My husband and I and various friends have eaten at Veritas many, many times. The food is and has always been excellent, but somehow it seems to be getting even better than excellent, due to the creativity and skill of Chef Mathis. While the menu changes and there are always wonderful new dishes to explore, certain favorites are menu staples. My husband and I believe that the grass-fed burger is the best in the metro area, and, as an added bonus, it comes in two sizes. One of my newest favorites is the arugula salad, a wonderful fresh dish with a lovely balance of complex flavor from orange, pistachios, some crisped potato bites, and the arugula itself, all nestled on a surprising creamy blend of eggplant and goat cheese. The fine dining options never fail to delight. Currently, the braised pork with sweet corn goat cheese and roasted zucchini and yellow squash is a stellar menu addition. Veritas is a wonderful choice, whether you want a fabulous burger or a terrific hot dog when you're on the run during a busy day, or you've planned a special night out with a multi-course dinner and a great cocktail or fine wine. What's more, Veritas offers great service, a terrific wine selection, a bit of a shop with some specialty foods and dining related items, and a handsome, friendly and comfortable atmosphere.

Always an amazing dining experience.

Always an amazing dining experience.

Food is delicious, service is excellent, and the atmosphere is very warm and not at all stuffy like some similar places.

We've been here for date night several times. The menu changes every week so it's hard to pick a favorite dish, but the food is always interesting and delicious and the waitstaff is always super helpful with recommendations and wine pairings. The pickled mussels are a must order if they have them. The best thing I had last time I was there was pork with potato pancakes and all sorts of little delicious toppings.

I ate Brussel Sprouts and liked them!
Veritas hosted a luncheon today for about 30 Administrative Assistants and their Managers. The menu was wonderful! We had appetizers of a Brussel Sprouts and pear salad that was amazing, corn bread triangles topped with meat and cheese that could be a meal by themselves, hummus and fresh pita chips that were awesome, and a cabbage salad too good to miss. Just when we thought we were full, they brought out our main courses of roasted salmon with fresh greens and chicken in a wonderful light sauce! And to top it all off, we were served a light cream cake with lemon topping and chocolate brownies! Excellent food and service. Will definitely be making reservations for the office, and my family, very soon! It may take a bit to find the restaurant, but I guarantee you it will be worth it.

Update: used to be a regular client until I was yield at. Not worth driving so far for that.

This restaurant has an open kitchen. It s a pleasure to sit by the bar and see the chef working. He said the open kitchen keeps us honest, as he takes great pride in his work.
Food here is not a standardized quick bite. Come to this restaurant knowing you will have to wait for food preparation as your dish will be personally prepared just for you. It will also taste delicious.
Veritas serves true food, as the name implies. It s farm to table and family owned.

always had a good experiene. Once l had an entree l wasnt crazy about, but l didnt realize l didnt like al dente noodles until l ordered them. Some of the best food in st louis, and absolutely the best wine selections anywhere. One of my favorite places to dine and buy wine.

Awesome food! Fine dining menu Wednessday thru Saturday changes weekly, wine list changes weekly...extensive wine selection for retail price, wine tasting on weekends! Always a great house infused cocktail, pecan bourbon is my favorite! Brunch Sat and Sun 10-2. No buffett bogo cocktails and no wait! Mascarpone pancakes for Brunch were perfect! Great service, have to try roasted brussell sprouts, cornbread and the house made pasta!! Reservations on weekends recommended!

Exceptional food and atmosphere. We have eaten dinner here many times and never have been disappointed: all menu options are delicious and the service is excellent. We have also taken lots of family and friends so they can experience what we love.

Can t say enough good things about this place. I come here for my lunch break a lot and the food is always fresh and fast. The employees are so friendly and always make sure I have what I need. Love coming here!

I have lived in Ellisville for 8 years now and not visited Veritas. What a waste! We had a wonderful experience and cannot wait to go back! Luckily we have friends from O'Fallon MO that frequent it and convinced us to check it out!

