Lovely rooms, especially if you can get a sea view. Location is central to the beach, restaurants, cafes and shops. We used it as a base for cycling and running, and the location was perfect.
The two in-house restaurants were very impressive, we particularly liked the Indian themed Sea Spice restaurant, certainly not your typical curry house.
The staff were attentive and friendly. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be going back.

Great location within stone's throw of the beach and wide virtually un-obstructed view of north sea from rooms with a sea view.

Excellent Breakfasts and plenty of choice on offer. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Good free car parking.

A very lovely stay. My partner and I stayed here for our 10 year anniversary, and it was certainly a memorable one! The room was impeccably clean, the staff were superbly friendly and everything was excellent!

We didn't pay for a sea view room, but the view from our window was overlooking some pretty quaint seaside houses, and the sound of swifts in the evening sun was enough to send me off to sleep! Bathroom facilities were amazing; spotless and the shower was pretty decently powerful too.

Dinner was the real star of the show here. I had some seafood that was caught literally down the road, and it tasted phenomenal. Hats well and truly off to the chef. Breakfast was no different, the sausages were out of this world, and the poached eggs? Forget about it. Cooked to perfection!

Overall, a tremendous place to stay. We would certainly go back! I have paid far more for far less at other hotels. This was top notch. Well done all!

Great location on the beach front, parking free but pot luck for a space. Good restaurant, menu looks good but we didn't eat there except for breakfast which was very good indeed. The room, which was an inland room, was cosy or small, dependant on your point of view. Friendly service, overall a reasonable stay for a single night.

On our first evening in Aldeburgh we needed somewhere to have a meal after a 250 mile journey. The White Lion looked a nice place. We had no reservation but got a comfortable booth for the four of us. The food was good and the staff were friendly and efficient. A place we would recommend.

We came back to The White Lion to celebrate our Ruby Wedding Anniversary as we had spent our wedding night here all those years ago! We spent a night here for our silver wedding anniversary too and had often had lunch here over the years for other wedding anniversaries and I think the place improves every time! This time I can only put it down to Mark the very efficient, friendly and approachable manager. He doesn t ponce about it a suit looking all important but gets stuck in like the rest of the amazing staff. He is genuinely interested in his guests so it rubs off on his staff who are all very friendly and helpful and even left us an anniversary card in our room! We stayed in room 12A, aka 13, which was wonderful! An enormous bed, a stunning view out to sea, a brilliant bathroom with a roll top bath and a huge shower! A well stocked hospitality tray including biscuits and hot chocolate, luxurious bath robes and a mini fridge! We went down to dinner and sat by the window and chose from the extensive menu - Welsh rarebit for starters then mutton for me and beef for my husband followed by gateau for me and date and banana steamed pudding for my husband - all of which was delightfully presented! After a most comfortable night we went down for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised to find that we were served a fresh choice of breakfast at our table as there was no buffet - a great service! We had a very reasonable dinner, bed and breakfast deal. We would definitely recommend The White Lion and we will certainly be back! I m sure it was nothing to do with being in room 13 but we got a puncture on the way to Southwold which resulted in my husband having to change the tyre!

We had a very happy stay here in December 2017. Age-wise the place is a little tired (try not to look at the carpet, the bathroom is very bare, the towels are quite rough, etc.) but the food was good, the staff were professional and friendly, the room was spacious and the beds were comfy. We'd definitely stay again.

My wife and I recently stayed for two nights ,unfortunately we thought it was very overpriced.
Nice spacious room overlooking the sea,but the decor is very tired and dated, piece of biscuit on floor from last guests, toilet seat loose, curtains hard to close, towels not white .
No nice touches for the money we paid,on a positive note all the staff were very polite and friendly.

3* Hotel with a relaxed atmosphere, although probably to be expected in early January! Deserves the 3* rating, although some upgrading is required. Double glazing and power showers would have been nice. However, all of the staff were friendly, the food was good and they let our dog come with us. Overall decent value for money.

SPENT A MORNING IN THIS WINDY COASTAL TOWN celebrating my husband's birthday. Prestige hotel, excellent decor and a beautiful floral arrangement of South African fynbos and Proteas at reception.
The starters were delicious, I had the mushrooms on shortbread toast, my husband had the fried goats cheese with salad. Mains were fish and chips ( mandatory for a resturant at the seaside) and hubby had a gourmet burger with fries. The Malbec was superb and I've been drinking nothing else since. All added up to a memorable day out that I highly recommend.

the location is great, on the sea front and a quiet. their website and reception show a "Prix Fixe" menu, sort of a set menu for a fixed price, but this was not available.

the food took 45 minutes from ordering to eating. some may say this is ok, but when you're the first order, it's not acceptable. a family came in half an hour after me and had food on the table before me.An elderly couple came in, were not sat at a table so sat in the window, only to be asked to move as that table had been reserved. the gentleman stated they had reservations, the waiter said ok, but this table is not yours. the elderly couple moved and then walked out.

the room was small but clean & dated, and the maintenance could be improved, even the hallways and stairs look decrepit.

breakfast was, well, it didn't happen. I arrived at 6.55, as breakfast opens at 7. there was already a table eating so being early should not be an issue. I was not shown to a table, just asked to sit. after 10 minutes which included 2 other tables being seated, orders taken and served, I had tried to find a waiter, and even gone looking for any buffet style food, I gave up as I commence work at 7.30. the waitress then asked what was wrong, had no one taken my order. I explained how I had tried to find help, or how others were seated and served and I was overlooked. the response was, "Oh, sorry, I thought that .... would have served you".

I would not go back to this hotel, but stay next door at the Wentworth if Aldeburgh is your chosen destination

The restaurant and sitting room are beautiful and even prettier at Christmas! I had a Christmas-themed afternoon tea which was delicious and filling. My reason for a lost star was because they gave me a sandwich containing fish as part of a vegetarian afternoon tea.

My wife and I went away for the weekend and took our dog.The staff were attentive, friendly and the atmosphere was great.Room was clean - gorgeous dog bed.We had dinner in the Sea Spice Restaurant in the basement - it was superb ! I've barely had better - even in London. The breakfast the next day was equally good.Being in Aldeburgh you have to have Kippers which were immaculate. The only fly in the ointment was that I felt the place was marginally understaffed and they could have done with one or two more people to cover Dinner and perhaps one more for breakfast. However - I am not at all unhappy and would thoroughly recommend it

Great atmosphere, fantastic food, friendly helpful staff. Very accommodating walked in without booking and squeezed 5 of us in to eat even though they were obviously very busy but super fast service. We had a lovely evening. Thank you.

The hotel is in a prime location as across the road are the huts selling fresh fish on the picturesque pebble beach.
Our room was a bit on the small side but the bathroom was a good size and everything was extremely clean.
There was a good breakfast selection. The young staff were lovely and service was excellent - a well-oiled machine every morning.
