Top level research university. Too bad they are suffering from State budget cuts.
Orwellian newspeak safe-space social justice warrior snowflake cultural marxist nonsense.
I felt the school helped prepare me for graduate school.
Don't park anywhere near this campus. If you can, just avoid everything about the school in its entirety. I attended the school for a summer course that I was invited to from MCW (meaning that I'm not even a student at UWM, but came for a learning interest for one day), paid for a parking space on the campus lot, and then received a parking citation anyways. I'm very disappointed with the school's system to handle parking related issues: they don't allow phone calls and their website login process is not intuitive or easy to navigate. Basically, it's set up to make you feel trapped and forced to pay fines even when they're unwarranted.
My son IS going to the school and he said its awesome school
My experience with UW-Milwaukee's Study abroad program was absolutely terrible. I was discriminated for my age, sex, and gender, and because of those factors, was told I was not a good fit.
I'm giving them five stars just to spite everyone who gave one star for a ridiculous reason.
I only visited UW Milwaukee for the 2016 Algonquian Conference, so I can't speak much to the instructional quality of the staff or content of the courses. But, the campus itself looks good, and the building we were located in the for conference was very nice and well maintained. The lecture rooms particularly were better laid out that many other that I've encountered. The staff members whom I encountered at the event were very helpful and friendly, as well.
Once Walkers son staggers half drunk out of Madison my dear old Alma Matter UW-M will take a nose dive through the floor. UW-M does not need a new Union now! They cannot afford it!. Man how did they foist that on students. UW-M is outside the law on student Government and shared goverence too. I bet their new right wing chancellor is regretting the day he went in with that pack of right wing criminals in Madison.
Horrible experience. No one has any answers, misinformation, mistakes, things slip through the cracks. They just transfer you to someone else who also doesn't have the answer or tell you how lucky you would be to attend. No one takes any accountability for lack of information or wrong information. You get what you pay for in this case.
The campus is beautiful with an awesome mix of interesting architecture and accessible nature - it's a 15min walk corner to corner, which is great. It's located in a great spot, about a mile away from the lake, 10mins to downtown, and local to many businesses and a variety of housing, ranging from literal slums to million dollar mansions. I absolutely love how diverse the campus and all of Milwaukee is, everyone is so different from one another but it blends together in such a comfortable way. I made some great friends here, people are very friendly. Just walking around campus was one of my favorite things to do.
The education however is subpar. It is worse than the community college I went to, I mean it is really bad. I took many classes here over the course of two years attending full-time with winter and summer break courses, and there was not a single professor who actually took the time to teach, besides one Iyengar yoga teacher I had. She was cool. Most professors were frenzied and openly stressed about budget cuts. They were clearly overwhelmed with work because of the cuts. I transferred to another school after taking a break and it's a night and day difference in quality of teaching.
I love Milwaukee and the school makes for a good experience, if you are okay with throwing away tons of money for mediocre classes...
UWM not only offers some of the lowest rates around, our AE Mike Halagian, helps to make the process so simple! I just got an approval in 48 hours on a high balance conventional with almost no conditions! I LOVE the way UWM makes me look so good to my clients and referral partners!
Received excellent education in math and sciences. Prepared me well to compete with my contemporaries in the nuclear navy.
Just earn money from international student but don t care them at all
Horrible Experience! "Student Beware" If you are hoping for an exceptional online educational experience, do yourself a favor and choose another school. There are really some exceptional online colleges out there. Do your research and find a reputable program that support student issues. However, if your plan is to risk your health, well-being and entire life's savings for a UWM degree, then by all means go apply for entrance into their program. I tip my hat to you for your courage! Bravo!! But just in case you can't survive the bureaucracy of their administration and unjust policies which include, but is not limited to, self depravation of character and extortion, They will probably offer to do your Eulogy, for a fee of course, for a fee.
