My husband, John, and I contracted with TreHus Builders for two major remodels of our 80+ year old house over two years. Each time brought more respect and appreciation for the level of quality that TreHus prides itself on and the beauty of their craftsmanship.
They consistently managed our projects on a timely basis, scheduling the trades, sometimes multiple ones at a time, so that we did not have to experience any down time. This was very important to us since we were living in the house during the projects and were anxious to see the results. We especially appreciated their approach of not taking the easy way out and creating shortcuts but, rather, doing what was "right for the house".
TreHus did a magnificent job in integrating the old character of the house with the new materials. Thanks to their seamless work and artful blending, we have a beautiful home that looks like it had been built this way eighty years ago! We are very happy with TreHus and recommend them highly!
We were so blessed to have TreHus work on our remodel. Our home was a real challenge and TreHus transformed the problems into solutions with their extreme professionalism, integrity and care. We love having our house completed, but actually miss seeing their amazing team of carpenters, architect, interior designer and superior project manager. Every person we worked with at TreHus and every sub-contractor TreHus sent out was a joy to meet and did fabulous work. I wish I could give you more stars! I would give the work itself a 4.8 but TreHus has been like the boyfriend that you really like and he is just not that into you. Everything TreHus does is certainly high quality and beautiful (like the handsome boyfriend) but when it comes time to finish the job, well, he's already moved on.
We contacted TreHus as they came highly recommended from our neighbors. First meetings went great and we enjoyed the commitment to detail, vision, and willingness to get the job done in the highest quality. We so appreciated all of those things! All of the work they did was outside and the work was quite extensive as well as very expensive. We understand that to get the kind of quality that we want, we have to pay.
Let's just say that the pandemic has been difficult on everyone. Once construction was underway it was one issue after the next. Supplies were back ordered (thanks, Pandemic!) head carpenter got sick, delay after delay because of materials and weather (we were headed into November by the time the job was closer to finished).
November. It's now almost June and it has been on us to reach out to the project manager and get this job wrapped up. They had no problem sending us an invoice for the last part of the work but the last part of the work has yet to be done! We completely understand that there are multiple things in life that are out of our control and we have been incredibly understanding. And now we just feel forgotten.
Stone work had to be repaired as it wasn't done properly the first time. Electrical box they put in the back yard was not functional so I had my other electrician come out and fix it as I know he will show up and get the job done. The rest of the work that TreHus had promised to get done is still not done. It continues to be pushed back and pushed back.
The work is very high quality. I would never argue that they don't do a fine job with the subcontractors that they use and the work that they do (once it actually gets done!). There are some glaring issues around communication. I certainly do not feel that we were or are particularly valued customers. For the amount of money that has been spent, and the hand holding that I feel like I have had to do to get the job finished, I would not recommend TreHus.
Having a family of six creates a special set of circumstances when everyone needs to use the one full bathroom in the house to get ready in the morning. We enlisted the TreHus design department to help us solve the problem. After an initial meeting with Dave Amundson (owner) and his designers, my wife and I felt confident that we would see some great design solutions at prices that were discussed at the initial interview. The process that TreHus uses is different than the other contractors that we interviewed. They worked with us toward the goal of designing and building a project at a cost value that allowed the project to come to fruition.
The design process lead us literally outside the box, in the sense that by adding a dormer to the house allowed us to create significant additional space. Now our bathroom functions as three seperate rooms and therefore greatly reduces the amount of time that we use to get ready for the day. Although we had some ideas about what we wanted, we never would have imagined the layout or additional space that the dormer addition allowed. The space is a great architectural fit to the inside and outside of our 1923 home. Construction ran on time and on budget. Workmanship exceed our expedtations. It has been several years since we have improved the space but, now that a few of the kids just returned from college it reminds me that this review is long over due. Thanks TreHus!
Hiring a firm to do a large scale remodeling project in your home can be a daunting proposition. Fortunately, we were lucky enough to work with the TreHus team and would not hesitate to do so again. From the very start, with project analysis, all the way through the design and construction phases, we worked with people who truly cared about the final results and obviously valued us as clients. The team of builders and contractors who came into our home were conscientious, courteous and responsive to our requests as we lived through the process of construction. Highly recommended!
