Nice historic hotel right in downtown San Diego next to the Gaslamp District. Nice decorative common areas along with classy decorative rooms. Service was excellent during our stay. Staff is very responsive and attentive. Very pleasant stay! Highly recommend!

Where do I begin?

Where do I begin?

My husband and I wanted to end our week vacation at the beautiful and highly rated US Grant. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, we had nothing but issues which I addressed with Management shortly after we returned home.

When we arrived, we were not greeted. For a 5-star hotel, I expect to have someone offer to take my bags or open doors. None of this happened. (I
don't want to sound snobby, but this is why we chose a hotel with this rating.) We stood in line for check in and they told us our room was not ready. They told us to take a seat and they would grab us when it was ready. The gentleman helping us walked away and never returned. We sat for about 15 minutes before we walked up an asked if the room was ready. The new gentleman on shift had no idea we were waiting. Not a great way to start, but I'll cut them some slack.

We paid more for an upgraded room, to find out it faces the park littered with homeless people. The noise from the screaming people and the traffic all night was unbearable. I asked the front desk if we could be moved and they said they were sold out and handed me ear plugs.

We then went out and explored the town and came back to our room, which had not been touched by housekeeping. I called the front desk and kindly asked them if they could send someone. They apologized and said they would send someone right away. I checked on the room an hour later and nothing. I called again and they said they would send someone. Upon my third request I went to the desk in person. They apologized yet again and offered me a $50 credit. (Given the cost of this room, this was a measly offering but I accepted.)

The hotel itself was beautiful and the room was very clean. If you would like to stay here, please request a room away from the busy street and park facing view.

We've stayed at top of the line, 5 star resorts/hotels in the past and have had a brilliant experience. I am disgusted with the way we were treated and I unfortunately will not be returning. I hope things have improved for future guests.

Very nice hotel. In middle of San Diego downtown (close to gas light district). We stayed there after Thanksgiving and hotel was nicely decorated for Christmas.
WiFi setup was a little annoying since we had to connect to it each day. But otherwise great hotel!

Incredibly luxurious hotel with a lot of history. Opened in 1910, this hotel offers guided and self-guided tours of the building pointing out all interesting rooms and artwork. The rooms are large and well stocked. The beds are comfy and spacious and amply pillowed. The bathroom and shower are also fully stocked and roomy. The adjacent and aptly named bar, Rendezvous, was also really cool. Very spacious, it might seem empty, but in truth offers a lot of fairly private nooks and corners. Your experience begins with a delicious house vermouth and continues with live music. I tried the Monkey Party Punch Bowl and it was great. Didn't seem like there was alcohol in it, but there was. There was also a giant ice block with an image frozen inside, pretty novel in my experience. The Grant Grill within the hotel was also really excellent. Offering both a lounge and dining room, the service was spot on and the food delicious.

Outstanding hotel. Historic and perfectly located in San Diego. The hotel is really interesting to see, not your typical generic hotel where everything looks the same. The staff was absolutely outstanding. They treated everyone like celebrities. They went out of their way to make me feel welcome. I aleady have a reservation to go back!

The hotel lobby and conference rooms are very nice. This is clearly an historically significant hotel, which is ornately decorated. However, the rooms leave much to be desired. My windows look out onto a run-down series of buildings. The street level noise can be loud and clearly heard through the closed windows. When I called to change rooms, I was told that the hotel was booked, but they understood my problem because they frequently get complaints about it! The room keys frequently do not work (I've had to go to the the front desk twice to re-set my key), the WiFi is slow or doesn't work when transitioning between the room and the conference areas and the HV/AC does not work properly.

The hotel is beautiful and well maintained! Every staff personnel we encountered were extremely friendly, knowledgeable, mannerly and helpful. And ohhhh....the beds! You sink into them. Made it hard to get up in the morning! Also, you couldn't hear any noise from the hall or any other room. Very quiet. I loved the scent in the halls and elevators. What is the scent called? Would love to have it for my house. We will definitely be back.

Wow! This place is like something you see in the movies (old school vibe). Be aware that it is valet only ($49 per night) but don't let that stop you. The rooms are clean and spacious but a bit dated. The staff are all very helpful as well. If you're in San Diego, you should definitely check this place out

Absolutely amazing place to stay! Great location. Walking distance to many restaurants and the lobby is a great place to hang out in as well! The cocktail cart in the evening is a great way to start the night and lounging on the couches with the nighttime lanterns they put out is a great way to close out the night. This has been the best hotel experience I have ever had! Thank you so much for making it memorable!