The day of my graduation was a joke. The commemorative speech was more focused on telling us how bad the job market was and to call our local government officials to get things changed instead of trying to be positive, congratulating and encouraging us to go use our degree's to our full potential. Not that I should be surprised, because I felt like a customer instead of a student here. Customer service sucked by the way. It is a research University and it shines through their professors who clearly would rather insult you than help. Would rather you leave them alone because they must have some other deadline that the University is pressuring them on for some research project. I had a networking lab, where the professor told us to Google everything instead of teach, while he worked on other things. Honestly, my money should have gone to Google, because without the help of Google I never would have learned what I needed to in order to graduate. (Computer Science Major)
Thank you staff and students of UWM. My electric chair stopped working on the bus. I called the sudent union. The security got me off the bus pushing me to the union entrance so I could make arrangements to get me home late on a Saturday night. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. When I needed the help you were there.
Decent school. A lot nicer then most people give it credit. For the price it should get some nicer equipment though.
Great Place to go for an education, but there is nothing to do around campus at night. The place looks like a ghost town on weekends and at night.
Just came here for a year and found quickly the poor teaching quality. There isnt much to do here and the school is surrounded by ghetto. There's a reason it's cheap and accepts almost anyone.
This is the type of people that they hire!! Such a disappointment.
Loved our visit to the school. Nursing department staff was very informative and helpful. Love the compact campus and location. We felt safe walking through nearby neighborhoods to the park and waterfront. Spent the night in a campus apartment nearby. Nice basic accomodations and i like the security. Secure parking garage with scanable key fob required for entry to both garage and building.
I attended UWM for my Masters in Civil Engineering. I've only good things to say about the school. Wonderful professors. Quality of education at least in my department is good. I took one course from Geosciences department and Prof Timothy Grundl was my instructor. He is awesome!
If some students felt, they did not get enough help financially from university, I can understand that as the school went through severe budget cut during 2016-18 period, when I went to school. But, I do hope things will improve.
Long live beer city! Long live Milwaukee!
The price for all the things provided is top-notch for a public university.
I put this as a 5star rating, because It makes a lot of sense..
You will get chipped. It s just a matter of time. It will happen to everybody, says Noelle Chesley, 49, associate professor of sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. But not this year, and not in 2018. Maybe not my generation, but certainly that of my kids.
Yeah that's because we have professors like this guy teaching kids to be dumb slaves. Good Job Professor. I wouldn't pay for my kids to come this college, I will pay for a college that teaches kids to think for themselves, it's called critical thinking.
I have no experience with living on campus, so I can't speak to that. However, I found the staff to be very helpful and the instructors knowledgeable and understanding. It was easy enough for me to figure out my own schedule thanks to their online resources, but I never had trouble getting ahold of my advisors, either. Lots of classes are offered online. The library is great. They also have shuttles you can ride for free to avoid parking on school grounds.
Overall, I would absolutely recommend UWM to any adult/returnjng student.
I work really hard to keep this place clean!!!! Let's GO PANTHERS!!!!!
Not the most positive experiences thus far on campus.
I just visited and I'm not a student here but it looks like a great place to study in!
The Golda Meier library is a very valuable resource, open to any Wisconsin resident. If you want to check anything out, you have to get a very reasonably priced "friends of the library" card, but anyone can wander in and consult the databases and work in the stacks.
The food is over charged but I love all of the events and opportunities there are to offer!
Graduated with an Arts & Technology Degree from here. The arts teachers really push their political agenda here. If you don't fit the mold of liberal or democrat then you will have a difficult time succeeding here. Most, not all, but most of the teachers in that field won't find any common ground with you, and will play favorites based on political affiliation. If you think this will cause problems for you, keep looking for other schools.
If you are looking for a school who is surrounded by the big city lights this is the place to go! Lovely campus with beautiful Bradford Beach in the summer. Great business, engineering, and communication programs. Very caring staff that are able to easily accommodate Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Blind, and past U.S. veterans looking to get a degree. I am a pursuing human resources management degree with a minor in Russian and certificate in International Business .
It's a happening place to be to meet people to hang out and chill
Racist admissions office, will take notes about what you say over the phone to the student employees that actually play a role in your admission. Very biased towards anyone who is not from the small town this university is in and if you are from a Canadian University no credits will transfer over. I suggest a different university with all my heart.
I took my daughter and truly this is an awesome school with an awesome staff she picked a good choice!!!
