Avoid, if you can afford it go to Bauer instead. UHCL's MBA program is worthless you never get any real opportunities to go to conferences and the on campus organizations are geared towards their computer science and liberal arts degrees. For the price you are better off going and doing a certification at a community college, there is no push for students to find employment.

Joyce Young Is the worst person in this university. Sent her 3 emails 1 month ago to know if they still have spot available for Reading tutoring but no response so far. In past she intentionally put us in waiting list and other person got the spot instead. She is so racist. She should be fired immediately.

I am sorry to say that the people working in the offices of the advisors and many other offices, are the most clueless and unprofessional workers I have encountered in my adult and professional life. This school and staff are not at all and in any way informed on the school's own information.
In all brutal honesty if I could rate this University any lower then one star I would. Not only have I had a scenario in which the advisors office "lost" my appointment nearly six times over, I continue to have difficulty of great measure when setting academic appointments with the advising office. I have come to the honest and cold conclusion that I am absolutely nothing more to this university then money. That is the sum of my efforts at this University. There is an illusion that the staff here "care" for the success of their students. However, I have been intentionally over looked and wrongfully mistreated by office staff of many different offices at this University. Including advising(ignoring and not keeping scedualed appointments), student services (money injustice), enrollment (they lost enrollment form) and many others.
Please do not send your children here thinking the staff of this university will guide or direct your children.
I am never one to speak harshly of any, however allow this information to warn you in your endeavours in searching for a school of study.

I wanted to take some classes to help prepare for graduate school in a few years. I already have a degree, and I didn t need the prestige of going to the UH main campus lol. The professors were good enough, friendly, and accessible. The campus is in a beautiful area adjacent to Armand Bayou Nature Preserve. Lots of wildlife.
I recommend this school if you need to pick up a few credits like me, or want to pursue degree close to home.

The rating is for MHA ( masters of healthcare Administration ) degree. The Professors here are terrible , have no knowledge & skills. The attitude towards foreign students is terrible . For Managerial epidemiology class all we did was play the game " Pandemic" and they charged around $3500 for the course.
One of the professors barred me from getting any internship for not attending department orientation , the orientation was in Downtown campus , I was new to the country and was lost in downtown so was unable to attend.
The degree has LOST accreditation (CHAME) and the department is least bothered to improve and gain accreditation. This university has ruined my life and career . The degree has no worth , the internship program is a joke .
My suggestion is to stay away from this School .

I transferred from U of H to UHCL and I'm liking it so much more. UHCL is cheaper than U of H. The campus is beautiful, I see deer almost every time I go to class and there's plenty of parking. The classes are smaller which I like. They offer many online classes, and I like to sleep in so its prefect for me. They even have Starbucks!

It's a pretty straight forward school, and very convenient if you're in the Bay Area. It was much less bureaucratic than other schools I've had experience with. Also, the campus is nice. The only negative is that since it's still mostly a commuter school, the social scene isn't great.

Currently a student of UHCL, my only complaint is that I wish they offered more than 7-10 PM classes in the evening. However, I understand as it's a small university and it's more convenient for those who don't get off work until 6 or 6:30.

I love UHCL. I'm currently working on a master's degree here. It is a smaller campus so there's not much of a social life on campus. Although the university is working on more social events and on campus activities now that they accept freshmen and sophomores. I like it here because of the quality and genuine concern that the professors give.

Great school! I am enrolled in their new Mechanical Engineering program and it's great. The professors are good at what they teach, however that doesn't mean the classes are easy. They just build a new recreational builging, STEM building to accomidate all of the new students, and are currently builing thier first on campus houseing. There are some good places to study; pretty my any building you go into there are areas to study. The cafeteria has some good eating option and will normally find myself eating there when I am at the school all day.

UHCL is a criminal organization.

UHCL is a criminal organization.

Their admissions department is trained to provide misleading and inaccurate information about residency requirements in order to extort tens of thousands of dollars from the students they have duped.

The only way I would interact with this organization again is testifying at their trial.

The drive to increase student registration numbers comes from the highest levels of the organization. No ethical considerations get in the way of accomplishing those goals.

This the worst college experience of my life at the North Harris campus. The financial aid was terrible as well as the financial director Nic. I received a grant from Nam's to go take the nurse aide course at lone star and completed the course and passed so when I applied for credited classes they said I owed money for the nurse's aide class but Nam's had already paid for the course, but financial aid kept giving me different reasons why i owed the money, so in the end I ended up paying the money, so the financial aid dept would process my credited classes. They must have pegged me as a easy mark to get over on cause they started giving me problems with financial for my credited classes etc.,etc. I could go on and on with the unprofessional and mishandling I experienced with this North Harris campus. Please think twice before enrolling to this campus, all these bad experience reviews are true, with most if them complaining about the same issues over and over! My blood pressure still goes up every time I talk about all the stress and anxiety I went through with this campus. Get it together North Harris for the present and future students.

