famous for Star Wars, and the Yoda Fountain in front of it attracts people. However, since this is an office or a company for those who are actually working, there is no tour program.

The Disney Family Museum is usually run by two exhibition halls. The first exhibition hall is a permanent exhibition hall and is called the Disney Museum. Photographing is also permitted (no flash). The second exhibition hall is a special pavilion, which is strictly forbidden. Now, there are materials that were used in Pinocchio's feature-length animation.

The Permanent Pavilion has a lot of things to see, so if you didn't know how to go there, the Special Pavilion mainly displays cell images and materials used in actual animations, so the amount is shorter than the Permanent Hall. In my opinion, it is not necessary to look around the exhibition. But there are animation screens that day, so if you plan to watch together, it's a good idea to watch them together.
(In the past, Disney animation is a lot boring.)

We were there for hours mesmerized by the exhibits and had to reluctantly leave at closing before experiencing all of them. The animation process from Walt's days drawing his prototype for Mickey Mouse to the explosive growth of an entertainment company Disneyland takes more than one visit to complete.

Wonderful place full of history and interesting artifacts. Great location with a view of the bridge. Hope to visit again some day.
My only minor point is that the first part of the exhibit was so noisy it was hard to read or hear the part I was trying to concentrate on. There was an extremely loud guide taking 2 guests through and was talking them through all the exhibits and his voice was incredibly loud and distracting! He obviously knew his stuff though! But on a whole the staff seemed very friendly and pleasant.

Cool history of the founder of Disney. Some cool stuff about the movies, animation history, but with a focus on the individual, Walt Disney. Good visit for those that want a deeper understanding of the man behind the cartoons. Didn't see any films, so can't comment on that.

So many artifacts and history! The museum goes on and on. It's the most comprehensive museum I've been to. I really enjoyed it. It's not a place for toddlers but older kids would enjoy it. There's a station where they can learn to draw Mickey but it's more about the history of Disney and then of each master piece. Lots to see!

It was really windy so it was hard to take pictures...but it was super beautiful. We went during the day time so it was kind of a bummer that the lights weren't on. Next time we got, we are definitely coming during the next time. We wanted to stand on the lights but the security officer said no...

Great place for Disney fans to learn a little more. Special exhibits are always great and worth the extra ticket to go explore.

Open green in the front of the museum is a great place to have a picnic and let the little ones run around.

Parking is ample.

This place told the entire life story of Walt Disney along with some of his awards and models of his world famous parks. The one thing that truly blew me away was the view right next to the building. I did not edit this photo and I took it on your average Joe phone but it looks spectacular. I would go back for the view!

Great museum covering the bulk of Walt's life and career. I would recommend that this is most enjoyable for kids over 6 and kids at heart. It was very interesting to understand his story and the many works that brought Disney into existence. I would recommend a visit on Sundays. Off the Grid is very fun and the green space is filled with people.

This museum is a hidden gem. It portrays the history of the founding and success of the Walt Disney Corporation in phenomenal detail and with some amazing artifacts. The volunteers at the museum are also impressive with there knowledge and helpfulness. I will say that this is much more of a museum for adults than kids.

If you're at all a fan of Disney (parks/movies etc..) this is well worth a visit. We took our kids whom enjoyed it, but made us go through a bit faster than I would have wanted. It was still 2-3 hours well spent.

This is a well designed museum. Aside from the obvious focus and detail on Walt Disney and the family, it is an amazing collection of information, visual memories and artefacts for animation and tech nerds of all ages. I have been here several times and every time there is something new that I notice. Highly recommended!

So wonderful!

So wonderful!
This museum has been on my list for ever, and I am so glad we finally got to visit. The entire display is overwhelming and so inspiring. We spent hours walking through the museum and we still didn't get to read/take it all in. Seeing all of Walt's oscars was so amazing, and going into the rich history of Mickey & Oswald made me smile. He was an incredible man and this homage to him is just wonderful. I can't wait to go back!

Great museum. Fairly expensive but worth it if you're a Disney fan. From the outside it looks like a fairly small building but it's actually larger than you'd expect so it's good value for money.

This was interesting and fun. A bit pricey, but I learned a lot about who Walt Disney was. We also visited their special Pinocchio exhibit while we were there. The Cafe inside was pricey but delicious as well.

I would visit this museum at the end of your stay, when you don't have anything else to do and you have visited all the good spots in San Francisco.

The "Nine old men" was a little boring and quite repetitive. The rest of the exhibit (about W. Disney) can be done in 30 minutes and is more interesting.

The museum is in a very nice place and the view of the Golden Gate is stunning!

Worth the visit - we spent almost 4 hours there - fantastic layout and displays - you basically follow Walt's lifetime and innovations. Plus, there are a few tech geegaws like cameras, film printers, and animation rigs that are amazing.

About WDFM

WDFM: The Ultimate Destination for Disney Fans

If you're a fan of Walt Disney and his creations, then the Walt Disney Family Museum (WDFM) is a must-visit destination. Located in the Presidio of San Francisco, part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, WDFM is an American museum that showcases the life and legacy of Walt Disney.

The museum was founded by Diane Disney Miller, Walt's daughter, in 2009. Her vision was to create a place where people could learn about her father's life and work in an interactive and engaging way. Today, WDFM is one of the most popular museums in San Francisco, attracting visitors from all over the world.

What You'll Find at WDFM

Walt Disney was one of the most influential figures in American entertainment history. He created some of the most beloved characters and stories that continue to captivate audiences today. At WDFM, you'll get an up-close look at his life story through exhibits that showcase his early years as an animator to his later years as a film producer.

One of the highlights of WDFM is its collection of artifacts related to Walt's life and work. You'll see original drawings from some of his earliest cartoons like Steamboat Willie (1928), which introduced Mickey Mouse to audiences for the first time. There are also props from some classic films like Mary Poppins (1964) and Sleeping Beauty (1959).

In addition to these artifacts, there are also interactive exhibits that allow visitors to experience what it was like working on a film set or creating their own animation using modern technology.

Why Visit WDFM?

There are many reasons why you should visit WDFM if you're a fan of Walt Disney or just interested in learning more about American entertainment history:

1) Learn About One Of America's Most Influential Figures: As mentioned earlier, Walt Disney had a profound impact on American culture through his creations such as Mickey Mouse and Disneyland theme park among others.

2) Experience Interactive Exhibits: Unlike other museums where visitors can only look at exhibits behind glass cases or ropes; here they can interact with them too! Visitors can try their hand at animating characters or even step into recreated sets from classic films!

3) Enjoy A Unique Location: The Presidio area offers stunning views overlooking San Francisco Bay while being surrounded by nature trails perfect for hiking enthusiasts!

4) Perfect For All Ages: Whether young or old; everyone will find something interesting here! From children who love animated movies & cartoons; adults who appreciate art & history; seniors who want memories refreshed - there’s something for everyone!

5) Great Value For Money: With affordable admission prices compared with other attractions around town - this museum offers great value-for-money experience!

Conclusion

In conclusion,Walt Disney Family Museum is not just another tourist attraction but rather it’s an immersive experience into one man’s creative genius which has shaped our childhoods forever! It’s definitely worth visiting if you’re ever in San Francisco area whether alone or with family/friends because it provides insights into how creativity works while providing fun activities too!
