Pretty good university overall, and still less expensive than the ones in Toronto. Comparable in quality to some of the larger schools in Ontario, but still not anywhere near a top 25 global university.

As a former student of this University, I was already prepared to leave a one star review but after seeing the blatant racism that was displayed and learning that it is at least the THIRD incident with this officer this is a no brainer. Good riddance, uOttawa.

One must be very dumb to think this is a good university. There is no difference between Rogers and U Ottawa. It seems they have researched very well how rogers pisses people off and they have adapted it all to the institution. Who are we kidding here. University of Toronto, Guelph, Waterloo, Carleton are way ahead of ottawa u. I have worked with students from all the universities mentioned above and their syllabi are more up to date with computer science. Those universities give their student a very competitive advantage in the real world. At u of o, most of the profs in computer science are immigrants who can barely speak English, let alone teach the course material. Everything is about java, even networking is in java. In real world, you don't do network programming in java. Coop is just another business for u of o. It is easy to find a job in computer science or software engineering. However, you can't opt-out of coop because this easy money for them. Why? even if you find your own coop, you still have to pay $695. Now with the # of students in the program, this add up to be a large sum that is easily a big profit in their pocket. All those people who rated this university as the best university ever are retarded and don't know what the best university is like. Jesus, go to UC Berkley or MIT or Harvard to see the difference and how competent the profs are. And by the way, all this good reviews you see here, don't let that fool you. They seem to be paid reviews.

The school tries really hard to rectify any mistakes it makes, its affordable (im from ontario) thanks to OSAP, their teachers are really nice and they have adapted tremendously to the needs of Covid.

This is a great University.... as long as you don't hold a Canadian citizenship. It doesn't matter what race or colour you are, if you hold Canadian passport they couldn't care less about you. Now if you're a foreign student paying international tuition fees you're set, Ottawa U has a policy of not punishing foreign students for blatant cheating and plagiarism as long as the tuition money keeps coming in. Not to mention you get priority admission and first choice in class selection. Canadian students meanwhile get last pick of everything, get treated like crap by the administration, and can't even expect to have their names said right at convocation.

I graduated in 2012 with a BSc in chemistry. The education was awesome and the experiences I had were also awesome. The faculty is super nice to you when your trying to get in. But once your in pray to god you don't have a conflict with schedules or switching majors or minors. I invested 5 years worth of time and at the end of it got a job. Since 2012 I have had 3 different jobs all in a very related field to my major.

Long waiting time since breakfast food is offered. 8:30 this morning on Laurier/Cumberland: 19 minutes to get a coffee, with only 6 persons ahead of me. Imagine when university students will be back on campus!

My limited time here was pretty good. Professors were a mixed bag from not so good to amazingly engaging. As with any education, it's what you make of it. I made a lot of great friends in a short time and I think it's an excellent school. The campus is beautiful and many of the buildings are gorgeous.

I spent a year her on exchange from the UK. Overall I was very dissatisfied with the quality of teaching here and wouldn t recommend.
The first week was very welcoming with my department and I really enjoyed it, but this was all thanks to the economics department themselves rather than the university.
Many of the lecture halls I had were rather dull.
I had the food pass at the canteen which I thought was expensive but the offering of food was pretty decent, think I gained about 8kg in the time I was here from over eating.
University location in the capital itself is rather good and the campus itself is designed well.

Oh, well if you were busy then... I had naively hoped uOttawa's reputation for its shabby treatment of undergrad students and unhelpful support staff wouldn't end up being true. Now I'm not able to get in a compulsory course because the Faculty of Arts was too "busy" to deal with a paying student! It has some good points, just be aware that you if you ever need assistance you are going to be a very, very low priority for them.

UPDATE- I finally got in but then was removed again...see 2nd photo. Unbelievable.

It is a decent University, however, it seems to be riding on a reputation that was awarded many years ago. Carleton University used to be in a distant 2nd for the Ottawa area, now, not so sure. Ottawa University needs to really improve. STOP favouring French speaking over all others. Raise the bar once more. I understand that there is a huge gap in the market for French universities in the area, that is NO reason to lower standards. If anything, it should raise them. Excell my location. Residence meal plan too pricey and needs much improvement. #localguide

Passive aggressive assistance when I called just now to ask some questions about my application. I'm an international student, and I waited 25 minutes to be put through, even if my questions seemed obvious, the least she could have done was NOT made me feel stupid for asking. It makes me not want to call again- please tell your operators to be more optimistic and friendly!

