Although I have mixed feelings about this place its and understatement to say I don't missed Kadena. I mean, I met good and bad people here and that's kinda bittersweet. However, this Island is gorgeous and that makes the base GREAT. There's nothing great about the base itself but the fact that is very well located inside a charming island full of great people and history. Underpaid airmen are very lucky to be stationed here and if they are smart they should look for love there and come back 20 years later to enjoy a safe and beautiful Island like the Ryukyu Islands...Okinawa.
I was stationed at Kadena from 65 to 67. Great duty station!
Lived there from 1968 to 1970. I was in the USAF at Kadena...1962 comm. Made Sergeant there in 69. Bought a Kawasaki G3SSS 90cc ..the Japan only version. Rode the wheels off it, then took it apart and mailed it home. Good times.
Was at Kaden from 67 to 73. Found the love of my life, Toyoko there. She owned a barber shop. In May of 19 we'll have been married 50 years. Why can I find any B-52 Photos? We almost sunk the Island parking there during the Vietnam war. Don't know if the 400th MMS(T) is still there or not.
1988-1990 enjoyed seeing this part of the world. Made some life long friends during my 2 years at Kadena.
Was there towards the end of 1993. Base had lots of activities. The grocery store on base was one of the best in the world.
In 2000, a coworker had told me that she had been sexually assaulted as a child on this base (1970s?) by an American. Nothing had been done about it.
Navy base on the south side of Tokyo was nice, too.
Stationed there Jan. 68 thru May 70, and enjoyed every Min. Was assigned to the 18 FMS AGE shop. Was also lucky to rotate to Kwan Ju, Korea due to the Pueblo crisis. Look we're still having problems there, nothing has changed.
i had so much fun with my sister there that i cried all day when i had to leave
Army MP in 1977, best diving ever, assigned @ Torii Station, best duty ever, wanted to extend but had a motorcycle wreck and medical evacuated to Fitzsimmons, Denver, great duty and civilians, loved it!!
I went to 2014 American Fest held at Kadena Air Base.
Aircraft ground display F-15, KC-135, E-3 AWACS, HH-60, etc. can be put in the plane.
Also, in addition to stage performances, opening a store where you can enjoy American food, there was also a fireworks display from 20:30 pm.
In the Okinawa Marathon, I ran at Kadena Base. Usually, only the protest rally is closed up through the media, but everyone at the base was very friendly.
I got this location when I looked up godzilla in Google maps lol
See fighters from both the United States and Japan up close
This is quite impressive!
It seems that the machine you can see in the surrounding country is different,
I saw the cobra ball once!
It was impressive to see Raptor!
U.S. Army eagle will soon be retired
Every service is on this base. Commissary, BX, housing, clubs, Healthcare etc.
I go to school here and sis it s overcrowded. And that s on period.
lived there 5 years when I was a kid...habu and mongoose
Enjoyed my stay from 87 to 95. Miss it from time to time but I have the memories/
Flew into Kadena (Kadena Big Mac as we called it) in 85 on a 6 month rotation MAG 13 out of what was then MCAS Tustin LTA. We were at Futenma air base across the way. Enjoyed my stay there
You can see how the locals are having a hard time at the US military base in the materials. On the other hand, it also sells U.S. military aircraft Goods, so it may be good for people who like it (Air Force enthusiasts?).
The airplane was so cool!
The military people were all kind
I lived there for a year and a half in the early 80's, while stationed at Kadena. Some of my fondest memories happened on Okinawa. I'm sure it's changed since then, but for me, it was wonderful! I would love to go back for a visit.
I remember living out here in 1983. The dumb a$$ that said you'll find barbarians is a sorry excuse for a person and needs to get a life. Just an observation!!!
I'm surprised that Chillies chips will come out forever!
The house cleaning is non existent. It makes it a very uncomfortable place to stay. The trash will pile up, the towels will be dirty, and the beds will never be made.
I was stationed here from 2006-2008, and worked at 18 COMMS as a computer tech. Best years of my life. The chow hall food was good, especially for the omelettes in the morning. Heading off base was so fun, especially going to the beaches, and just driving through the city of Naha. Coco's Curry was an obsession of ours, try it if you can. I still remember running on the perimeter fence road, and seeing those big snails everywhere. If you are stationed here, GO TO OTHER COUNTRIES! It is the one thing I regret, not having a passport and visiting Taiwan, Philippines, etc. Miss it.
My father was stationed at Kadena 1966-1969. We followed on a few months later. I remember having a great time but of course, I was a 10-year-old kid. My father was an Air Traffic Controller (272x0) Three memories stand out. Before we moved on base we lived outside of Camp Futenma but I went to school on Camp Hansen where our classrooms were quonset huts one day actor Fess Parker (Daniel Boone)came to our school. I saw my first concert at Kubasaki High School when my parents took me and my two brothers to see James Brown. The last memory was sad because it was the crash of a B-52 in the middle of the night in November of 1968. Our windows shook and my father was already in the shower by the time the phone rang. I served in the Air Guard and I was always hoping we could deploy there just to see what I could remember. We went to Germany 3 times though and Oktoberfest was fun.
