Nice stay. Good food. Good staff. Rooms are starting to feel worn, could do with an update, but would stay again.

We had a lunch, which was fine. The cauliflower soup could have done with being a little warmer but it tasted lovely. Our fish and chips were very nice. The staff were friendly and efficient. The restaurant is very modern and 'trendy', not in keeping at all with the original part of the hotel. The toilets were a bit of a distance away, down some stairs too - not great if you have difficulty walking.
A lovely intimate place for a gorgeous afternoon tea. Staff very friendly. Good prices and great location.
A modern, pleasant atmosphere for an evening drink next to the sea.
Really helpful staff. Clean and modern. Good value. Very good location with plenty of parking and sea views. We ate in the onsite restaurant Sea Spice which was extremely good food.
Great food, brilliant staff, a warm welcome and lovely place for lunch, tea. Two restaurants, both are great. fish was spot on.
Tried their new Indian restaurant and some of the best curry I've had.
Well staffed , clean and comfortable. Really enjoyed the breakfast.
Just got back from weekend break at the white Horse Aldeburgh after a bit of a mishap when checking in which mark the manager handled very well thanks Mark we had a lovely time the staff are amazing so lovely and attentive and friendly nothing was to much trouble the food was amazing we had dinner there both nights our sea view room was very comfortable with lovely views we found the hotel had a lovely relaxed feeling we are going back in July can't wait
Traditional old hotel, superb location right on the sea-front. Contemporary styling in public spaces, bedroom rather conventional but comfortable. Had to pay a bit extra for the sea view room. Excellent food in both the restaurant and Sea Spice, the attached Indian restaurant.
Excellent place to eat and stay, up there with the best
This hotel is really good and staff here are really nice and friendly here too which helps
Very friendly and accommodating staff. With lovely comfy rooms. And great food
Nicely presented and cooked Sunday lunch in the Blue Brasserie with very attentive service.
A bit expensive but not bad room. Food not bad breakfast very good. Perfect services. The Indian restaurant in the hotel is very good. You can park for free in front of the hotel. I wanted to put 4 stars but the service was really top.
Just a drop in to purchase some vouchers. Excellent staff and customer service.
We popped in for a quick bite and drink. It did these well. It has a nice restaurant that you can are best to book. It's across the road from the seafront. There is free parking outside although this is very limited. There is a pay and display 10 minutes walk away.
Stopped in for a coffee in the lounge during an afternoon walk on the beach. It was lovely. Can't say much else about the place than that.
Superb hotel right on the seafront in Aldeburgh. Very clean warm rooms with tea, coffee, hair dryers etc. Old fashioned plumbing in the bathrooms more than made up for by bags of character and helpful attentive staff. Good food and drink in the brasserie at a reasonable price. Sea view rooms worth the extra. The odd steps on the landings not great for disabled but the helpful staff arranged an easy access room on request. Great hotel.
Great service, and venue does not look much from the outside but nice restaurant inside. The roast dinner was excellent, let down by the starter. If booking the restaurant ask if you can use the hotel car park.
We ate at the Sea Spice restaurant and it was excellent - a fine example of a new and more sophisticated type of Indian restaurant. All of the food was delicious, and - although more expensive than usual - worth every penny.
Very good nice location comfy room fog friendly too
Lovely hotel. Friendly staff. Gorgeous location. Nice breakfast.
Pleasant staff, good restaurant for the evening meal, period building with character but our room was nicely refurbished. Front rooms give good views over the parked cars to the shingle beach, boats and huts. Only problem is the water: the hotel softens it so that washing soap off is almost impossible - which some people might like?
Not quite as good as last time, the restaurant looked a little tired but could quite easily be updated. Food was good, beer excellent. Could have been improved by more staff for servicing customers and an air freshener in the restaurant.
Nice old fashioned place. The bistro menu is pretentious and on the expensive side without the ambience to justify it.
It is a very comfortable hotel with a very good restaurant with very friendly and efficient employees and a spectacular sea view,
This is my hotel of choice when visiting on business. Parking aplenty on the street/seafront. Others I work with prefer the more modern Brudenell. Good size rooms, choice of two restaurants, three if you count the one at the Brudenell - same owners. Breakfast starts at 7am which is useful.
Love this hotel. Avoid the Indian resturant which is attached to hotel. Bad food and service, and quite expensive.
The White Lion hotel is in a good location across from the beach and close to shopping and dining. the hotel staff was very courteous upon check-in. I made reservations online and I made them for one day earlier than I should have "my fault". The woman at the front desk said this is no problem and she would change the dates to allow for me to use my full four nights I paid for "this was nice because the room was $160 per night. At this point I went ahead and checked in and proceeded to my room. The room was very small as there was barely enough room to put my luggage. The room was outdated, the TV was small and several years old. I was in the room no longer than 10 minutes and I got a call on the house phone. The front desk told me I needed to come down right away to discuss my reservation. I went back to the front desk and they told me they could not allow me to stay as they had stated earlier, this was a bit of a let down after seeing the room and feeling like it was not worth the price I was paying. It seemed as if after I had checked in the hotel staff was no longer as courteous. I ended up checking out a day earlier even though the room was paid. If you are planning on staying more than a night, I would recommend contacting a local realtor they have many local cottages that are much nicer and include cleaning and all the amenities.
