The free lunch is good, healthy and served you at the table, with fresh flowers and a movie! (Bring your own container!)
Wonderful place with advocates to help you with almost any problem. A 10 in my book!

Maintain your pride in this well-attended food ban...

Maintain your pride in this well-attended food bank. Hampers are available to residents in the catchment area once a month, but breakfast (9:00 - 10:00) and lunch (12:00-13:00) is available Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Bring your identification (I used my drivers license with my old address and a PDF of my phone bill with my current address) to the super-friendly volunteers at the reception desk. They ll issue you a member card good for the year to collect your hamper. Volunteers and staff members are sensitive to dietary restrictions and observations.

Extraordinary - all angels walking on this planet....

Extraordinary - all angels walking on this planet. I volunteer to pick up food from here for others who cannot attend, and am always treated generously, kindy, warmly. They all should receive the country's thanks for their service to humanity.

About The Stop Community Food Centre

The Stop Community Food Centre: Connecting Low-Income Torontonians to Good Food

The Stop Community Food Centre is a non-profit organization that has been serving the community of Toronto for over 35 years. The organization's mission is to connect low-income Torontonians experiencing poverty to good food in spaces that are warm, dignified, and respectful. The Stop believes that everyone deserves access to healthy and nutritious food, regardless of their income level.

The Stop offers a variety of programs and services designed to address the root causes of hunger and poverty in Toronto. One of the organization's flagship programs is its urban gardens initiative. The Stop operates several community gardens throughout the city where volunteers can grow fresh produce for themselves and their neighbors. These gardens not only provide access to healthy food but also serve as a space for community building and education.

In addition to its urban gardens program, The Stop also operates a food bank that provides emergency food assistance to individuals and families in need. Unlike traditional food banks, which often distribute pre-packaged meals with limited nutritional value, The Stop's food bank offers fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy products, meat, bread, and other staples.

Another important program offered by The Stop is its drop-in meal program. Every day at lunchtime, anyone who walks through the doors of The Stop's main location on Davenport Road can enjoy a hot meal prepared by professional chefs using locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. This program not only provides nourishment but also creates an inclusive environment where people from all walks of life can come together over a shared meal.

Beyond these direct service programs, The Stop also engages in community advocacy work aimed at addressing systemic issues related to poverty and hunger in Toronto. Through partnerships with other organizations across the city as well as grassroots organizing efforts led by staff members and volunteers alike, The Stop works tirelessly towards creating lasting change in our communities.

Overall, what sets The Stop apart from other organizations working on issues related to hunger and poverty is its commitment not just providing immediate relief but also addressing underlying causes through education initiatives like cooking classes or workshops on financial literacy or job training skills development opportunities so people can become self-sufficient over time rather than relying solely on charity handouts forevermore!