Great School! Really inviting and inclusive community. Top notch R-1 research program!
i love my new school i love college uwmilwaukee is the best school in the world i have to admit i'm glad i found a good school i would love to bring my kids too if i were to have any someday. i give uwmilwaukee 5 stars for being the best school in the world.
.b to yh
Mm
Hands down, the most exceptional school I've attended. I have gone to 4 different colleges from private schools to the UW System. UW-Miwaukee is a blessing. It provides culture, activities, and surprises every day of the week. They always have bake sales. There are so many different groups on campus, it's impossible not to fit in. They are affordable. The layout of the school is wonderful. We are helping to lead the country in reducing waste and our school has cut down on water usage and increased in recycling. We have gardens and greenhouses. Our business school is making waves. Our film school is listed in the top 20 in the WORLD. I'm an acting major and this experience has transformed my life. I strongly recommend attending this university. There's just so many things to discover here!
If you are considering UWM read the following from my perspective - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is undergoing huge transformations that will continue throughout the next decade. Top research facilities, new buildings, professors, and increased investment brought Milwaukee to the top of my list. I am studying architecture at the wonderful School of Architecture and Urban Planning where open studio spaces, big windows, and modern design inspire my everyday work. I am staying in Cambridge Commons which is a res-hall in between the wonderful downtown Milwaukee area and the main campus. Milwaukee (and more specifically Cambridge Commons) by far has the best dorm rooms. They are apartment style with A/C, four people that share two bedrooms, one main/general area, one full-size fridge, and a large bathroom. The campus features competitive D1 varsity sports along with growing popularity in intramural competition. The main campus is situated in one of the wealthy suburbs of Milwaukee so crime has never been a concern of mine and is 3 minutes away from Bradford Beach (a popular summer location for beach volleyball and hanging out with the locals) and the expansive lake park. Overall, UWM was a great choice for me and am proud that I chose to be a Panther!
Vending machines not stocked, poor selections. 0/10. I would not come back.
The management in this University is truly awful!
The chancellor seems to be busy with things that don't matter at all and is completely oblivious to the basic needs of the graduate students in this University.
Hope another one gets chosen, one that pays attention to what students really need!
The University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee is a hidden gem. Some people from the Madison area don't have the best perception of Milwaukee as a city, but the truth is Milwaukee is very nice. The campus is situated on Milwaukees North East side just a few blocks south of Shorewood and a few blocks west of beautiful lake drive. As long as you stay east of the river you are in a fantastic area.
Especially compared to Marquette, UW - Milwaukee has little issues in terms of safety. I feel safe around campus and it is patrolled regularly.
The campus has both older style brick buildings as well as newer modern buildings. The freshman dorms are nicer than most colleges and they are all suite style so you only share a bathroom with other suite mates.
The sports teams are D1 and are very competitive in the Horizon League conference. Just last year, they beat the Badgers basketball team at Madison. This year they were just shy of winning the conference championship with a chance to go to the NCAA tournament. Overall I have enjoyed my experience so far and highly recommend.
I have a lot of Milwaukee Pride and love going to school in my home but I have had many problems with the Advising staff. My current Advisor in the Education Department is wonderful and extremely helpful but the Advisor I had prior to her was horrid. She knew nothing and every time I asked a question she would hand me literature to read myself. Zero help and ended up in the wrong major because of it. Otherwise the school is great and I really do enjoy it. I just run into staff that are bad at their jobs sometimes. My advise is just make sure your advisors know what they are talking about so you don t waste time and money.
The English 101 course is the most redundant and needlessly time consuming course I have ever seen. I took English 201 at MATC and it is much easier to understand and complete. Projects are unnecessarily difficult, requiring way too much show your work assignments that are redundant and time wasting. One of the questions required for source citation is how they would interact or have a conversation with your other sources, which is ridiculous. There is no need for further complicating a subject that most students already struggle with.
Had a great time during my stay here. Beautiful campus. Great professors and lecturers!
Great internships available due to the city, easily was able to use my degree after graduation.
Daughter had a great experience attending some courses through the Youth Options program at her High school.
