Lovely pub, friendly staff and very nice food. A whole good experience. Would definitely return.
Lovely pub, friendly staff and very nice food. A whole good experience. Would definitely return.
Food is excellent and reasonably priced, but service can be exceptionally slow, waited an hour from arriving at restaurant until food turned up ! Do not recommend the draft bitter, never had a decent pint ! More of a restaurant than a pub
Excellent food and scenery. Love the new look. Definitely coming back again.
Quite cozy, the food is reasonably priced and have a decent quality. The interior design has a yellowish charm whereas the back garden is not as nice. The staff are friendly.
A lively pub with good food and friendly staff who work hard at the detail. Well worth visiting if you are in the area or just passing through.
I really like this place and go a lot. It's not gormet, but the specials are invariably great and the salads are reliably delicious. Also their Ciabatta range is all delicious
Fairly average Sunday lunch. Pub looks like it caters more to regulars. Waitress was lovely, but the manager seemed a bit harassed.
Absolutely fantastic. Pub is stunning, food to die for, and exceptional service. Definitely worth the hours drive. Many thanks.
This was the reply we received to our review of a poor experience,
It is entirely wrong every point, it was not a week night, we never mentioned a birthday it was in fact our anniversary. It was exactly as we described it, we were not miserable at all. It was our 2nd time, we were giving them a 2nd chance, clearly there wont be a 3rd. We did not have to make any effort into counting the diners/drinkers, there were so few. There are so many much nicer places very near so why would we bother. I think your reply expresses your whole attitude both in review and in house.
Very nice, and clean place. Specially this time, they taking care of all the rules. Great portion sizes, the food was delicious. Definitely come back again!
Great food nice place, I would visit again its better than average
Love the fish and chips here.early bird menu good.Very clean and pleasant place to eat.
A beautifully run establishment nestled in the Kidlington borders of the Cherwell and Thames Valley. Lovely friendly staff, a great selection of quality drinks and a menu to suit all the family. Ideal for a quick bite, a special occassion or a family meal out. Decorated in a classic pub style yet with its own unique take. I will be going to the Royal Sun again soon. Loved it!!
Wonderful Sunday lunch with efficient friendly staff, highly recommended
Very good service.
Adults had great food from the specials board.
Teenage children had baguette and burgers from the normal menu.
All good portions and very tasty.
The food was sublime. My half-duck with courgettes, potato with cheese and vegetables had a superb taste and texture to it. My partner's likewise, who chose slow cooked BBQ ribs, found that the meat simply came off the bone, and was tender to the touch. A nice little place for anyone passing by.
Tasty Sunday roasts, beef and pork. Dessert was very good too but ate it too quick to take a photo!
Probably the best food I have eaten to date. We expected a normal bar meal from this establishment as it looked from the outside as a traditional lovely English pub would but what we got instead was a 5 star exquisite tasting meal I would expect to get in a high class top end restaurant. Incredible. I don't think I have ever tasted a blood orange sorbet to rival the one made here. Together with the vanilla cheesecake, it was an experience I don't think I will find again. Thank you so much for such an amazing culinary delight.
Good service and food. Able to accommodate a large group on a Sunday without any hassle.
Charming place, upmarket pub. Food was excellent. Will go again if in the area.
We had a lovely lunch for a family birthday the food was very good and the service excellent would definitely recommend
Excellent food and service in very convivial setting. Highly recommended.
Cosy atmosphere, nothing was too much trouble and the food was excellent. We had proper steak and ale pie to die for, mash, braised cabbage and lovely gravy.
We had soup and a pudding as we intended having a meal in the evening. Both soup and pudding were presented well and were much appreciated. We will return to enjoy a meal from an interesting selection.
Great food! Nice atmosphere and friendly staff! Lovely terrace and plenty of parking spaces. Charming 17th century pub and spotlessly clean throughout!
Sunday lunch was great, service was quick and staff were very pleasant. Afterwards we enjoyed a coffee in the outside seating area.
First time back after lockdown, there were plenty signs to indicate the one way system and it was clear how to order. I went there with 2 friends of mine to have stake on Wednesday, huge complement to the chef. Plenty food on the plate we couldn t finish all.
