WCATY has long been an advocate for gifted and talented students in Wisconsin. As a GT coordinator, I witnessed phenomenal growth from students I recommended for WCATY summer programs. As a parent, I was grateful that WCTY provided opportunities for acceleration and intellectual stimulation to my own high ability son.
My children have attended WCATY summer programs for years, and have had amazing experiences -- talented instructors and highly energized peers. This one week was the highlight of the year for them!
This class is making me go insane. Absolutely terrible, to much work for the time periods they give you. One week for 5 assignments?! It s crazy, and they think a group of students! If you have a choice don t sign up!
hate it gets me better grades but it's really pressuring and I have cried of stress because of this course its a little too overwhelming but gets you good grades some times i don't sleep a lot because of the assignments
This course was very fun and interesting. My teacher was super nice and would respond quickly, helping me with all of my issues. I enjoyed interacting with my class both online and off. I recommend you try this out if you are asked to do so!
If I could rate this "academic" program a 0 I definitely would. This course has turned a school loving girl into someone who dreads waking up everyday solely because of WCATY. The advanced students who get put into this program have no say over anything. If they want to leave the program they have to leave the advanced class, and for some people that is not an option due to personal reasons. In return for not being able to leave, you get hours of homework per night, sleep deprivation, no mental ability to do anything, and a strong urge to just say screw it and drop out. I have stayed up till 6am in the morning on a school night just to finish my WCATY, and when I finally went to bed I wasn't even finished. The workload that they give you along with the amount of time they give you to do it is absurd. This course has drained me physically and mentally. I have had to see social workers on multiple occasions and have even bought caffeine tablets just to help me stay awake to pursue my studies. I don't think that they take into consideration that we have actual lives and other homework to do when they are planning out our weekly assignments. My anxiety levels are through the roof because all I can think about everyday at every moment is WCATY and the amount of homework I could be doing at that moment. Now you might be wondering if we are managing out time well, we are. As 8th graders we are all doing a phenomenal job trying to juggle everything at once. Our first week of assignments we were given were just thrown at us. We had no time to prepare or even think about how we were going to manage it. Coming back after a stress free summer break just to have WCATY shoved back into out faces once again was not the most eazy experience. Everyday I walk into my adv. ELA class with the shakes, anxiety spasms, and a heartbeat so fast it could win a race all because of past experiences with WCATY. If you have any choice whatsoever, please do not enroll in this class.
I have worked with the program as an instructor, teacher, coordinator and parent. WCATY is a program that has offered numerous students the opportunity to meet with peers who enjoy learning and exploring as much as they do! It is a cool thing to be able to call yourself a "WCATY kid"! From the courses to the camps, WCATY is one of the best opportunities for students who want to learn and better themselves and further their education and opportunities!
WCATY is an amazing experience with thoughtful curriculum that is very engaging for the talented youth of Wisconsin. It offers unique opportunities for abstract thinkers that are inspiring.
As part of the Wisconsin Association for Talented and Gifted (WATG), we always recommend WCATY programs to parents who seek out challenging and rigorous programming. Wisconsin is very lucky to have this prestigious center, thanks for all you do for our GT youth!
WCATY is an amazing organization for gifted and talented students. I spent 6 wonderful summers as a camper and another 6 on staff. It is full of caring people who love what they do and work hard to ensure each student has the best possible experience. I cannot recommend this organization enough.
WACTY has been a great influential force in my own children's lives. It pushes them out of their normal and helps them to think in new ways. I am amazed at the growth that I have seen in them in just a few summers. I would recommend this to any other parents who want their children to be more agile for today's working environment.
WCATY is really helpful for learning more things about writing and Language Arts. the work can be fun but it is a lot of work and we have a lot of confusing assignments every single week.
My duty as a father of a very smart middle school daughter I spend a lot of time researching quality programs for her. If you are a parent wanting a high quality camp then look no further. WCATY is one of the best centers in our region.
The course was okay for me. I think that it was confusing in all, but it was fun too because I got to be with my friends. And of course it would be confusing and difficult, but it was for a challenge.
As a former employee, I know that the WCATY summer programs are amazing experiences for students. Students and staff come back year after year, because it is an intellectual home for them.
The WCATY summer camps were phenomenal experiences for me as a student. I refer multiple students every year, and they all have had really positive experiences! 10/10 would recommend.
Seems like the summer camp is fun, but I cant say the same of the inline course. There is no flexibility in the schedule. One week we had 2 days to work on 3 assignments.
