Vision House is a non-profit organization that provides temporary housing and services for families experiencing homelessness in King County, Washington State. The organization was founded in 1990 by John and Susan Camerer with the aim of helping homeless families get back on their feet by providing them with safe and stable housing, as well as support services to help them overcome the challenges they face.
The Vision House program is designed to provide a comprehensive range of services to help families transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency. The program includes transitional housing, case management, life skills training, employment assistance, financial education, counseling services, and more. All of these services are provided free of charge to eligible families.
One of the key features of Vision House's program is its focus on children. The organization recognizes that children who experience homelessness are at risk for a range of negative outcomes including poor health outcomes, developmental delays, academic struggles and social isolation. To address these risks Vision House provides specialized programs for children including tutoring programs and after-school activities.
Vision House operates several transitional housing facilities throughout King County which can accommodate up to 100 individuals at any given time. Each facility offers private bedrooms for each family member as well as shared living spaces such as kitchens and living rooms.
In addition to its transitional housing facilities Vision House also operates a number of permanent supportive housing units which provide long-term affordable housing options for low-income families who have successfully completed the transitional program but still require ongoing support.
The success rate of Vision House's program is impressive with over 80% percent of participants successfully transitioning out of homelessness into permanent stable homes within two years. This success rate is due in large part to the comprehensive range of support services offered by the organization which helps participants address not only their immediate needs but also build skills necessary for long-term stability.
