Perfect. A week in mid-September with my husband and my nineteen year old son. In the sign of relaxation (there is no entertainment, only good live music in the evening), enchanting environments, very accurate surrenders and large spaces. Ocean view room, beautiful view. Eyelet the kitchen, varied and always of quality. I recommend the a la carte restaurant because the service is much better. The restaurant at the pools only for theme dinners with buffet (very rich). Staff very kind and full of attention. A place to come back to and with an excellent value for money. Chapeau!

I made an assessment as soon as I arrived at the hotel. During the period of the accommodation had to change. The experience I had today offered by the hotel was speechless. I realized that this hotel, and especially the manager, cares very, very much about your well being and that your stay is the most perfect. Several people I know have praised this hotel, and now understood the difference of this hotel. I can say that of all the hotels I've been to (and were already many) never had a similar experience, worthy of film. Congratulations to the whole team.

Taking a vacation in Mauritius seems nice and it is !! Staying at The Residence Hotel is, for me, the best choice.
Nice, quiet, colonial decor, next to a beautiful beach, good food in The Plantation, Restaurant, great gym and SPA ... Great :-)

The Hotel Residence is a creepy, piece of a hotel, all great.
The hotel beach is very good, to take into account when traveling to Mauritius, if it is in our summer months, the west coast is better because of the wind.

The biggest issue was the food. If fine, well presented food made from quality ingredients is important factor in your holiday, you might find the experience unsatisfactory. Although the staff tried hard to make sure we are happy with the food, the food itself was just not in the level we expected it to be. Some examples include scales in fish served, sushi that looks like it was taken from a make-your-own sushi workshop, pizza that tasted like frozen supermarket private label, and more. If you stay in this hotel and looking for good food, we found the Lux hotel next door much better and slightly cheaper.

Second issue was the general feeling that the hotel is trying to squeeze money from you. As an example, we booked on a full board basis, but in reality were given a credit of 1600 rupees for diner, which doesn't cover even the cheapest starter and main in the menu. Another example is a bill of 100 Euros for two Nivea sun lotions bought in the Kiosk.

On the plus side, if you don't value good food and have lots of money to spend, the room, pool, beach and staff service are all excellent.

Beautiful oceanfront property!! Our room was fabulous! It was a ground floor ocean front colonial and it was like spending a week on the ocean - like a dream!! Breakfast was a grand spread and so was the dinner! I wish there were more vegetarian options in dinner, though!

They even offered a complimentary stay beyond our checkout time as our flight was in late evening.

The lonnnnnng beach has white sand and absolutely clean turquoise waters where you can swim safely!

The butler (Ritesh), the receptionists (Aneesh and Bhavana), Plantation restaurant captain (Radhoa), Dining room captains (Varun, Rajesh and Ally) were fabulous people.

I can suggest only one minor thing - don't charge for water bottle during lunch/dinner!!

Would definitely recommend friends/family to stay at this resort.

(Disclaimer: I do NOT know them nor I own any share of their company!!)

Nice resort with good facilities , pools gym sauna and steam room. Rooms are good if you stayed in upper floors so you can actually have a balcony for the same price of ground floor rooms. Restaurant food is good with variety in food buffet.

A hotel that leaves nothing to be desired. Very friendly staff who do everything to make every day an unforgettable experience.
Extensive breakfast buffet.
A la carte menu at lunchtime with an additional 3-course menu that changes daily.
In the evening, a daily changing themed buffet with several live cooking stations.

The food is freshly prepared and is very tasty.

Very nice, clean and well-kept beach and a spacious, park-like area.

For a longer stay, an all inclusive offer is recommended, as drinks and food are very expensive.

