The University of Salamanca (Universidad de Salama...

The University of Salamanca (Universidad de Salamanca) was founded in 1134, which was confirmed by King Alfonso IX in 1218 by a royal charter. It is the oldest university in the Spanish-speaking area and the third oldest university in the world that is still operating. The formal name "University" was given to him by King Alfonso X on May 8, 1254, and in 1255 it was recognized by Pope Alexander IV. The university dates back to the cathedral school whose traces date back to 1130. The historical phrases Quod natura non dat, Salmantica non praestat ( What nature does not give Salamanca does not lend ) and Multos et doctissimos Salmantica habet ( Salamanca has many very educated ) explain the prestige that this institution achieved very quickly. The University of Salamanca recognized the Copernicus system according to which the Sun was the center of the Universe at a time when the church still considered this idea a heresy. Miguel de Cervantes was a student at this University. Like Oxford and Cambridge, Salamanca had a large number of colleges (Colegios Mayores) that were established as charities to allow poor students to attend the University. Until 1580, 6,500 new students enrolled at the University every year, and also in this period, probably for the first time, women enrolled in studies, among whom was Lucia de Medrano, the first woman to ever be a lecturer at a university.

I have to say that the institution has let me down a lot, the management of extra-ordinary courses leaves a lot to be desired. The information is concise and of poor quality. Very little respect and very low responsibility with the students. A good example of how to squander an illustrious past.

Luckily for a mafia we have gone to a better university ... they often have a mess with tuition at the usal.
They charge your tuition and then tell you that you are not admitted ... weird, weird right?
Winning 100% at the UAM, this is a good University much better than Salamanca.
I give the Salamanca usal a star because you cannot give zero and especially to the rude staff of the Rectorate ... bad leaders and moody.

The tradition of visiting Salamanca University is to find a little frog hiding in the decoration of the building. There is a legend that if a student can find the frog, then he will pass the exam. From a historical perspective, frogs are always associated with shortcomings such as bad habits and inactivity. Imagine that it is also a moral lesson for tourists, so that people come here to realize where to go and where to go, what is the right path in life, and truths such as virtue, facts and wisdom

I was only here for a brief tour of the university and have not studied there. The architecture is exquisite and it is very interesting to see the old lecture theatres and defense halls. It is a stark contrast to a modern university but with a beauty that is hard to find these.

In my view, the University of Salamanca is quite overrated. The visit disappointed me a little, perhaps because my expectations were higher, and of course the 10 that the entrance costs seemed abusive to me, it is the monument of the most expensive city to visit by far.

Expected more. You pay quite a lot of income, but there is not much to see. Building itself is also pretty boring compared to many other buildings in the city. The library seems impressive, but it is closed to the public again, only through the glass door you have a good view of the collection.

Some may say that this university is overpriced for 10 Euro. In my opinion, it is totally worth the price. Where else can I find such a beautiful medieval university which is so well preserved?

As there was a shower on that day, tourists were scarce so we could enjoy the campus as much as we want. With the audioguide, you can walk along different areas of the university and check out its function hundreds of years ago. Imagining how students listening to the lectures in the wooden built lecture hall (without the powerpoints and speakers) and the inauguration ceremony in the hall is itself a breathtaking experience.

The 'finding the frog' game suggested by the university also gave us a lot of fun as we did spend considerable amount of time searching them on the incredibly complicated sculpture at the entrance. And the joy of finding it (in the answer sheet of the university shop) makes it more delightful.

Their university shop sells the real deal with delicate laser cut cards and addictive alphabet stamps based on their canon and harry porter like leather bags, computer cases and stationery.

The facade is beautiful and finding the frog is fun.

On the other hand paying 10 to see old wooden benches in austere classrooms and being locked between 4 panes to be able to look at the library which could have been interesting make me say that it is a scam!

Do not visit the interior unless you have time to waste and money !!!