6 months there TDY from Barksdale AFB, loved it, in 1972 SAC 135s flight line!
On July 4th, the base will be open so that even tourists can visit. There are food, and games and souvenirs are sold. There is a shuttle bus from the front entrance.
This is an American basket in Japan.
45 years ago on December 2, 1975 I hopped a plane in Philadelphia and started my journey to Kadena. Days later arrived arrived. I started out with aircrew life support with the chopper unit and then was transferred to the 25th Tactical fighter squadron that came over from Thailand. I was there until April 1977.
Had an incredible experience. Loved the culture and the food. Made quite a few friends that I still have some to this day. Always wanted to go back but I think things will change too much in 43 years. Lotta great memories there.
Was station there 68 69 70 review photo what a change 50yr i wood love to go back
This is where they store the "Treats" for Kim Jung Un. ;)
teehee! I LOOOOOVE it there I lived there for 2 years! My dad went diving and I snorkeling! I LOVE CHEESE teehee
Stationed here from 1997-2000 had a fantastic time. Worked in the Munitions area and drove many miles around that area. Can only imagine how much it has changed.
Asahi reported that 21-year-old sailor Aimee Mejia, who was stationed at Kadena Air Base on Okinawa Island, drove in the wrong lane and crashed into 2 vehicles in the opposite direction when the blood alcohol content was 6 times higher. The accident happened at 23:40 (local time) 4-6 days. Two people sitting in two cars were injury crashes.
The original suspect admitted drinking alcohol but denied other charges, including drunkenness. However, this person then got wrong.
The incident came at a time when US forces stationed on Okinawa Island were in trouble locally. The most serious is the case of a 20-year-old girl found in the forest in Onna City in May. A civilian employee working at Kadena Air Base, Kenneth Franklin Gadson, was arrested on suspicion. related to the incident.
Faced with the indignation of the local people, the US forces in Okinawa issued a curfew, restricted travel and banned alcohol outside the base for all military personnel, civil servants and their relatives. from 27-5 to 24-6.
These strict regulations still cannot prevent the car accident from happening, so Tokyo's strong reaction is understandable. Fumio Kishida Japanese Foreign Minister protested the incident involving sailors at a meeting Mejia said Caroline Kennedy, US ambassador in Tokyo on 5-6. Mr. Kishida also called for increased discipline of US military personnel in Japan.
Meanwhile, Japan's Defense Minister Gen Nakatani has called the incident involving sailor Mejia "extremely unfortunate".
At a meeting in Singapore on June 4, Mr. Nakatani and his US counterpart Ashton Carter agreed to conduct further discussions on measures to prevent recurrence of US military scandals in Okinawa.
The American Festa on the American Independence Day in summer is the best. Fireworks are held at night. I sit on the runway and watch.
I went last year, but it was quite good.
I think that the locals in Okinawa are also difficult, but there were no protests that were covered in the news, but I felt that there were more friendly locals.
I watched big planes (poor vocabulary) and fighters take off for two days in a row.
At this time
Day 1 Recommended by the taxi driver
Day 2 I came again without knowing that I would go around here
Lived there from 88 to 91. It was pretty a very interesting place.
Open to the public as American Fest irregularly rather than every year
There is a considerable distance from the gate to the venue, so it may be difficult to walk
Basically the visitors seemed to be entering by car
Since I took a taxi from the accommodation near Kadena Air Base, I was able to enter the venue smoothly, and it was nice to drive in a taxi on a straight and unobstructed passage in the base.
I still feel comfortable driving myself
Also, the taxi driver seems to be used to it and talked with the guards at the gate and passed through the gate.
There was no flight exhibition, only the ground exhibition of the aircraft, but the aircraft of the offshore other than the Air Force and the US Patriot were exhibited
However, we were able to see takeoffs and arrivals of civilian aircraft that seemed to be US military charter aircraft.
Compared to the Air Self-Defense Force air festival in Honshu and U.S. military events, the number of people was small and I could relax and observe, and I could get American food at the stall without waiting in line
I ate a steak on base there in 1968... those lucky airmen had it made.
What a joke... That this base still exists. They should go where they come from.
But seeing tax payers money to be wasted is quite impressive.
Plane broke down, kicked us out at 2am. Marines sleeping on grass waiting for next flight. No billeting available for us. Unsat
They Have It Made, Persay! If All The Forces Could Get Treated This Way, It Would Be A Better World.
I was stationed there from 1993 to 96 with the 33rd Rescue Squadron and I absolutely loved it! This is the best place for SCUBA diving on the planet.
Lived there for 4 years and really enjoyed the opportunity. The local nationals were respectful and a delight. Pictures bring up a lot of great memories!!
Lived at the base from 1984-88. The best years of my childhood. Came back after 33 years to vacation in Okinawa and tour the base. I tried to enter the base twice and was turned away. You need a sponsor if you want to tour the base. My father reached out to some people and got me a sponsor. She drove us around and I was able to tour the base :-) even after 33 years, visiting my old house and school seemed like yesterday.
Lived there for 3 years. Happiest I have ever been.
Been living here for 2 years now. Love it here. Love how close I am to the beach. Love what the base has to offer.
