Lovely cinema in a lovely town. Seeing a film (or a movie, they show those, too) at the Rex is an event. People dress nicely. There is only one screen so everyone is there for the same reason. Have drinks beforehand in the lobby. Your seat is already reserved so no need to rush in. The tables are not noisy and staff is not intrusive (as another reviewer said). But I think the best view is from the front of the balcony. Seats are very comfortable, and somewhat stadium-like so no bad views. And by attending a movie at the Rex, you are supporting a charity-owned restored cinema. The restoration of the Rex was a unique and large scale endeavor garnering the support of several members of the glitterati.

Beautiful theater but we struggled to get through the movie due to no a/c. Also the seats towards the rear make the screen look pretty small, coupled with the heat we unfortunately had to leave before the movie had finished.
Would like to thank Will though for offering my pregnant wife a cold drink as we were leaving, his assistance and helpfulness made up for the unimpressive service I received earlier at the bar where the pregnant lady who served me could hardly muster a smile and just looked like she didn't want to be there.

Lovely experience tonight at The Rex ~ nevermind what the film is, it's just a lovely experience being in a wonderfully restored Art Deco cinema. From the welcoming foyer and the friendly ushers, through to the generous comfortable seats and drinks you can take in to accompany your film ... altogether a great night out !

The Rex in Berkhamsted has to rank as one of the best cinemas in the UK. Huge comfortable seats, drinks and snacks available, table seating at extra cost, great choice of films. No wonder people queue every month to book seats.

Absolutely favourite new cinema! What an experience. Seats are the most comfortable we've ever found. The wine is lovely. Staff are great. Screen quality and sound perfect. Tickets are the same as a "normal" cinema. It feels like they really take pride in their industry there, rather than churning out rubbish for as much money as possible. Now we wouldn't go to any other cinema!

As I'm sure many of you have found. The cinema is now generally a horrible, noisy, sticky floor kind of experience. This place however is not. The staff, the venue, the seats and the people who were in the movie were all respectful and genuinely there to enjoy a film at its best. Will definitely be coming here again

I was really concerned regarding social distancing. However they have made sure precautions were in place. In my opinion they have done an excellent job. Shout out to Ruben, he is a great guy! Trust his opinion on film and beer!

What a fantastic gem of a cinema, utterly gorgeous architecture, the most comfortable seats I've ever sat in, watched a restored version of Withnail & I with glass of malbec and had cheese and crackers delivered to my table. Utter bliss. Will be coming back again and again.

It's a special experience at The Rex. Lovingly restored art deco cinema with traditional seating at the upper level and tables at the lower level. I find this cinema to be nice and spacious, and a great way to impress girls.

Have been to The Rex a few times now and have to rate it as, THE place to catch your film/movie!!
I have been trying to get in again for a while now and have had no luck so, must keep trying!!
Also took my Daughter to see a film after she had her Baby and we took him with, on the Mother/Baby day, very relaxed way to take the offspring to the Cinema, well cool.

Great place to go to. Not only all the latest films but also golden oldies and all in an old fashioned cinema. So much legroom you could almost lay down without touching the seat in front.
Totally recommend it.

My first time at the Rex yesterday to see Singin in the rain was wonderful! I honestly felt a bit like a celebrity walking up the staircase seeing the coloured lights & retro lettering. Gorgeous lighting and seating inside so comfy and roomy. Great to have a live introduction talk which gave a relaxed feel.
Thanks for a lovely evening.

Best cinema in Britain (at least a contender). You'll feel really special coming here. So plush and comfortable with a great programme, often foreign films as well as the usual blockbusters. Great value too.

I must confess every time I see a film here I have a little nap. It's just so warm, cosy and comfortable. If you do visit, please, pick up your rubbish at the end of the film, this tendency for littering in cinemas is embarrassing. If I do see you leaving a heap of garbage around your seats when the lights go up I might invite you to grow up.

Love the Rex. Beautiful Art Deco cinema. Only one screen. Recommend booking early, all the month's films are available to book at the beginning of the month. Book a table if you can. Bar upstairs and down where the tables are and drinks served in proper glasses you can order cheese and biscuits too which is lovely.

About The Rex Cinema

The Rex Cinema: A Glorious Art Deco Experience

The Rex Cinema is a unique and iconic cinema located in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire. It has been entertaining movie-goers since 1938 with its one screen set in a glorious art deco proscenium. The cinema boasts the sharpest film projection and clearest non-booming sound anywhere in the world, making it an unforgettable experience for all who visit.

The Rex Cinema is not just any ordinary cinema; it's a piece of history that has been preserved for generations to come. The building itself is an architectural masterpiece, with its art deco design and intricate details that transport you back to the golden age of Hollywood.

As you step inside The Rex Cinema, you are greeted by a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about all things cinema-related, from the latest releases to classic films from decades past.

One of the unique features of The Rex Cinema is its single screen setup. This means that every movie shown at The Rex gets the full attention it deserves without being overshadowed by other screens or distractions. This also allows for a more intimate viewing experience where audiences can fully immerse themselves in the film without any interruptions.

In addition to showing movies, The Rex also hosts special events such as live performances, Q&A sessions with directors or actors, and themed movie nights. These events add another layer of excitement to an already thrilling cinematic experience.

But what really sets The Rex apart from other cinemas is its commitment to quality sound and picture projection. Every detail has been carefully considered to ensure that audiences get the best possible viewing experience. From state-of-the-art digital projectors to high-quality speakers strategically placed throughout the auditorium - no expense has been spared when it comes to delivering top-notch audio-visuals.

Furthermore, unlike many modern cinemas which have sacrificed comfort for capacity - cramming as many seats into each screening room as possible - at The Rex there's plenty of legroom between rows so viewers can sit back comfortably while enjoying their favorite films on-screen.

Overall, if you're looking for an unforgettable cinematic experience like no other then look no further than The Rex Cinema! With its stunning art deco design combined with cutting-edge technology ensuring crystal-clear visuals & immersive sound quality – this truly is one-of-a-kind venue where every visit feels like stepping back into time whilst still enjoying all modern comforts we expect today!