I stayed at this hotel about a year ago, as a little get away to relax during my 7 months of being pregnant. I stayed in the signature suite, one of the best hotel bathrooms I've been inside. It was an excellent stay,so my bf decided to book the hotel again as another get away to relax, now that I have my body back to myself.... Haha

However this time around my daughter (5 months) fell ill the morning of our planned stay. I called the hotel to see if we could move the day and we weren't able to instead we had to forfeit the room and cost of a one night stay, due to an unforeseen occurrence. I totally understand the whole cancel policy, but their should be some type of insurance program in an event as such, that's a lot of money to just dismiss as if it was a 50 dollar room. It's a very disheartening situation.

So I'm giving two stars; 1 because I love this hotel and the 2nd because I wish i was able to be there. :(

Excellent hotel. Picture is of an important local history of women's rights/discrimination in the lobby of the hotel. Staff was very attentive, building exceedingly clean. Bar was full of people and life at night.

Excellent. The staff was amazing, nice friendly, Cory, Lee, Jerry, Albert, Alberto, Mr. Brooks, I wish I could remember everyone. They were very attentive to our needs. Our suite the Grant was impeccably designed and spacious. We had an issue with the valet but decided that with everything else being so awesome, it is OK not to be perfect.

Nice service and pretty luxurious accommodations. VERY expensive and you're charged for everything. Internet access is almost $15 / day! Also there's NOT much room for clothing unless it's hung up. NO clothes drawers available as they're for a mini refrigerator, coffee maker, etc. LOTS of outlets for your devices. Bathroom was large with nice shower.

It's an amazing hotel that takes no shortcuts with customer service. I only have two minor complaints. One there is no self parking only valet for 50 a night and two the rooms are a little on the small side. They are very comfortable and luxurious but definitely small for the price you pay. I would definitely stay here again.

Lovely hotel, not quite as luxurious as others such as the SLS in LA or The Chatwell in NY, and there is no mini bar, but lovely nevertheless. Staff at the front desk were fantastic. Rooms are good, but lack a wow factor. Great bathroom.

Not a bad place, bit run down/old seeming. Wifi was difficult to connect to, mini fridge didn't work, no labels in the shower so it was hard to set the temp well, also super slippery tile in the shower. If it was a cheaper hotel it'd be fine. For the price it was not good at all.

The room was spectacular. The history involved with that hotel makes this a wonderful place to stay. We happen to be staying there the night that the US soccer team smeared Denmark. Great times!

! BUYER BE AWARE !
Thouse of you that follow my reviews know that I rarely write negative feedback unless essential information is being missdelivered.

Couple days ago we booked reservations @ The US Grant for the LaborDay weekend. We book through Hotwire and took advantage of their hot rate. Considering that there is only two 5 stars hotels in this area . I called both hotels inquiring about pool access. I called the number listed on Google for US Grand and received information that even though they do not have pool on the property their guests can enjoy pool at their sister property Westin.

I went ahead and made the reservation. Uppon arrival I learned that this is not the case currently due to Covid-19. Perfectly reasonable answer if only I didn't inquire about this specifically for the LaborDay Weekend.
To make matters worse this continued when I requested to speak to the manager. Kimber who considering her position should know better, instead of let me see what I can do approach ...talked to me as if I was five year old child that can't comprehend English. She even extended this approach to try to challenge my level of compassion for the ongoing unforseen Covid-19 related changes. Without once acknowledging that I simply may have been misinformed by absent-minded employee..this definitely is far from what one would expected for 5 star hotel accommodation.
If she is infact one in charge of the operations I'm not surprised this place is going down hill. Simple I apologize for the inconvenience - let me see what I can do is reasonable expectations with 5 star hotel accomodation. Instead I learned that she is apparantly not a Magician and can't make pool apear. I do not recommend this place.

Excellent service and really nice rooms. Only complaint would be a/c struggles to keep room at set temperature. Room was hot at check-in. Other than that bed was great, bathroom spacious and high end LG big screen in room. Lots of history behind this hotel.

The US Grant hotel is obvious historical site, but also a well-appointed and modern-feeling hotel. There are grand staircases and long corridors, tall ceilings and tall mirrors, and old artworkb throughout, yet inside of each room is a quiet and dignified modernity. There were sufficient plugs for all my modern gadgets, but they were hidden (and yet accessible) so as to not take away from the overall aesthetics of the room. Everything was clean and comfortable. The down pillows were as much a letdown (literally) here as they are everywhere else, but the bed was medium firm with a soft topper. I really like the whole experience.

Stayed at the Signatute suite here and got to say it was well worth it! Staff was nice and fun no matter who you talked to and room service was always there to make sure we had everything we needed for a great night on the town.

Everything about the hotel was magnificent, starting with the entrance and the amenities all the way to the room and the oversized bathroom suite haha.

Will absolutely stay here again for my next business trip/weekend getaway. The staff here made our weekend great!
