Visited recently with the girlfriend, friendly staff, nice building and great food. Only lacking the final star as in the bedroom the table lamps didn't work, the bed was too soft to my liking (was fine for the girlfriend) but over all place was good. Would stay there again on next trip north.

Very sweet owner with a passion for cooking. Although the restaurant looks a bit simple (almost like a youth hostel), the dinner is phenomenal. Next to the restaurant is a pub that you can walk to. We had a great chat with the locals. Scots are hospitable and friendly. You cannot escape being addressed and become involved.
The rooms are fine and clean and there is a lot to discover in the area! It is a great basis for going everywhere.

Long story short, our room's ceiling leaked majorly and completely soaked all of my husband's luggage. When I went to find someone to help (the housekeeper), she asked why we didn't use the bucket to catch the leak. I don't think it is unreasonable for a hotel guest to not expect a leaky roof. However, she was surprised because the leak was in a different place from where it usually leaks! We were told it was leaking because someone must be showering upstairs - so we had someone's dirty bath water all over my husband's belongings. I had to ask them to dry our clothes, which they did (a wash was not offered, despite the dirty water). What is even more disappointing is that no manager or owner approached us to apologize or offer to make amends, which shows they really don't care about their guests. Kingussie has many little hotels and inns, so please book elsewhere and save yourself the headache!

Original review down graded due to a repeat visit and different room. Such a contrast. Single room with shared bathroom. Lumpy mattress, sub par standard room. Wifi doesn't reach top floor. Water stained ceiling, weird lumps in old carpet. Particularly enjoyed finding strangers piss in the shared bathroom before using the facilities
---------------------------------------
Pleasantly surprised by how comfortable, clean and nice the rooms were. Great food at very reasonable prices and generous portions. Have stayed in similarly priced places nearby and this has been the nicest and best priced so far. Would definitely stay again

Food was poor and overpriced. The restaurant looked very sad for itself. The service was friendly but this didn't make up for the fact the food was substandard and slow. Don't waste your money here.

For breakfast I would even 5 stars forgive that was great. The restaurant is good. The rooms were also good and quiet although located on a stream and on the road. The pub was not that cute.

The staff are very friendly especially if you have a dog and the location is beautiful only a few miles drive from wilderness or a 20 minute walk to old barracks which look beautiful at sunrise. The room is comfortable, standard. Nothing to luxurious not untidy just standard what you would expect

The staff were extremely nice and friendly and the food in the restaurant very tasty and at comparably decent prices. They get 5 stars from me.

However the dirty shared bathroom and sweat smelling room took a lot out of our experience.

The shower - I was afraid I'll get a bug if I touch it with bare skin so flip flops are an absolute necessity. It was simply grey because of dirt and I believe it could be cleaned to a super nice standard with very little effort.

Then, the room I felt...or smelled...as if it was occupied by somebody that instead of taking a shower puts another layer of deodorant on his sweaty armpits.

Sort out the bathroom, refresh the room(s) and it will be a lovely place to stay.
Quite likely it is so if you're in an en-suite room with bathroom.

Very cozy, renovated rooms with renovated bathroom. The staff helpful. We were very comfortable. I do not put 5 stars because there was no dryer and the closet was a removable cloth. But I would definitely go back.

Was supposed to stay today but all doors were locked at noon. Tried to call and email no response. Nothing was ever relayed to me about them being closed at any time. Still waiting on response from them. Never again!

Excellent location (especially since traveling by train) beside picturesque lovely burn - calm sound of the water all night. Great value! Fantastic for walkers and visiting the Highland wildlife park. Lovely genuinely friendly staff

Last minute booking for a double room with breakfast.

The room was well presented and clean. However the window was not able to be sealed shut. Which meant that there was a howling draft all night. The blinds rattled in the draft alongside this.

Car park was not large enough to accommodate all the guests in the hotel. Conveniently the church car park was opposite and we were not visiting during Sunday service.

Breakfast was abysmal. Poor quality ingredients and very small portions did not justify the amount paid in advance. Limited cold breakfast options, poor quality instant tea and coffee, topped off with a decidedly mediocre but stingy cooked 'full' breakfast.

Would recommend this place in a pinch but advise against if you have options.

It is a simple hotel and it is OK , but I would try to avoid in the future because
- the room had a funny fishy smell
- the room was not cleaned over the day
- the matress was cheap and uncomfortable

Staff were friendly and the food was great. The theme for the night was steak, and the platters were very generous with perfectly cooked meat. I would recommend this place to all staying in the area

The Silverfjord Hotel is an old building with easy access to the train and the town. Very warm welcome but as soon as you enter your room you'll notice that it's bathroom and rooms are poorly maintained. Which was a bummer because the owner and it's staff were very kind and friendly.

The food is not bad, but might be a little overpriced.
