If you remotely like aircraft and technology, then this is the place. Words don't describe how huge and impressive this airforce museum is. I spent four hours there and didn't come close to reading all the placards. From the kitty hawk to F22, they have it all. US, German, Japanese and Russian aircraft, oh and missles too. Some of the planes are 6" away from each other. They shoe horn them in or suspend them from the ceilings. Oh and it's free. Other museums should take note on how to put on a display. Their collection has to be worth Billions.

I am not an aviation fanatic, but I know a good museum when I see one. And this is it. The museum is nicely laid out in chronological order. You literally walk an aviation timeline which allows you to put the displays in their proper historical context. You don't have to be an aviation fanatic to enjoy this museum. History buffs will love it.

I have been going to the Air Force Museum since I was a kid (father is retired military) and I've enjoyed seeing them add the additional hangars. Just went to the latest hangar this weekend and they did a nice job. You definitely need a full day or several shorter visits to see the whole museum thoroughly (which is easy since it's free), but it's also easy to just take an hour walk through the hangars if you don't plan on stopping to read anything (it's hard to have that self control. They have some eateries inside but nothing special. They do have an outdoor area if you want to bring your own lunch and have a picnic.

This is an outstanding museum. I spent 4 hours here during my visit, and could easily have spent another 4 hours. It is not just an assembly of US military aircraft, but of military aircraft history as well. Everything from the Wright Brothers aircraft to ICBM's to Presidential aircraft. Worth your trip if you are anywhere near Dayton!!

Found myself with a weekend in the local area, and thought I would check this museum out. These guys get five stars because I could not give them six, it is far and away the best aviation themed museum I have ever been to. If you are interested in airplanes, flying etc this is the place you need to go, come prepared to spend the day. The scope and depth of this museum is simply off the charts. The Smithsonian Air and Space museum on the Mall in DC is great, as is the even larger Air and Space Annex adjacent to Dulles International Airport in DC. Skip the DC traffic and come to the USAF Museum in Dayton, Ohio on Wright - Paterson AFB. No charge, lots of parking, easy access (military ID not required) this is one terrific museum.

This is an amazing place. Extremely clean and well maintained. Helpful staff and guided tours if you'd like to take it. Entrance is completely free! They have a nice gift shop with many interesting things to remember your visit. They have so many planes to see from WWII all the way too the modern era and even some space craft. Great place to take your family and possibly spark a fire of interest in aeronautics in the next generation. I'd also like to thank our Air Force men and women for their service.

I went with my dad and brother on vacation and it was really interesting. They are huge history/military buffs and they loved it. I thought it was cool to see all the old planes and even the plane that dropped Little Boy.

Huge! Truly an amazing mass of history. It is neat to see so many unique and influential aircraft. The simulator is fun if you can handle being upside down for a bit, or barrel rolls! The cafe had good food also. Go early in the day to avoid some of the crowds.

Soooooooo many planes. I hope you've got more than a day to explore because there are hangars upon hangars to see. If you don't have aviation inclination it might not be your jam, but it's still worth seeing, albeit for a shorter period of time.

Wow!!! This place is absolutely amazing! There are so many exhibits and items packed in to possibly view in one trip. We went on a Saturday so it was quite busy but 100% worth it. Highly recommend to anyone interested in military history or flying.

Wow, this was an amazing visit and an excellent museums. They have a lot of great guided tours you can join if you are interested in learning about a particular era. The planes themselves are just impressive. You can actually stand in the room were President Johnson was sworn in after the assassination of JFK.

absolute must for families! And its FREE!! We did eat lunch there to give some money to the museum and did the VR space simulator that was a tun of fun. Wish it was a little longer, but i would get the shorter simulation when there are a lot of people waiting.

It was a very awesome trip. There was so much to see that it took us about 8 hours to see everything. I definitely wouldn't recommend this place for people with younger children or people who don't want to spend the day learning about aircrafts. There were a lot of knowledgeable people working there who were more than happy to answer questions and give more detailed explanations on the different exhibits. It was also extremely clean everywhere including the bathroom. I plan to recommend to anyone visiting Ohio to visit this museum.

Be prepared to walk, walk, and walk. This place is spread out over a large area. The parking can be tight, especially if there is a lot of buses and/or motorhomes.
The museum has a great collection of aircraft and historical elements. It is a very nice place to go.
Best of all it is FREE. No admission charge. Courtesy of USA Air Force.

Spotless clean, friendly staff, and there is no entry cost. Amazing

This museum was absolutely amazing! I was only here for one day but probably could have spent several more. All of the different planes from WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Cold War, and today s wars told a magnificent story of aviation and mans fight for peace. Some of the coolest things there were the presidential planes, the spaceships, the WWII planes, and the amazing volunteers who could answer anything you asked them. I would definitely visit again and think this is a place people of all ages with an interest in history, aviation, communication, or all three would enjoy.

If you have not visited the Air Force Museum in Dayton Ohio, you are missing out on a truly great family experience. There is no admission charge, donations optional. Plan on multiple visits to see it all. Past to present aircraft and much, much more. This is a national treasure and are lucky to have it here. God bless all who have served.

A haven of aviation history from early times to modern. Parking and admission are free, no food or drinks allowed inside. Public restrooms and a snackbar. A fair amount of walking, there are benches throughout the museum to sit if needed. The aircraft are displayed by era, some hanging others on the ground. There are also drones and ICBMs displayed. Four presidential Air Force Ones can be walked through but keep in mind things inside are behind plexiglass and the aisles are smallish. Also, the fully restored Memphis Belle is there. History of the crafts, flight suits and gear and a holocaust display round things out. Excellent place for a day trip.

If you are not aware, this museum is free. If you ve not taken the time to visit, you should. So many Daytonians and SW Ohioans have not been to this wonderful showcase in their own backyard.
My family has been visiting this for decades, and it never gets old. You can walk and explore as much or as little as you like. If you enjoy reading, you can easily make a half or full day of it. The history contained in these 4 hangers is astonishing. The sheer size of some of the aircraft is hard to believe.
I usually plan a meal shortly before or after to avoid the pricey cafe. The gift contains plenty of trinkets and toys for the kids.
The IMAX theatre within is very affordable.
The staff is warm and engaging.

Absolutely fantastic! This museum is HUGE! There are four separate hangers completely filled with planes. From the Write Brothers military plane to the B-2. Lots of historical facts. Guided tours. IMAX theater.
I spent a full day and could easily spend another.
This museum is awesome! And the planes are organized in historical order and significance. They even have planes from Russia and a few other countries.
Well worth the time. And the cost is FREE!

An absolutely fascinating adventure through the history of American aeronautics. While I currently focuses on World Wars I & II, they're working on improving the Vietnam, Korean, and Cold Wars. Additionally, the fourth building houses old Presidential and experimental craft.

Due to the classified nature of most modern aircraft, you won't see anything past 2008. They're adding new things regularly, including flight simulations and a VR experience.

Overall, there's so much to do that you can stay open to close and never get bored.

This is the best museum to see unique Air Force fighters, bombers, spy planes and other cool aircraft and spacecraft. With four large hangars, it could easily take a dedicated enthusiast an entire weekend to get through it.

My personal favorite is the one and only XB-70 in existence.
