Either they re under new ownership, had a bad day ...

Either they re under new ownership, had a bad day or Union Street has just gone down hill (pun intended). The meal we had there was potentially one of the worst I ve had in a long time.

Their bacon wrapped dates ( Devils on Horseback as they re called) were tiny, dry and tasteless. They ran out of plantains so they had to make their Plantain Nachos with tortilla chips, which would just make them normal nachos, but these were small, bland, dry (again) and extremely skimpy with toppings. It didn t help the the waitress was completely preoccupied with whatever else was going on in her life and brought all of our food out late and cold.

The worst item on their menu is the Big Mac Flatbread. Now, if you tell me that if I m stupid enough to order something called Big Mac Flatbread, I deserve what I get well you d be right, but for the record it was horrible. It left me asking, where s the beef. No, seriously, there was no meat on the flatbread at all. It was cracker dry crust with a bunch of condiments on it.

I could go on, but you don t need read my rant. There are so many good restaurants in Newton Center. Go to any one other than Union Street. It s not even cheap.

Food was ok, pan-Asian a la carte

Food was ok, pan-Asian a la carte

Service ok, it seemed a little confusing, menus weren't explained well but our server was able to answer all out questions well.

Prices were Mid

Decor was basically a few Asiatic decorations in a fancy European styled interior. It felt more like being at some function in a really nice dining hall, in though the place would be better suited for mid to high fancy foods. It's a beautiful dinning area.

Went on Monday for dollar oysters, They were all excellent! We also had
hotpot, beef and onions.

I wanted to like the place more, but it was just average and pricy, but well made and good ingredientes in a really nice setting.

I'll go back to see if they improve. For now 3 stars. I hope to bump it up, I want to like this place more

The descriptions of the food on the menu is not actually what you get unfortunately... I had the very veggie burger which is supposed to have pico de gallo on it, but it was actually just slices of tomato. Also, it did not come on a potato roll, it was just a regular hamburger bun. My partner had the bison burger which is supposed to have a brioche bun. It was just a regular hamburger bun. Not 100% sure if the bison burger was totally all bison either... Lastly, the fried pickes with barely fried.

I would not recommend going here. Sorry.

Great food, Amazing service! Very fast, and even with a busy restaurant our waiter, and a man who I believe was the manager were very on top of everything. Waiter brought a new drink that needed a refill without even needing to be asked. And manager stepped in and took our check for us, within a minute of it being put down. Mac and Cheese was very good, and the Avocado Brushetta is a must try. It's super creative and super tasty. The atmosphere on the patio is also very nice and well maintained during the pandemic, and before it got packed I could tell they really put in the effort to space people out.

If you want to serve your own food but be expected to tip, this is your place. Foods was decent, great patio, but service was horrible. The waitress didn't even set out plates or utensils, or bring food, or bothered to take our order until we chaised her down 40 minutes after we got our water. The management and all other staff walked by completely ignoring the situation.

We really disliked one of the dishes we ordered. That wouldn't have diminished my rating, which would probably have been 3 stars. What diminished my rating is that even when -- after the waitress failed to notice (or at least comment on) the fact that we'd shared one entree and left nearly all of the other pushed across the table -- I explicitly commented on how bad we considered it, she still showed no evidence of caring. At that point I was so annoyed that it bugged me when the hostess said goodnight as we left, without asking if we'd enjoyed our meal.

This used to be a bar and restaurant I could go to with my father. Now it's a loud sports bar that tries way too hard to be trendy. That being said, the food is okay and the bar has a good beer selection. The biggest problems are the terrible service staff and the fratty atmosphere.

When my wife and I arrived, the bar was very crowded, so we asked to be seated at one of the several open high tables with stools. The waitress said that if we aren't eating (it was almost 10pm and we just wanted drinks), she would need the manager's clearance to seat us at a table. After 5 minutes, someone got up from the bar and they squeezed us in there between two very loud, very drunk groups (despite the 4 or 5 empty tables next to the bar).

Then, they refused to accept my federal government-issued ID with a hologram. I've been coming to this bar for 10 years since I was old enough to drink. I presented in total 3 forms of picture ID (two of them government-issued) with my birthday printed on them. The bartender (who wasn't familiar with the drink menu or the scotch selection) had to ask the manager, who (after another 5-minute wait) said he couldn't take ID that wasn't a passport or a MA driver's license. The manager appeared to be younger than I was, making this a really bad joke.

It's loud, weirdly decorated and the staff won't do anything without asking the manager's permission every 5 minutes. There are much better places on this same block. If you want to watch sports over a casual dinner and drinks, I recommend Terry O'Reilly's around the corner. For dinner, B Street is delicious and Deluxe Station Diner cooks up a solid casual meal.

Reliable spot with good food and plenty of TVs. To be honest I rarely come here unless I'm looking for an easy spot to grab a beer and catch up with someone when they are coming through Newton. Its a perfect spot to hang for a bit because it's comfortable, you can find a spot out of the way and have conversation with out it being too nuts.

Nice selection of beer, and the food is so-so. But ALL their high-top chairs are so unstable, its scary to sit on them. The service is a hit or miss. The waitresses are tip hungry and will not serve you well if you leave anything under a 25% tip. The servers are nice. The bouncers are friendly once you are inside.

Love Union St Pub. I come to Boston frequently and always take the D trolley to Newton Center and have to go to Union St. The food and atmosphere is terrific and renovated and it's very nice although I also liked the old Union St, especially the downstairs dinning room where they used to have the painting of the D trolley on the wall. I recommend Union St Pub to anyone when in Boston. I was there lsdt night ( 12/19/2016 ) and Jacob and the other bartender whose name I didn't get, were very friendly .Worth the trip to Newton.

This place became our favorite spot for Multifamily Investor Network of Mass group which has over 1000 members by now. Besides good energy, Union Street Restaurant offers all that a private event may need: Private Lincoln Room on the second floor, professional bartenders, AV technologies, great food, attentive managers and convenient location, - the whole packet to host a successful event for any occasion. We love coming back consistently for over a year on a monthly basis now. Best spot in Newton!

Pandemic dining perfection! Spacious outdoor seating, very clean inside, hand sanitizer on the table, easy reservation process and friendly and respectful staff. The food is excellent and many of the beers on tap are local.

Decent food and service. Prices on the higher end. I had the fried chicken sandwich and it was pretty average. The espresso martini was delicious and I recommend it. Also had the fried pickles to start and those were delicious.

The star is for getting to sit outside (though being told we'd need to order food on an empty patio was a it much). Bottled beer was OK, taps could use a cleaning. Napkins and silverware were dirty, spotted and stained. Service was slow. Food was not great and carelessly made (onion ring bits in iur friend pickles?). Too bad, fond memories.

We walked into the place, had a seat at the bar, ordered a drink (which was a watered down drink), and then were apologized to because of "30-40 minute delay" on all food orders. The place was not crowded at the time. Of what I saw from other orders, the dishes looked absolutely nothing like the pictures. Will not be back.

Nice spot that has changed owners quite a few times over the last year. My first beer was flat but that upon showing the bartender she immediately replaced it for me and also replaced the keg below. The food was really good (I got the fish tacos). Service was good and the staff were nice. Will be back again for sure.