The teachers here are a lot better than at my undergraduate college. You will have a harder time getting a job if you go here as opposed to UH main campus, TAMU, or UT..This school is underrated and some of the students just don't belong..This isn't High School!!!

I did my master's in MIS here, the course work was okay but tuition fees are too high for this level of University. They keep increasing the fees and insurance every semester. Some of the courses are just there for the money and they are too irrelevant. There were fewer on campus jobs plus they don't promote internships. I don't recommend it to anybody.

I applied to UHCL having never actually been there and it was the best decision I ever made. I was a Psychology MA student, but I also took courses in the EXHS program and work for Campus Recreation. I did an unpaid internship in the teaching of psychology. This experience was hard because of the lack of money, but just 1 year after I graduated I was offered a tenure track Assistant Professor position (at age 25).

My courses were difficult, but there was not a single one I did not enjoy. Statistics was my favorite class and now I teach courses such as Learning Framworks, General Psychology, Lifespan Develoment, Intro to Statistical Science, and Biological Psychology.

I highly recommend this school and its programs.

When I attended UHCL for my degree, The universities standards are not for the weary or faint at heart and a person is held accountable for every homework assignment turned in. Therefore if you want a college where you can just skate by on assignments and just do the minimum amount of work, UHCL is not the college to pursue. The professors are excellent in their knowledge for course content. They give their best in designing, teaching, and providing an excellent college atmosphere. YOU will learn a great deal from the university and when you graduate you will know exactly what is needed to pursue your career. I am very proud to have graduated and I recommend the university to anyone who wants a great education with notoriety, for a career.

This only gets two stars for the Teacher certifica...

This only gets two stars for the Teacher certification program s university supervisors which are amazing.

The school is terrible. Financial Aide Dept can t tell the difference between their ass from a whole in the ground. EVERY semester there is an issue. I m getting my graduate degree here. I ve been to UH main and HCC for my Associates and Bachelors, NEVER had any issues at either of those schools. Every semester at UHCL is some kind of error drama I have to get fixed. One year, they sent a notice to my loan provider saying I had graduated already, oh really? Can I have my degree then? You d think that would be an easy fix, but no it was a huge hassle like everything else at this university. Multiple semesters they had issues with their payout system for FIN AIDE and I was 3 weeks into semester before I got my money for books.

This semester the fun aide Dept has seen fit to incorrectly calculate my SAP saying I am not meeting it because I e taken too many courses towards my degree. Uuuuh No. I belong to two different programs, one which I successfully graduated from (teacher certification) and the other is Masters program. But they are somehow counting my courses for the other program towards the SAP for my Masters program. Wrong. But I m sure this will be a huge hassle to fix like the time they said I graduated already. We ve gone through a couple of deans at the university already, just in the time that I ve bern attending. They do NOT manage things correctly, they rip off students by charging crazy tuition rates and yet you end up with mostly Adjunct professors who have other fulltime jobs. Think of those as substitute teachers who could care less if you actually learn what you need to for your future. They don t bother to hire permanent faculty who actually have a desire to teach you and arent just trying to make extra money. I had an adjunct that was a public defender for City of Houston, and seriously all he did was show us YouTube videos all semester. I m paying $3 grand for that?!!!! Pardon me, if I actually want to LEARN!

This university is a joke. I have a kid going to college soon, and they couldn t pay ME to send him here. Go literally ANYWHERE else.

The financial aid department never did their job and caused me and my spouse issues when we attended there. All they cared about was getting as much money from you as possible and didn t care if you graduated. Thankfully we did graduate but not without many hassles do to their negligence. Wish I had of stayed at UH main where they offered better majors and minors with all around better degree programs.

I love my alma mater! Great campus surrounded by amazing nature preserve; you can see deer regularly around campus enjoying the nice weather. It's small and conducive to a sense of community; hoping the expansion will attract more students. It's the best of both worlds - a diverse student body with a small campus cultures that blends well to self-discovery and a sense of community.

Some good professors but majority are biased. There is lots of politics for getting on-campus jobs and even positions like TA or RA are not based on merit. Small campus and very less facilities compared to the education fees they take. They cut down on facilities and keep increasing on fees. Very bad management.

I love this campus of University of Houston. It has a large park type area to walk around in or study. There's always people walking around or riding bikes. The library is a marvelous place to get away from the traffic of people and relax from studying or study. There's almost always events going on that make you interact with the college a little. Parking isn't free and without a visitors pass you will get a ticket. You will also get a ticket for going over 30 MPH so watch your speed.

