Unique Residential Care Center Review

I've been dealing with Unique since September 2019...so far it's been ok. You have Julia Gadsen, who is always available to me if I have a concern...made me feel comfortable since day one when my father came to this facility. It's hard enough having to put your parent in a nursing home...harder if you don't feel they are being looked after properly. Most of the staff seems to be attentive. I'll be back later to review some more.

The finance department is awesome also. They submit various, necessary paperwork for you which enables you take care of other things...which I appreciate. Joy Shaw knows what she's doing!!

March 8 update

Nothing would please me more than to give Unique 5 , but I can't at this time. For me it's the little things...i.e., gloves, gloves, gloves!!! I have a real issue with this. I don't feel there should a time when I visit that there are no gloves available outside my dad's room or inside his room, which has been the case on numerous occasions, and since the coronavirus is alive and kicking and the elderly are more at risk, the lack of gloves really needs to be addressed. For that reason, I have to take away a . There is always room for improvement.

Just glad Unique isn't allowing visitors during this pandemic...must keep the vulnerable safe. I it.

August 3 update

I have no idea what's going on done there, but I have been trying to get in touch with my dad for 2 weeks and it's always something. If the phones are broken, FIX THEM!!!

They seem to be going through staff changes like crazy. The people I've been dealing with over the past year are no longer there...what's going on? You call and leave messages and no one returns your calls.

WE'RE IN A PANDEMIC...I WANT TO TALK TO MY DAD!!!!!! THIS IS NOT HOW YOU TREAT FAMILY MEMBERS PERIOD. So, I must take some stars away. Sorry, not sorry.

This place should be shut down. Their behavior toward residents is criminally negligent. Staff are unresponsive and unprofessional. We'll do every thing in in power to shed light on physically abusive and neglectful treatment of residents almost resulting in death. We'll work with lawyers to shut them down and with the media to spotlight harmful, abusive, and negligent practices.

I have utilized this facility since 2017 for my loved one and have experienced constant apologies and excuses as to why there is a lack of attention to the patients; cleanliness of the patient bed area and staff availability when the call bell is activated. The Administrative staff seems to either continually be unavailable, off site or just not answer the overhead paging. The staff changes occur constantly due to dismissals or resignations. If your love one can not advocate for themselves or have supported family, they are subject to an unpleasant and unsafe experience. I have even experienced, my loved one being unaccounted for in the facility. It took the Director of Nursing >30 minutes to locate her.

Unique is very hospitable and clean. The nurses are very nice and kind to my Mom. She says every time I am there they are very nice to me. Continue to prosper Unique.

DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT send your loved ones here. After my mom arriving to the faculty they didn t give her meds said she arrived too late 2:30pm. They were aware of her arrival since the day prior and had her medicine list. Ensured the hospital she would receive them but clearly a lie. Said she will get them tomorrow at 2pm which she now missed 3 doses of medicine and in lots of pain. At almost 1am I get woken up to a call she is on her way back to the hospital due to the pain. Already had bad feeling when billing was rude to my mom, case manger at the hospital and myself when we called to inquire about expenses . I wish I could give them NO star but please do not send to this place I will report them first thing in the morning.

My sister was at this place on the 4th floor in room 4 North just beyond receptionist desk. A woman staff member blocked the door to keep me from entering the room. She told me not to enter and touch my sister. She continued to argue with me as I entered the room. My sister looked like a corpse I called her name very loudly she did not flinch so I had her hospitalized. They didn t give her personal belongings I.e. purse, cell phone and other belongings. Prior to that day she was on 3rd floor and they ve made fun of her, mistreated her and her physician said she smells bad and she will be separated and moved to another room alone. At the hospital she was seriously infected and was hemorrhaging internally as the result from Unique Residential Care. Do Not put your love ones in this diabolical place as of 6 FEB 20.

if I could give Unique a -0, I would. The nursing staff on the 4th floor is the worst. It was like walking into a hospital in Vietnam where people are screaming for nurses and oh by the way were lazy. I was there for 4 hours with someone and the nurse staff just sat there as the patients were screaming. They just ignored them. My family member needed more oxygen but all there machines were broke. She also needed breathing treatments but it took 3 different machines to work. my family member had a stroke and was not able to have water. How about they tried to give it to her. Very incompetent..did not read her chart. Lucky we are smart and did not leave her there. Called 911 and got her the heck out of there. Contacting DC Government Monday. This place needs to shut down. They do not care about their patients. There are no camera's on the floors and they are doubled up in the rooms. That leaves for people to do things to your loves ones. Especially since the staff refuses to look after the patients.

I wish I could give this place a negative 0. This place is awful it started off being slightly decent last year but things quickly went downhill. All the great staff they get seem to come and never stay. My grandma is on the 4th floor and the staff is awful. I found my grandma in need of medical attention and the charge nurse refused to call 911. I was told he didn t see a medical necessity. Needless to say I called 911 myself and my grandmother was admitted into The hospital. This place is horrible. I wouldn t even leave my pet at this place. Today was a rude awakening for me and also very scary. I will be taking my grandmother out of here. This place needs to be shut down. She s safer at the hospital
