When you go with a firm, you're counting on the firm's reputation. However, firms lend their reputation to inexperienced, inept agents so they have a place to start.

My wife and I had a horrible experience with Long and Foster in Blacksburg (by the hospital), where we had submitted an offer to a divorced/ing couple who flat refused to respond to anything. The agent at L&F balked at getting anyone else involved (his boss, or the seller, or the seller's boss), so it took over a month to get our $1k deposit back.

When we left L&F, we did what we should have done to begin with - look for a small realtor! Wainwright and Co. is a father/daughter company with maybe one or two other agents, and they stay in business on their own reputation.

We worked with Ashley Wainwright Donahue, and it was awesome. She's been in the area all her life, and can tell you histories about the neighborhoods, schools, restaurants, and more.

It was nothing like the experience I had with L&F. With them, people would trip over themselves trying to greet you when you went through the door, but rides to/from properties would be silent, or the agent on his/her phone talking to someone else the entire time.

Ashley's very personable, a Redditor, and awesome to ride with. When you're not talking about neighborhoods and attractions, she can give you recipes, ideas for birthday parties for kids (sometimes there's even a toy or two to play with in the car), and much more.

It was a fantastic experience, couldn't recommend highly enough, have and will again recommend to all my friends, and we'll go with again after we have kids and need a bigger house!

We couldn't have went with a better Real Estate company for our relocation to Virginia!
Mark Nichols was great not just a realtor, but has become a friend!
He's a good ole boy that goes over and beyond for you!
We will be using Wainwright realtors for all our real estate needs in the future!

This is my first and last time ever reaching out t...

This is my first and last time ever reaching out to this company. Here s why:

I reached out to them directly because I moved to the area and am looking for a home with a flexible 300k budget. I talked to a person named Hunter and he said he will get me setup with their alerting software.

I signed up and it never sent me the email alerts and it took weeks before Hunter reached back out to see if I was still interested. He did not bring any homes to my attention and blamed me for the software not working.

I ve been working in IT for many years and have never had issues with technology on my end especially with one that just sends an email based off of filtered results.

I requested him to call me since I found a house on my own from a completely different site that I wanted to visit over the weekend. He said he would call me in the afternoon and didn t call or even send a message to change dates to call. It is literally his business to call and communicate with clients and he fails at that.

I reached out to him the following day to tell him he s just lost a client and I don t want to work with him and he proceeds to get rude through messages.

I will never work with this company again and I surely will not be recommending the company to anyone. I don t know if it s because I m a minority, new to the area, or some other reason completely that isn t as apparent as me being a minority for him not to help me. If your job is to help new people wanting to buy homes in the area to get a home then you should at least be courteous and do your due diligence to help them through the process.
