5 star food and service. A gorgeous, oldy worldy place rich in history and quirks. We had the 3-course menu which was cooked to perfection, presentation was stunning and the price was exceptionally reasonable. We will vw visiting again!

Attended a wedding here and stayed overnight. The Wedding went very well and the hotel was a great venue. Rooms are nice and the beds very comfortable. The parking is accessible by a rear entrance which we had a slight problem finding but this was mainly due to roadworks at the time.

This was truly the most underwhelming hotel stay and restaurant experience imaginable. In short this was the worst value for money, worst service, worst quality hotel and meal experience of my life to date.

It started well with the historic interior, but that is where the positives ended unfortunately. The hotel is simply dilapidated and the management clearly don t care about the customers. The room was a huge disappointment, with a four poster bed stuck in a odd area of the room limiting access with a couple of cheap lamps. The towel rail couldn t be turned off, nor the heating, so the room was so hot as to make it uncomfortable. The bed itself creaked with every movement while the mattress is the worst I ve encountered since my days in a shared house. The retro trouser press, scruffy furniture and poorly maintained bathroom capped off the rip-off experience.

Except the proved to be the lesser of our worries, the food in the restaurant was so appalling that it will live forever in our memory. The starter black pudding and poached egg was tasteless, no hint of flavour in the black pudding no sign of seasoning. The garlic bread with cheese was a burnt bread with two cheese squares melted on top. The main is the worst plate of food I have ever been presented with. Steak and twice cut chips was the order, hard to get wrong? The steak looked like liver, tasted like liver and was overcooked to the point of being hard to cut with a steak knife. The twice cooked chips were somehow uncooked in the centre a feat in itself. The plate also contained peas, vine tomatoes and salad leaves. Salad leaves! The salad leaves and tomatoes had some flavour. The only seasoning was salt for the chips.

Having consumed one mouthful of steak and 3 chips, I gave up with the food and shared my wife's pie which was pretty good in comparison while we waited for the waitress. We were never asked how the food was while eating, probably for a reason, when asked if we wanted desert and I replied what after you have served me the worst plate of food I have ever seen? , we got nothing no manager, no sorry, no enquiry just a quick exit. It turned out that complaining was difficult, no one was available, apparently. No feedback sought at any point, I guess for fear of the replies.

Lovely stay. Nice, frendly and professional Staff. Clean and comfortable. The only minus is that they stop serving food at 8:30pm which I think is quiet early. But I do recommend this charming hotel.

Spent five days there. Can't be faulted. Rooms are very comfortable. Staff are extremely helpful and food is first class. Plus you are in the most beautiful town of Southwell oozing with history and charm.

Breakfast was beautiful and served with a smile.

Beautiful building but we just stopped for a quick drink in the bar at the end of a family day out. WOW never thought you could be charged so much for 4 drinks. Probably that to keep out people who aren't staying the night.

Ordered fish and chips, and steak and ale pie. Bar staff forgot to send order to kitchen and I had to chase it. Minimal apology or concern. Order arrived with wrong veg but we were so grateful to get it we didn't pursue. Food was good when More

Booked for lunch after a wedding vow renewal and received a confirmation email but turned up to be told it was shut. Absolutely appalling service that totally ruined a special day. No call or contact to say it was closed. Luckily were able to get a table at the Admiral Rodney who were lovely.

This was hotel was so disappointing. I had expected a dated hotel, given the age, but the rooms were so tired looking. The bathroom looked like no repairs had been carried out for decades and really wasn't that clean. Paid extra for a four poster room, but the bed had been wedged in to an alcove so there were no bedside tables. The bed itself creaked so bad we dare not move and was woefully uncomfortable.
The bathroom was hotter than a furnace and the radiator could not be turned off.

The restaurant was TERRIBLE. The worst meal we've had out, since I can't remember when. A rib eye steak that had the texture of grilled liver, but with less flavour, and soggy under-cooked (twice cooked?) chips.
Didn't brave breakfast.

Not one member of staff enquired how our stay had been, or asked if we had enjoyed our meal.

Overall, this ruined what was a treat I had booked for my husband's birthday. I emailed the hotel to complain, seeing as none of the staff asked, but they've not replied.

A wonderful historic building hosts this comfortable hotel. The staff are t treasure too, friendly, efficient and very helpful. The restaurant food and wine are excellent and reasonably priced and the inclusive breakfast both excellent and locally sourced. The rooms are comfortable, although as with all buildings a few centuries old there are a few minor maintenance issues. Very good value for it's moderate price.

After a wonderful visit to the Southwell Workhouse, a visit to the Minster and a couple of hours browsing shops on the High Street, how delightful it was to relax in the lounge with a refreshing pot of tea. Such friendly service.

We stayed there in May this year and were very impressed - the hotel is lovely and the food in the restaurant was some of the best I've had for a long time - well presented and perfectly cooked. The staff are all great too! It would be 5 stars but for the bar which is small, characterless and quite expensive. There are some great pubs nearby though!
