About Transparency international
Transparency International – A Global Movement to End the Injustice of Corruption
Transparency International is a non-governmental organization that was founded in 1993 with the aim of fighting corruption worldwide. The organization has its headquarters in Berlin, Germany, and operates through more than 100 national chapters across the globe. Transparency International's mission is to create a world free from corruption where people can live their lives with dignity and security.
The organization's vision is to have a world where governments, businesses, civil society organizations, and individuals work together to fight corruption. Transparency International believes that corruption undermines democracy and human rights, distorts markets and economic development, leads to environmental destruction, and erodes public trust in institutions.
Transparency International works towards achieving its mission by conducting research on corruption trends globally; advocating for policy reforms that promote transparency and accountability; providing technical assistance to governments on anti-corruption measures; raising awareness about the negative impacts of corruption on society; promoting citizen participation in governance processes; monitoring compliance with international anti-corruption conventions; and building partnerships with other organizations working towards similar goals.
One of Transparency International's flagship initiatives is the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), which ranks countries based on their perceived levels of public sector corruption. The CPI has become an important tool for policymakers, journalists, academics, civil society organizations, investors, and citizens around the world who use it as a benchmark for measuring progress in fighting corruption.
Another key initiative by Transparency International is its Advocacy & Legal Advice Centres (ALACs), which provide free legal advice to victims or witnesses of corrupt practices. ALACs also help individuals report cases of bribery or embezzlement without fear of retaliation or persecution.
Transparency International also engages young people through its Youth Integrity Network (YIN), which aims at empowering young people as agents of change against corruption. YIN provides training opportunities for young leaders who are passionate about promoting integrity values within their communities.
In addition to these initiatives mentioned above,TI also works closely with businesses through its Business Integrity Programme(BIP)to promote ethical business practices.TI provides guidance materials such as Anti-Corruption Compliance Programmes(ACCP)and Collective Action Initiatives(CAI)to help companies prevent bribery, collusion, and other forms of corrupt practices within their operations. The BIP also offers training sessions for companies' employees on how they can identify red flags related to corrupt activities within their workplace environment.
Overall,TI has made significant strides towards ending injustice caused by corrupt practices globally. However, the fight against this vice requires collective efforts from all stakeholders including governments, businesses, civil society organizations, and individuals.Transparency international remains committed towards creating a world free from all forms of corruptions where everyone can live peacefully without fear or favour.