Good place if you love doing stairs up and down and up again even after using a kind o f escalator. Otherwise: an axcellent place with good service.
Brilliant place staff helpful restaurants can't fault
Happy to go back
Lovely hotel, smart, comfortable with friendly staff and right on the beach. The restaurant serves excellent dinners and a freshly cooked quality breakfast, no luke warm food on buffet trays here. Car parking at the front of the hotel is free and the town is only 5 minutes walk away.
Very cosy place, the afternoon tea is delicious ! The view is great as well. Great service, I loved it.
Old style hotel but very well refurbished. very pleasant atmosphere. Small room but very comfy. Good bed.
English breakfast was ok , although not memorable.
Such a shame had high hopes but service really not up to scratch. Top tip book early for breakfast, on our first day we opted for 9.15, table not available, asked to wait and then forgotten about. Service painfully slow did not get out till near enough 11.00
Very pleasant hotel. Staff are very friendly good food. Excellent location on the front in Aldeburgh.
Enjoyable stay. Room comfortable and breakfast superb. Recommend the bar / restaurant. Staff helpful and friendly. 5 stars
Cheerful staff, Amazing food, cosy relaxed atmosphere, 50 paces away from the beach, beautiful central staircase, and a wonderful area.
Have had an enjoyable stay. Food is excellent and bar has nice atmosphere. Friendly and efficient staff with some knowledge of the locality. Parking can be a bit tiresome but you manage. I think some locals use it, which means it is less easy than it would otherwise be. Nice little town and the White Lion is in a good location. Breakfast is served to you - unusual nowadays. It is truly excellent.
Comfortable rooms, quiet location and friendly staff. I've been coming here since 2015 on business and have always had a good stay.
Stayed for 3 nights in September, surprisingly good weather helped!! Room was large, bed enormous and comfortable. Bathroom adequate, tea, coffee, water and biscuits all provided. Strict covid measures in place but soon got used to them. Free hotel car park, couldn't always get a space but free parking at front of hotel, so no problem. Every staff member we came across was friendly and helpful. Bar was a great place to start the evening, nice cocktails. Breakfast was included in the package. All table service now, really good quality food, good range too. We really enjoyed our stay here.
Afternoon tea was lovely. One of us was GF and was catered for very nicely. Top ups for tea and coffee was excellent as was the food. Will go again.
Popped in for dinner after a day out on the coast. Very nice location in the seafront. Really helpful and friendly staff. The pigeon pate starter was great, however the Steak I choose as a main while still great tasting was very small and came with a single mushroom and half a tomato. I ended up stealing some of my girlfriend's much more generous portion of fish.
Arrived without a booking, but the staff found us a table. The waitress was friendly and professional. We only had a main course, we looked at the sweet menu, but to be honest, we couldn't have any as we were full! Shame, I have a sweet tooth!!!! Staff were great, and the food was hot.
Nice restaurant and bar. Good food. Good customer service
Great staff. Sea view rooms vary in size so worth checking. Could have been cleaner and disappointing charging arrangements for the inclusive evening meal deal.
Don t stay here, really don t. So unfriendly, unhelpful staff and facilities. Although there is a virus which makes everything different the hotel give every impression guests are really not wanted here.
The hotel advertises Private Parking yet has only space for 10 cars and has more than 30 rooms.
We arrived early but were not offered any help with leaving baggage while we went in search of parking which was very difficult to find.
Nothing was done to make us feel welcome, a really awful hotel.
Meal was nice but plates were not delivered to table together so food got cold whilst waiting for others.
Food was good but felt one of the waitresses could have smiled more.
23rd November 2019.
Went back again and this was the most appalling service I have encountered in a restaurant.
After 28 mins and 2 reminders that we had not been served the drinks we ordered, we decided to leave.
We paid for the starters we had ordered and consumed, but they
even tried to charge us for the main courses.
There was no real apology and it appears we were not the only ones that had an issue with the non delivery of drinks.
If you are not concerned about service and having your first drink with your bill then this may be for you.
May I recommend the staff have a lesson in service and that customers are what keeps a business going.
Latest rating one star.
Will never visit again.
Reviewing the restaurant. Good home made food, friendly staff. I recommend the fish pie!
We visited with friends and dogs for a meal when it was newly opened after lockdown and it was immaculate and well organised. We ate fish and chips in a lovely courtyard. The food was lovely and the service great.
Coffee in the bar overlooking the beach. Very lovely.
First time to The White Lion Hotel, stopped by on the off chance for evening meal, cheerful welcome from a member of the staff, restaurant well set out, not a large menu, food was very good at reasonable prices.
Would recommend.
Lovely hotel staff food rooms..... well worth a visit
Stayed a few times . Love it . We had room 26 . Fantastic sea view. We will be back
Lovely Hotel, pleasant staff, good food, good beer and a great nights sleep. What else could you ask for!!
Enjoyed a freshly made afternoon tea, it was amazing!!!! Thank you for a lovely day
