Venice Center for Climate Studies, San Giobbe, 30121 Venice, Italy Review

Ancient Renaissance church, simple in appearance but rich in works of art. It contained the splendid Sacred conversation by Giovanni Bellini, now in the Gallerie dell'Accademia.

Unfortunately I visited this church in a sad moment but I must say that I liked it very much

The first hospice dates back to 1378, with an adjoining small oratory still present, built in this area. It was Giovanni Contarini who wanted to build it in an area of his property, near his home, for the destitute people.
It was his daughter Lucia, with the help of the observant friars minor, who built the first hospital dedicated to St. Job, which in a few years became the current church.
But it was above all two personalities who gave the impetus to the construction of the new temple: the Franciscan friar San Bernardino da Siena, who worked in the city before his death in 1444, and the future doge Cristoforo Moro, a great Venetian benefactor. The latter, in 1471, three months before his death, donated 10,000 gold ducats for its completion.
The work began in 1450 and was consecrated in 1493.

The church of San Giobbe built in the first Gothic form in 1470 by Pietro Lombardo has inside the Martini Chapel decorated with glazed terracottas. The altarpieces of Giovanni Bellini and Vittorio Carpaccio were removed when Napoleon closed the monastery. They are kept in the Accademia Gallery, beautiful to reach along the Cannaregio Canal.

The artistic stratification over the centuries is very good.
Valuable works.
But recently plastic and metal crap have been added.
Why combine scarce modern immitations with ancient masterpieces?

When I entered, the church was pitch black.
There is no one around you, and you can only hear from the inside of the church.

I wonder how monotheistic one-to-one conversation happens in this way.

Incredible fascinating and out of mass tourism you pay to enter

After walking for half of Venice to visit this church included in the tourist city pass, we found it closed ... (at 10.15 am, we were told that the churches were open at 10.00). We had left it as a last visit before leaving, so it was a big disappointment.

Beautiful Church located in the characteristic Cannaregio district, not far from the Santa Lucia railway station.

Place where you can go play on Saturday or Sunday afternoon by finding local kids.

Venice a little out of the big tourist flows but always full of historical and artistic treasures

Simple church dating back to the fifteenth century but full of valuable works from various historical and artistic periods and interesting internal architectural solutions.
It was born from a small hospice attached to the existing Franciscan oratory.

Very beautiful church which is very well maintained to see absolutely

The church is located in an area little traveled by today's super-tourism. You can find a ceiling by DELLA ROBBIA and works by the Lombardo. Once there was an altarpiece by Bellini now in the academy. Some time ago the patronage was full of boys and girls (strictly divided) now an infinite sadness. I thank those who have turned my beautiful city into a desolate place. Sorry for the outburst. Visit this part of the city. Then Madonna dell'orto, castle, the arsenal. Basta San Marco ... Beautiful but besieged by wild tourism.

Delicious cicchetti. The staff could have been more welcoming.