The staff always very friendly and despite the busy time the owner and the bar attendance had time to chat to us (from distance).
I would highly recommend this hidden gem, not only worth for money but positive atmosphere and well looked after all the time.
Brilliant food, good service, really enjoyable experience.
Went there tonight for a change and the food was lovely.
Lovely food, and lovely atmosphere. Will have to try more menu options to ramp this up to 5 stars. But very, very good
Great friendly service. The food was great, big hearty servings.
gorgeous food, great service, location is good too. have been before and always lovely food
Miserable landlord, dreadful food, overall a very disappointing birthday meal. Says a lot when the place is empty at 6.30pm and only about 12 in the whole place by 8.30pm.
Great food in a pleasant environment. I would recommend this pub restaurant. It has not always been a "go to' place but has improved a lot.
Amazing pub!! We found this little gem on our way to Blenheim palace and was such a delightful surprise! Food was great, environment super cosy and inviting. The service was just AMAZING really welcoming and fast! We will definitely be coming back!
Excellent food, good service. We called last minute and they took ok the booking.
Food excellent, but funny taste with moreti beer? Mentioned it and lady behind bar all beers were a bit frothy and left it not happy?
Great pub with good Sunday roast and decent price for a proper size plate. There is two meat and three meat options for the roast and it's the first time I came across with and I loved the idea.
Food excellent, service excellent. Lovely 17th century inn.really worth a visit
Lovely meal with family, great food and drink at a very reasonable price. A+
A nice period pub with good parking. Food was very nice. Curry, burger, pie & steak nights during the week.
Very good food in a newly refurbished clean gastro pub. Value for money. Recommended
Sunday lunch came quickly. A little too quickly. Very manufactured and bland. Could do better.
Lovely experience. Great food and great service from the server and manager.
Visit here for your Sunday Lunch after you visit Blenheim Palace.
The food was excellent! Staff very helpful and friendly.
A nice warm atmosphere. I had the burger, which I thoroughly enjoyed. My companions all had the pie, and likewise very much enjoyed it.
Excellent and convenient gastropub on way from Oxford towards Blenheim Palace. Superb veggie options; daily specials also available and there are Sunday roasts. Great beer. There's a dog-friendly garden. All in all, Highly Recommended.
Dreadful customer service! The way the manager spoke to us ( a party of 8 for lunch) was not acceptable. He behaved as if we were putting him out and were not paying customers!
Had to wait 40mins to pay and an hour to get served for food.
Certainly not going again whilst under this management.
Best roast beef around, again an excellent meal in friendly surroundings and spotlessly clean, and a good pint of Hooky.
Mark my words - "The Royal Sun"
This place is not to be missed, even if you have to drive for a while to get there.
Spotles old pub, very cosy and the food is fantastic value for money and the best I have had in England for a long time.
I'm definitely coming back next time I'm in England.
Fabulous lunch-fish cakes were delicious and sweet potato fries were amazing. All served with a smile and in a friendly atmosphere.
Lovely pub with good food. Small and personable! I would recommend.
Excellent meal and first visit, will be sure to return. Very good service as well.
Great food and top service. Highly recommended and conveniently close to the A34.
Fantastic food and service. Not keen on the welcome with children at first but they were very friendly there on in. Would happily return.
Called in for lunch but decided to leave it this time. Had a coffee instead as we were disappointed by the atmosphere in this beautiful pub. There was only one member of staff running the place and that's ridiculous. He was polite but extremely stressed and could see he was under a lot of pressure. Get at least two more staff and relax. It's one of our favourite places to visit . Spotlessly clean toilets. !
No Wi-Fi. Much improved since change of ownership including quality of food. Good variety of drinks. Owner seems a little precious over decor, worried about whether i would make scuff marks when wheeling pram into the garden. Overall nice village pub.
Good food but a bit expensive and bit of an old persons pub
Good food and atmosphere - I recommend the fish finger sandwich!
Great portion size on the Sunday roasts including the kids portion. Staff lovely and price reasonable.
No baby change in either toilet but the corridor did the job.
