Syiah Kuala University (abbreviated as Unsyiah) is a public university in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, which was established on September 2, 1961. The university is located in Banda Aceh, precisely in the City of Students and Students (abbreviated as Kopelma), Darussalam. In 1957, the beginning of the Aceh Province was formed, the leaders of the Aceh government, among others by Governor Ali Hasjmy, Ruler of the War Lieutenant Colonel H. Syamaun Ghaharu and Major T. Hamzah Bendahara and supported by authorities, scholars, scholars, and other politicians had agreed to lay the foundation for education development in the Aceh region.
On April 21, 1958, the Aceh Welfare Fund Foundation (YDKA) was formed with the aim of developing development in the spiritual and physical fields in order to realize prosperity and happiness for the community.

Syiah Kuala University (Unsyiah) is the oldest state university in Aceh. Established on September 2, 1961 by Decree of the Minister of Higher Education and Science No. 11 of 1961, dated 21 July 1961. The establishment of Unsyiah was confirmed by Presidential Decree No. 161 of 1962 on 24 April 1962 in Kopelma Darussalam, Banda Aceh. Unsyiah domiciled in the Capital of Aceh Province with the main campus located in Kota Pelajar Mahasiswa (Kopelma) Darussalam, Banda Aceh. Currently, Unsyiah has more than 30,000 students who study at 12 Faculty and Post Graduate Program.

As one of the higher education institutions, Unsyiah has a very strategic function in improving the quality of human resources, both for local, national and regional needs. As a university of the Heart of the Acehnese People who prioritizes quality, Unsyiah integrates universal, national and local values to produce human resources that have alignment within science and technology and IMTAQ. Balance between the two become the main component in producing quality human resources, virtuous character, uphold ethics, aesthetics and noble character.

Beginning with the establishment of Yayasan Dana Welfare Aceh (YDKA) on April 21, 1958 which was formed to hold development in the field of spiritual and physical to achieve prosperity and happiness for the community. YDKA develops programs, among others: (a) Establish student camps in the provincial capital and each district city within the territory of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam, (b) Encourage the establishment of a university for the region of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam. In harmony with the idea, dated June 29, 1958, the Aceh Warlords of the Special Region of Aceh formed a PLANNING COMMISSION AND CREATOR OF STUDENT CITY / STUDENTS. The Commission regarded as YDKA's sibling has the duty of commission of creator, body of thinker, and inspiration for YDKA, so that this commission is seen as the main capital of the development of student campus.
