I am an American citizen, living and working in Moscow. I have only used the consular services here twice, but I am less than impressed. My first experience was trying to mail my absentee ballot in the 2016 Presidential Election. Security stopped me and said I needed an appointment. I told them that I was here to mail my ballot, so I was permitted inside but had to check my mobile phone. Waited in line for 20 minutes just to hand someone an envelope, which they promptly dropped into a locked box for ballots. Why the wait?

My second experience was to get a document notarized. Again, no electronics allowed ... entered the new building off of Bolshoi Devyatinskiy. Nice new building with lots of windows for service, but most closed. Empty desks everywhere. Poor signage, couldn t find an open cashier window, and had to ask security for help. I had an appointment but still had to wait 20 minutes. They charge $50 PER DOCUMENT to notarize, which is misleading (the website makes it sound like it was $50 per appointment and you could have multiple documents notarized).

Sad that such a big facility is largely empty, but such is the state of US-Russia relations. The big challenge is yet to come when I try to get a US visa for my Russian fiance.

You cannot bring any electronic items inside- not even headphones. They don't provide a storage room, so you have to figure out where to keep your stuff before you go in. The "storage services" just outside embassy are in fact just two random guys who kept my things in their trunk for 500rub. I think this is very careless in regards to people visiting the embassy. If you enforce extreme rules, provide the means for people to follow them.

Exceptionally pleasant emotions from communication with all employees. HERE work competent, polite good people-you can always write and ask about the status of your case-answer quickly, get in the position when appointing an interview and generally in all matters. The new building and the organization of work in it are above all praise! Well done!
Before visiting carefully examine the issue of prohibited items, and your visit will pass without problems.

Barely speak Russian. Give visas to future illegal immigrants, and deny them to real visitors. Very disappointing...

July 17, 2019 filed documents. The question of protection, where you can leave a mobile phone and headphones, followed by an answer - outside the consulate. As a result, I left it in a storage room, which is located 50 meters in the direction of the Garden Ring, Big Devyatinsky Pereulok, 4. Many cells of different sizes. The cost of 500 rubles. Issue a check. Got a key from the cell, closed the mobile phone, headphones, flash drive, electronic clock. Released at 11-30, opened, took everything.
Opposite the consulate are cars "luggage". cost of 1000r.

The US Embassy in Moscow put the job on stream! Documents are considered quickly, there are no large queues for recording for an interview! If you correctly assemble the document pocket and carefully fill out the DS-160 questionnaire, then everything goes quickly and easily! Unfortunately, after September 1, 2017, there are big problems with an entry to the Embassy in Moscow. As an alternative, documents can be submitted in other countries (Baltic States, Ukraine, etc.). It is expected that the record in Russia can normalize in mid-late March 2018. We are waiting ...

If you sign up for an interview in the early morning, then do not stand for long. Attention! They do not allow lighters, headphones, and chargers to enter. Do not take them with you, otherwise they will make you throw them away and you have to buy new ones.

The USA is a great country. The last time I visited the embassy was in 2014. I was given a multiple-entry visa, as far as I remember, for 2 years. On that visa I visited Florida, there is a great crocodile and alligator park. Cape Canaverall is also worth visiting in Florida.

They are 100 years behind of quality service and quality of people from America and at least 50 years behind from whole Europe and 70% of world. Very poor quality of humans not even talking about service.

High security, everything is organized, the employees are responsive and friendly. About the headphones a lie, no one asked to be removed, it is not allowed to bring only electronic equipment and photo / video equipment. Interesting lectures in the American center.

Because the embassy moved to a new building, then it became much more convenient and much faster (she went through everything in 40 minutes everything) to pass interviews, the only minus is that you DO NOT carry the phones and leave them there NOWHERE, so take a person with you who will wait for you at the entrance or leave your phone at home. Everything is fine)

Twice served, and twice refused. But that's not the point. It strains me to take the phones. Music plays in the background. Half a day you spend on the pitch. A lot of people. It feels like it feels like you're breaking something. No comfort. There are vending machines with drinks and snowballs and toilets, but this is in front of the entrance to the interview. For the first time I served, so nothing was heard at all, what was there behind the glass asking. And the music played. Then she served two years later, the feeling that there was the same officer. That's real. Many people refused me. There you spend half a day there. And always the queue for entrance.

Consular Assistance to U.S. Crime Victims:

Consular Assistance to U.S. Crime Victims:

When a U.S. citizen is the victim of a crime overseas, he or she may suffer from physical, emotional or financial injuries. It can be more difficult because the victim may be in unfamiliar surroundings, and may not know the local language or customs. Consular officers, consular agents, and local employees at overseas posts know local government agencies and resources in the country where they work.

We can help:

Replace a stolen passport
Contact family, friends, or employers
Obtain appropriate medical care
Address emergency needs that arise as a result of the crime
Explain the local criminal justice process
Obtain information about your case
Connect you to local and U.S.-based resources to assist victims of crime
Obtain information about any local and U.S. victim compensation programs available
Provide a list of local lawyers who speak English

NO ONE OF THIS PROMISES WORKING. THEY SUCKS.

It was always amusing that a piece of one country could be inside another. A couple of streets (made according to American technologies and rules) can be seen from the third floor of the boiling point co-working: American road signs, sidewalk, space organization, residential buildings of the embassy staff.

Filed documents in June 2019. At the protection you can leave the headphones, phone, watch, no more. There is a car in front of the embassy and it provides storage services with "100% safety", I did not ask for the price. It is recommended to come before the appointed time for 30 minutes - a reasonable measure, because A whole group of visitors (20 people) was recorded for your time, and there are about five such groups. All of them constitute one line, where all the boundaries of time are erased)). As far as I understand, they will serve everyone, and the sooner you come, the sooner you finish .. my time was 9.20, at 9.00 am I took a turn, at 11.20 I left the embassy. Everything is calm, polite. Good luck to all!)

At me security officers of the embassy found out that one of the visitors left their belongings (apparently a phone or purse) at the entrance (at the gate), about which they informed the police officer, who controls the passage to the embassy territory from the street. Things were lying on a street trash can. The policeman approached this bucket, took the things lying on it and threw it into the bucket.
Do not leave things this way. It's fraught.
Opposite the entrance to the consulate there are some guys, like the storage service. They have nothing to do with the consulate, but people, as I have seen, are actively using their services.

My father lost his green card to catch our flight back to the United States. Except for some nice guards, there is no one available to see you. The guard handed me a card with a number, which I called. They in turn gave me an email for the State Department, and told me to write an email and that they would get back in touch with me, more quickly if they thought it was important. Very bureaucratic! Very unhelpful!
