I went here for the first time ever kayaking. I had a friend with me who has done it before but it was pretty easy. Everyone was friendly. It was very convenient. The time you show up is the time you literally hop on the shuttle to get carted off to the river which is very chill and lazy. I had an awesome time! Keep it up, VC&K! I will be returning ALOT!

My wife and I ended up renting kayaks twice while on our vacation to Smuggs. If you are staying at Smuggs, don't book through the activity desk but rather call them directly. The staff was super friendly and fun. The kayak rental is for the day and you can get a 1 1/2, 2 or 3 hour drop off. Since the rental is for the day, you can feel free to stop off and eat lunch on the river, get out and take a break on shore. My wife and I did the 2 hour trip and both times it took us just over 3 with stopping for lunch and not paddling excessively. There are other "tour" type trips such as a kayak and wine tour where you end up going to a winery tasting after your trip. We are already looking forward to going again.

Would definitely recommend a trip down the Lamoille. Very friendly staff, equipment is in good shape. Make sure you put on sun screen, not much shade in the river. Have been using them for years

If you are looking for a peaceful and affordable place to kayak thia would be the best place to go to. The rentals are available for all day and they have guided and unguided tours. There is three different starting points that you can choose to be dropped off at. The reservation process is easy and once you arrive they will drive your group to a launch point privately (no mixing with strangers). Our driver Jackson waa very knowledgeable about the river and super friendly.

Be careful when driving here however because there is no sign at the road and the entrance is hidden and it is hard to find. We spent 10 minutes trying to look for it.

What started out as a very pleasant kayak trip, for the first hour, turned into nightmarish
Hell.
Before renting us the kayaks, the staff should have inquired about our experience with being on a huge river in a kayak.
Our answer would have been "zero"!
A 3hr trip turned into a
6 hour nightmare for our family of 4. We told them that our 11 year old is asthmatic but that didn't seem to stop them from
renting us the 3 hour package, dropping us off in "No-man's land" with only 4 bottles of water and letting us fend for ourselves. A 3 hour trip probably means 3 hours if your paddling non-stop. When we arrived back at the rental facility, 6 hrs later, we were exhausted, hungry, sun burned and dehydrated. Plus, the place was closed when we returned so I couldn't even give them a piece of my mind. It totally ruined our Vermont vacation.
Beware of an un-informative staff. We might do another kayak trip someday, just not with VCK.
We're very angry!

Great setup here for some leisurely paddling down the river. They'll shuttle you up the river and you'll end up right back at the kayak shack. No worries if you don't make it back before they close - they tell you what to do. Had a great afternoon because of them!

This place definitely deserves way more than one star. They have everything you need for rent, they give you a brief layout of what to expect and send you on your way via a shuttle bus (you paddle back down the river to their private beach). There were no surprises renting from VT Canoe & Kayak. They can help you launch, or you can launch yourself once you get to the starting point. The experience on the Lamoille River is one that will be remembered forever. It's absolutely tranquil and beautiful.

If you have zero kayaking/canoeing experience, you shouldn't go your first time alone. If you're simply renting, they expect you've done this before. And rightfully so.

If you rent, they give you an option of a 3-, 2-, or 1-hour ride, which you can make longer by stopping on banks to swim and hangout (which they encourage).

As they state, you can't get lost; any tributaries leading to the river are coming from upstream, so getting lost isn't an option unless you paddle upstream.

We rented a canoe from here for the day and we had such an amazing experience. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The young man who drove us to the spot to the canoe was so sweet and kind, and he even offered to help our family (who was canoeing with us in their personal canoe) unpack their things. And the prices were decent. I would definitely come back here to rent another canoe!

Great service, loved the VT locals 15% discount for our staycation. 1st trip down a river in canoes with our family of 4 and we all enjoyed our little journey very much. We can't wait to try paddle boarding or kayaking next time!

The wine and kayak tour is a must do! The river is an easy float/paddle. Boyden winery is lovely and the wine, cider, spirits and cheeses are delicious. Our guide, Elliot, was professional and enthusiastic. Can't wait to come back.

Great river to paddle down. Peaceful and quiet experience and really enjoyed the surrounding nature. You get 3 options and rent the kayaks for the day so go with the middle or longest option to get your moneys worth. Only real gripe is it's $40 a kayak and $80 is quite expensive for 2 people to paddle for 2 or 3 hours.

We were new when we started but man did we have a blast! The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. We asked a few questions and set out for an adventure! We loved it so much we went back several times and have now invested in our own kayaks.

My family and I have been going here every year we go up to Vermont. They are very friendly and are very knowledgeable about canoeing, kayaking and paddle boarding. I would highly recommend going there.

Bit disorganized at the office getting people into the vans, and the 1.5hrs of paddling means 1.5hrs of non-stop paddling! We thought we were going for a leisurly paddle down the river and we had to seriously paddle to finish under 5hrs! Rates are a bit high but honestly worth it for us. Good time overall.
