The very best waffle I have ever eaten! Initially, I thought it was too expensive--$15 for waffle, espresso and tip--but after eating it, I changed my mind. It was well worth it. The ambiance was that of a waffle house and I smelled like a waffle for the remainder of the day! They had both indoor and outdoor seating but the place is relatively small. At 11:30am there was no wait and several tables were open. They do not serve Redbulls or sodas here.

This place is amazing. Do yourself a favor and stop in!! The drip coffee is amazing, and all the waffles seem innovative and were really delicious. I couldn't get a good photo of the food because we devoured our plates too quickly...
They have really great food and coffee. The atmosphere is nice with seating outside as well. One of our party could not have the waffle and tried to order the breakfast sandwich without it. The server at first said no then figured out she could just put it on the side. There are not really any other food options here if have dietary restrictions.
Met a friend here for breakfast. It was the first time for both of us. The food was delicious and we were served quickly. It was also a nice quiet place to visit and catch up.
Where to start? I was so excited for a new breakfast place to try, especially one with "Syrup" in the title! That quickly faded when I ordered and was asked "do you want syrup with that? It's a dollar extra" ???? Now I know where they came up with the other half of their title "Trap". Next, I asked for a little cream for my coffee. I was informed that they could give me some milk but they don't give out cream because it's too expensive! The food was average at best. Seating was cramped and uncomfortable. You have to clean and bus your own table. I think giving one star is generous. If I could give a half star, I would
I loved it here! We came here on a Wednesday at around 9am and we were the only people there. We both got a cold brew, and I got the Leslie Knope (love the name) with lemon curd added, and my boyfriend got one of the waffle sandwiches. It was truly one of the best waffles I have ever had. Sure the prices were kind of high, but so are those at places like the Waffle Window in Portland, and I liked this place so much better (I actually went to the Waffle Window a couple days after to compare, so my opinions are fresh). The place is so very cute, there are succulents on every table, and cute litter decorations throughout, and being the only ones there, there was plenty of room for us! The two people working there were incredibly kind and welcoming, and full of great suggestions for us. I cannot recommend this place enough!!
First time there. Had the Anne Fan. Could hardly see the waffle for all the bacon on top! Tasty meal, but it was crowded tho I shouldn't have surprised on a sunny day. The pictures on the website -- what you see is definitely what you get. Take a look.
Arrived downtown early for a meeting so decided to try Syrup Trap. I tried the Audrey, a savory waffle with hazelnuts, goat cheese and a honey drizzle. It was a perfect midmorning snack.
The food, what little there was of it, was fair...I like my waffles, pancakes, French toast etc. not soggy in the middle. This was soggy, and in my opinion, undercooked. Not to mention the prices were WAY high with relation to the portion size.
Fantastic new waffle place! Savory and sweet menu choices, Organic syrup and Gluten free options. Delicious gourmet coffee and teas...all for reasonable prices! I highly recommend It! It's so good!
The syrup trap was awesome!! I took my great aunt and mom for a birthday lunch and my aunt was so glad we went.
It s a smaller space, but they maximize it pretty well with modern furnishings. It totally has the vibe of an indoor trendy food cart.
The staff was very friendly and the menu did not disappoint including my choice-The Leslie Knope (strawberries and whip cream). My Aunt got the bacon one, and my mom the Audrey with maple goat s cheese, pecans & a caramel syrup!!
They gave their type of waffles a name that was a mix with liege (Belgian waffles with sugar crystals) & brioche (they actually make a brioche dough that they put on the waffle iron ); they were so stinkin delicious!!
I highly recommend The Syrup Trap as a new fun place to enjoy regularly!!
Started with the very friendly owner?/staff? explaining the basic liege waffle. We ordered the Annie Fan and the Second Breakfast and some of their very good drip coffee.
The Annie Fan was very very good. The generous amount of bacon wasn't crispy but was very good. The maple syrup worked with the bacon to elevate the entire experience.
The Second Breakfast was yummy! The brie added a rich creaminess. Again a generous amount of prosciutto topped the waffle. My only suggestion, not complaint, was the pear. The fan of sliced pear looked pretty but was not designed to make sure you got a balance of the 4 flavors in each bite. Once I cut it up and put it under the prosciutto it was perfect!
These waffles are great! The price isn't too bad. I could come here 2 Saturdays a month easily. I had the JG2 and my missus had the Leslie Knope. The lemon curd was tasty, the blueberries were very fresh and the whip cream is house made. I had some of the strawberries on the Leslie Knope and this was not super fake sweet previously frozen strawberry mix. It was real strawberries sliced and mix with a simple syrup. So good. Although we were full from our waffles we serious considered going back for the second breakfast waffle. (waffle with brie, prosciutto, and pears).
Took my adult daughter here for a birthday breakfast. The waffles here are not the standard belgium waffles. These are a much more robust and heavier. They are fantastic. I had a cortado and it was perfect. The cafe is small and clean. Order at the counter and they bring your order to your table.
Omg amazing!!! Will be back for sure!!! The nitro non dairy chai is amazing (and I'm not one for chai), the white tea I got danced so well on my tongue we almost had to start a relationship and the waffle, that was just a bonus at that point (but was also really good).
Cooked to order waffles, light and perfect. Everything from a plain waffle to waffle sandwiches with egg and sausage to waffles blanketed in bacon. Small place. Can run a wait. But they get through people fairly promptly.