Human Resource Management Degree-Online

Human Resource Management Degree-Online
I enrolled in this program in 2011, planning to get a 2nd masters - but didn't last the semester. The prof for one of my two classes assigned the entire online class into groups of 4-5 students with all major grades, assignments, and papers turned in by group. We were not informed of this "cohort" approach beforehand so none of us had any idea that we would be writing academic papers as a group - and trying to do this all online. It was a pretty selfish move on his part as he was able to drastically reduce the hours spent grading. I experienced many glitchy issues with this online platform which resulted in lost assignments and data. There was also a surprise expensive textbook that was assigned after the class began and my only option was to purchase the costly e-text version. The process to purchase that was a nightmare, too. Halfway through the semester, I decided that this program was just not worth all the stress and tech problems - and that my one MA degree as good enough.

Both deans are horrible and have agendas. They hire subpar professors and they are not held accountable to their standards. I almost put one on a wall via his throat for touching my shoulder without my consent. Only here for a certain program. You're better off skipping this university and spend your money elsewhere.

It depends on which major you are studying for!

It depends on which major you are studying for!

To me, UHCL professors are so nice, knowledgeable, and reachable. You can easily spot them out where they are on the campus and ask whatever comes to your minds no matter if they are academical questions or your private daily life questions.

Student life is also very interesting too. Library on campus is not big as other universities that I have known but it's awesome. Especially, electronic library is fantastic. You can access most of valuable or necessary documents needed for your study.

Moreover, there are a lot of scholarships that you can ask for during your study. Even if you don't meet scholarships requirements, just submit it then they will put you into consideration!!!

The campus natural environment is so wonderful. You even can see deer, or even alligators somewhere on the campus too. I have seen some!!!

Many professors have been working for NASA, LookHeed Martin, TI, etc. So, you will have chance to experience their real projects and get the most practical knowledge if you are studying for any of technical majors. Non-Technical majors are also good, too!

I like that the school have academic honesty that make you can't cheat even if you take online classes. Not like some other uni and college have so many students have 4.0 gpa but don't know anything. I like that the school make it fair for every student doesnt matter if online or campus. The school system make you work hard and earn your grade. It's good school for ESL students like me because study hard make me get better in english. The school is not overprice like UH.

I recently received my Masters in I/O Psychology h...

I recently received my Masters in I/O Psychology here. This is a not-so-typical state university located in the suburbs of Clear Lake. I cannot speak for other's experiences at UHCL but you do get your bang for your bucks here. There are currently 3 professors for the I/O Psychology program with each professor offering their unique talents and expertise. The MA in I/O Psychology program focuses heavily on the scientist- practicitoner model, ensuring that you are able to take what you learn and transfer your skills into the workplace.

The campus is certainly small and beautiful. It is built on a nature preserve and you have to understand the history of the school for you to truly appreciate it. Lockheed Martin, Boeing, SpaceX, NASA and numerous other big name companies are all located around UHCL. My classes were all at night (between 4pm to 10pm) so you see all sorts of critters running around (Deer, squirrels, raccoons, possums, etc.). Since it is the suburbs, having a vehicle is a necessity. The campus is small, but it is building quickly after accepting its first batch of freshmens in 2014.

I can understand why some people bash the school since they may have got tied up in the tedious application/financial aid process or those who envision a Tier 1 university and did not properly research the school. I assure you this school is moving in that direction but it may not be as soon as you think. This was certainly a perfect school for me since i needed a much more quiet environment that focused solely on academia. I am too easily distracted if there are daily pep rallies and games/events on the weekend. Please do your research and visit the school if you plan on attending. This school may not be a perfect fit for everybody, but it was a perfect fit for me.

1. Library 2/5 (not 24 hrs and not separate independent building)
2. Parking 5/5 (always available parking and cheap passes)
3. Programs 4/5 (UHCL still developing)
4. Facilities 5/5 (beautiful)
5. Safety 5/5
6. Frat/sorority life 0/5
7. Sports 0/5
8. Surrounding community/night life 0/5 (doesn't exist but i love it)
9. Recreation Center 1/5 (needs a larger independent building)
10. Cafeteria 1/5 (no comment)

Overall 5/5 for the program, friends, affordability and opportunities UHCL has provided me. I certainly achieved the results I wanted from UHCL. Cheers!

As a transfer from UH main to UHCL I DO NOT REGRET IT! I can say my experience at UH main is not even comparable to UHCL. EVERYTHING was finalized for me within a week and was able to enroll in the mini session on time. I was able to go and speak with financial aid, transfer counselor, and my college counselor right away within an hour or 2. Everything has been so easy breezy here and I'm loving it. Im loving that i don't have to make appointments for every single little thing or need to wait hours just to speak with someone in financial aid. My financial aid counselor stays in contact with me and she meets her timelines on time or earlier than expected. Im glad I transferred out of UH main. I was not enjoying the hassles I was experiencing there. I feel like I'm surrounded by adults here at UHCL not children.