The atmosphere was lovely and the wine very good and not insanely priced. The food, unfortunately, ruined the evening. My husband and I ordered three appetisers, no entrees. One, the brussel sprouts, was good enough that we would have returned if the others were comparable. They weren't. The fried chicken was odd and over fried, dry and uninspired. The fries were probably the worst I've ever had, which is saying something. They were super starchy and flavorless, undersalted and very dry. The aoili was just bizarre, less flavorful than plain mayonnaise. We couldn't figure out what it even had in it. All and all it was a highly disappointing visit.

We have been several times. Dinner has always been spectacular - We were a little disappointed in the service the last time we were there. We had our granddaughter with us and that may have thrown them off their game.

Went for Fathers Day brunch. Service was terrible as it took 2 hours to eat. Food was mediocre. French toast was almost uneatable. The bread needed to soaked in egg batter longer and was burned on the outside. Overall I would not return for a meal.

AMAZING food, AMAZING! This is such a special place. The owners are always present and strive to make you feel as if you are dining in their home. This is our go to place for an all around perfect night out.

My husband and I are somewhat addicted to the pomme frites /french fries, and have been for years. Recently, we visited and had a spontaneous potato extravaganza - frites, and this delightful side of mozzarella mashed potatoes. I mean, come on - how could that NOT be good? It was insanely delicious, hence this review. For dessert, we had a brownie with strawberries and cranberry ice cream, and I'd eat it again right now if I could.

Veritas is a gem, y'all. I should've posted this review long ago.

We went in for brunch. Cozy yet upscale atmosphere. He ordered the frittata and I was in more of a lunch mood so I ordered the burger, it was phenomenal! Jen was our server and she was very knowledgeable of the food and menu. When she found we hadn't been in before took the time to go over the dinner menu with us as well. Food and service were both 5 out of 5 for us, we will definitely be returning for dinner!

I worked in restaurants for 20 years, from sports bars to fine dining, and never experienced the lack of service or horrendous customer service at a restaurant. The night started by us seating ourselves, after we told the front desk person arrived for a reservation. We then had to wait 30 minutes for cocktails, though we finally realized they were sitting at the service bar, waiting to be finished. I suppose the server gulping down his glass of wine behind the bar was too busy to help an actual customer. My drink came in a glass that looked like the one holding our table s candle. Nice touch Veritas. We put our order in and ordered more drinks which came another 30 minutes after we ordered them. But - as they sat for 15 minutes in service bar, we went to get them. That s ok, beer needs to air out, right? We also saw the owner seeing us do this typically, an owner would be appalled at a table doing this they didn t care to help out or ask why.

Then my wife asks for a manager the same owner came over and explained the burger was cooking (really? Over an hour for a burger??) and that they accommodated our party of 10 that night. Oh so we should feel privileged to dine at your fine place? How lucky. She asked what did we want her to do as the owner, shouldn t you ask what is going on, what the issue is, and how it could be resolved? Cowardice. But not by the cook who comes out the swinging door and so tactfully says You can go ahead and leave and we won t press charges. CHARGES?? We had no idea what he was talking about, I thought he was kidding at first. He storms back to his place behind the line, probably to do more shots with the sous chef (yes, we saw them too doing this). Apparently the need for liquor on the line is the priority over a ticket that is completely screwed up. Of course, how could the cook know we had a high-ranking St. Louis County Police officer in our group, so thank god the cook was not going to press charges. Whew, finally some relief. Because pressing charges against customers who just want to go out to eat is pretty common.

Finally the last burger arrived. Except the server now says she actually forgot to put in that order, but that the fries were on the way. Wow.

Don t eat here. You can find plenty of other restaurants with good food and terrible customer service that will be out of business because of it and White Castle is always open.

Ordered take out...halibut and pork...unbelievablly good. It was a work of art....heirloom tomatoes, polenta, chantral mushrooms....the flavors, color and complex food combination! Highly recommend and ask for a wine pairing!! Amazing food!! And it was takeout!!

Food and service is great in this family owned establishment. Can start off with a wine tasting after ordering Apps and dinner seems to just flow. Brussel sprouts, deviled eggs and corn bread are great small plates.