Great service, breakfast, coffee, and interior. It's an "order then sit" place where your meal is brought to you. Weekend morning street parking was pretty easy. It's a nice new interior and while it isn't a huge place, they've made great use of the space. You can grab a table or sit at the counter by the window. The waffles are a great americanized Belgian waffle with a little sugary crispness to the edges. I got the Ann Fan and bacon should be underlined because you get a lot of it. Definitely recommend.
Google suggested- and now I do. My wife had the original , I had Anne or bacon covered. I enjoyed every bit with and without syrup. My wife gobbled hers fast without syrup. We ordered prior to visit and went to the water front park. Food stayed warm great packaging. The staff missed an item accepted responsibility and made it right. They have a five star mentality.
I'm a big fan of the waffle places in Portland, and was worried in moving up to Vancouver that I'd miss out on some of my favorite breakfast places. Well, that fear has been dispelled. Delicious, generously-sized waffles with tasty toppings are now only a 5-minute walk from my place. Will definitely become a regular here.
If you need a great waffle...this is the place to go! Syrup should come with the plain waffle instead of being charged a buck,. But high quality, designer waffles.
I've only tried the sweet waffles, haven't ventured to the savory ones yet. The "Leslie Knope" (strawberries and whipped cream) was absolutely delicious! Waffle was crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside, perfect. Though, I might recommend The Syrup Trap adds more whipped cream in honor of the namesake for this waffle, as Leslie Knope would certainly want an extra helping of the goods ;)
The macchiato was very good as well. It's an authentic macchiato served in a demitasse, so don't expect a big mug with a lot of milk (get the latte if that's what you're looking for!) It also came with a small shooter of sparkling water, which was refreshing.
Overall a good experience and I'm excited to go back to try more from the menu!
The flavors are good, price is good but without the toppings and flavorful syrups the waffles fall flat. They are lumpy, grainy and bland, this goes for the gluten free and the regular waffles. My 13 year old refused to finish her regular waffle for that reason and asked to go to Hello Waffles instead.
Waffles are phenomenal! Great service. Cool concept. Nice for a quick bite, the place is a little small so it can get a bit crowded in the weekends. They even have a little kids play table, which I thought was a neat idea.
This place is very cute and quaint! You walk up to a counter to order. We went around 11:30 because apparently it's very busy in the morning. There isn't a lot of seating, so I would keep that in mind. But highly recommended! Waffles were the perfect amount! We had the Audrey and second breakfast...very good!
These waffles will totally spoil you. I could never have a batter-made waffle again. These are like gourmet pastries, not greasy or starchy. The owner is passionate about his food. Organic ingredients, really quality stuff. Not nearly as expensive as it feels like it should be. Great place, 5 stars.
I love this place man, you bored with the same old diner food for breakfast whenever you go out? Want a unique twist on one of the best breakfast items? ( everyone loves waffles) check this place out. I love the Wobble, apple pie waffle add that prosciutto on top? Forget about it, early bird gets this worm.
The waffles were fabulous! There aren t so many options that it s crippling- every item on the menu is delicious. Seating is very limited, but the food and service are worth it!
Recently discovered this little waffle shop, they have sweet and savory waffle options, coffee drinks and tea. We've tried at least 5 waffle combos and all were delicious, very friendly staff, highly recommend!
I kid you not, the maple boneless chicken wings are a blessing with every bite. I wish I could rate my experience e differently then how horrible sad I am that THEYRE ALWAYS OUT! I understand that they might just be out, but I call for a take out order and no matter if it's 40 min before close they won't make it, they're closed always, and I reallly love those wings
Really tasty waffle! You can get sweet or savory toppings. Smaller venue, but with outside seats and tables also. It was busy but the wait was not long. If you have a kid and they need to use the restroom you will have to ask an employee and they will take you, as the restroom is in another part of the building and locked, but they were great and quick escorting my desperate kid to the restroom. I really like this place!
On my gosh, what a treasure I found for my birthday breakfast! Wonderful service, great atmosphere, and waffles that are better than birthday cake...I'll be back, with many friends!
A great little breakfast and coffee spot in downtown. The waffles are some of the best you will ever have. I like the contrast of sweet and savory offerings. It is very popular with the after church crowd.
While a bit on the pricey side (especially since our Canadian dollar currently has a lower value than that of the U.S.), Syrup Trap started off our amazing food adventure road trip in the America splendidly. Warm and cozy, with interesting, delectable waffles, I fell in love with this place in a snap. From the time my wife and I walked through its doors, to the atmosphere and the service and finally the FOOD, this is another gem in the restaurant and diner world that I will never, ever forget. My wife had the "JG Squared" waffle, topped with lemon curd and organic blueberries, and she enjoyed every single, scrumptious bite. I myself had the "Audrey" waffle and it was just to die for. Who knew goat cheese, roasted hazelnuts, and honey made such a good combination?? It was delicious and paired really well with the side of bacon I ordered. I would give this place 10 stars if I could, but since I cannot, I reckon a well-deserved, glowering review would have to do. So here I am. Writing about this awesome breakfast place that you must try, try, try!
Have only been here twice, but so far, so great. First time I went, I got the Anne Fran (sp?) and was simple and delicious, topped only with chopped crispy bacon and maples syrup. Went today and had the Wapple Pie...I had been craving apple pie anyway, and this was essentially an apple pie on a waffle. The only thing that would have made it better was if I had vanilla bean ice cream to go with it instead of whip cream. After I ate that, I knew I wanted another waffle, but didn't want to seem like a pig, so I got another Anne Fran to go, pictured. Great place.