I graduated in 2006 so my information is a bit out of date but my experience at the University of Ottawa was mixed. Depending on the program and course you can have some fantastic or extremely poor teachers. My biggest issue with the school is the support staff are generally unfriendly and unwilling to help in comparison to those at Carleton or Algonquin. If I could go back I wouldn't go back to Ottawa U.

This university is extremely corrupt. They manipulate students into giving them more money when they already have tons accumulating. The university attempts to make it accommodating for international students, yet extremely are discriminative and biased towards so many issues. The professors are nothing special. They don't seem to care as much as a lot of other professors in different universities. I would never choose this school in my lifetime, but unfortunately have to attend due to unfortunate circumstances. Unless this school makes a decent change, I will always tell people to avoid coming here. If I could rate this a negative zero, I would.

Live in brooks residence. They failed to give me a key to my room since day one and I have put in multiple work orders since September. I still don't have a key and it's March... The people at 90U are students, so they're nicer, but the brooks residence workers are terrible. They blatantly ignored me, disregarded my concerns and made me run back and forth many times on the first day until finally opening the door with the master key. THANK GOD I'm moving out next year.

I am a graduate of this university and I am very very displeased that my library account was deactivated last week after almost 2 years of having access post graduation. This is very disappointing as I have an alumni card but this institution does not foster additional academics after graduation. Terrible ethics. Graduates of all levels should still have access to the online collection in addition to the physical books. Why can I take a book out but not look at an article? Shame to have given this place so much of my hard earned money.

Professors and campus was ok, but student services is the worse than in third world countries. Carleton is much better for student services. It's really hard to contact the right people when you need assistance.

Came here to attend a meeting. The lack of accessibility here is both astonishing and frustrating! There are stairs EVERYWHERE, a significant lack of push plates for the washrooms! The soap dispenser is out of reach; so using soap after using the washroom was impossible! The elevators don't go to all the floors; so, I had to go in multiple elevators, just to access the second floor! How anyone with a mobility device completes a degree here is beyond me! It gets one star for not charging a rental fee for our meeting.

I've met some really great people at the university of Ottawa. The buildings look beautiful in summer and fall with all of the ivy growing on it. I love that we are near the rideau centre and close to the downtown area where students can work. I'm in the music program and I have learned a lot. The profs are great and really know what the are talking about.

Terrible experience. I came all the way from Syria as a refugee with the intention of making my dream life and get education at this university.
All I was requested was pay a fee after a fee for only transferring a transcript from my previous university in Windsor.
In what world you must pay at least $700 to satisfy your application (with no guarantee you'll get an offer)? All they do is try to create an obstacle after another to make you pay more money to their pockets.
FOR THE ADMINISTRATION: applicants are STUDENTS, not VIPs.

Students are paying for the learning and research ...

Students are paying for the learning and research tools. For example, Carleton U offers free Matlab for EVERY student, while in uOttawa it only exists in engineering and science faculty labs and is not accessible for students from other faculties. You have to pay for it if you want to use it in your cross-disciplinary project. It's 2017 now and you would think a university should understand the importance and the popularity of cross-disciplinary studies.

Small compact campus so you dont have to walk too much, reasonably wheelchair accessible, has an elevated tunnel system between most of the buildings so you can stay inside. Has direct access to the otrain line 1. There are several pedestrian only roads for getting around safely.
The classrooms are for the most part well laid out and spacious enough.
There are several food and drink options around campus too.

Very good, very expensive

They should be more rigorous in their hiring process in terms of language skills. I don't know how many times I've gotten a teacher with heavy accents, to the point where I can't understand what they're talking about.

UOttawa also lacks in the bilinguism department, as there is only one french language group for every 5 in English ones (in my experience).
I've also noticed a lot of hostility towards french speakers during my time there. English speakers claiming to be "opressed" when French students push for bilinguism was a common theme.

Some of the comments here are not fair. uOttawa cafeteria is the second cafeteria in Canada offers 24/7 services. The food they offer is not great, but pretty fair since you only pay $10 for lunch and 13 for dinner (and it's all you can eat) I know some people who pay only 10 bucks and they stay there for dinner too, you won't be kicked out. It's also true that some profs here are very strict, but please...if you can't pass your course, maybe college is a better option for you.