Very nice, reliable and helpful hotel staff from A to Z.
Many small and lovely gestures and details included, from drinking water, refreshing towels and small fruit gifts by the pool to sports activities to mobile phones that are available to you for free on the island and are already available in your room and waiting for you.
If, contrary to expectations, a wish remains open, everything will be done where possible to fulfill it.
Very clean, large rooms (thanks to our room service), safe and Wi-Fi (which, by the way, works perfectly on the whole hotel area) also included.
Fantastic, powdery and gently sloping sandy beach with nicely distributed and comfortable deck chairs.
Surprising buffet offer with weekly changing themes and there are also changes within the same theme. Fish and meat, vegetables and salads everything there and always available in appealing quality (compared to the island standard) the dinner is accompanied by piano music and sometimes also by the saxophone.
Impeccable service also with the meals, a huge compliment to the whole staff.
I would recommend half board, as the culinary offer in the area is very limited and we couldn't convince.
The general service and the many small goodies put the relatively high additional drink prices into perspective.
We were really happy and satisfied in "The Residence"!

Addendum: the last 2-3 days there were quite a few small children, the first 2 weeks were significantly quieter.

I was there with a group of friends in early October. A splendid place. The hotel is in a lovely area. The structure is beautiful. The exceptional service. All extremely helpful and kind. Great food. A single flaw: the SPA rooms are completely separate for men and donne.Lo we told the hotel staff assured us that from next year a common area (sauna, turkish bath, etc.) Will be available. It's not a crowded environment (perhaps for the cost not accessible to everyone) and so it was very relaxing. Furthermore, there are many activities that can be done at sea included in the cost of the hotel. For example, the boat tour with a glass in the center to observe the seabed. We arrived near the coral reef. I recommend doing it.
I highly recommend this establishment

Very good attention. The negative is that the days that there were few visitors decided to change the Buffett dinner by a la carte menu and very little. It really was not enough dinner. A shame. They did the same with the cleaning: the days when the number of guests of four people was reduced to make the room became only one. I think a five-star hotel should maintain its quality regardless of whether it is full or with few guests. A pity really, considering its category and prestige. We made a complaint and the only thing they offered was that we did not pay for the two bottles of mineral water that we consumed during a dinner. It was very humiliating as a tourist that response from the management of the hotel.

We have been to the Caribbean a few times and this was our first visit to Mauritius. We were not disappointed but overwhelmed by the beauty of its coastline and scenery and by the hospitality and friendliness of its citizens. The Hotel was amazing, the best I have ever stayed in and far superior in every way to those in the Caribbean. "The Residence met all our needs in luxury, attention to detail, and the hospitality shown towards us by the staff. We were given a Butler who was always on call if needed and our room was well serviced by our very friendly chambermaid who changed our sheets after so many days without our prompting. The food choice was overwhelming and of a high quality, as was the service provided by those waiting on the tables. A big thank you to all the staff who made our visit so memorable and especially to the Manager who made our last day relaxing by extending our room stay because of our late flight. I must also mention that the local agents Coquille Bonheur were excellent.

Racist, anti-Hindu establishment that targets rich Indians as clients but has institutionalised violence against hindu staff. Women are forbidden from wearing the Tika or Mangal sutra as part of "dress code". A lady cook has been laid off and despite the Ministry of Labour intervening, the cpmpany maintains its curtailing of the right of Hindus specifically to exert their religion freely. Institutions such as this are dangerous fpr the social harmony of a multicultural society like Mauritius.

Classic hotel, lack of modernity.

Classic hotel, lack of modernity.

To access the hotel's restaurants at night, men must have trousers.

Everything is far too expensive compared to the quality and quantity: two espresso coffees taken for a total of EUR 9.-, A coconut at EUR 7.-.

The corridor leading to the room is dark, placed next to the technical room, so a lot of noise in the morning.

Toilet paper very fine.

Satisfied with breakfast and the beach.
Nice staff.

Currently staying at the hotel, we have spent our first week and we are fully satisfied.
The welcome, service and availability of the staff are exemplary.
The hotel is very clean, very well equipped and we have our feet in the water. 5 steps to be directly in the water at high tide and 2 meters of sand at low tide. The hotel also has a beach a bit to the side of the hotel (this is part of the hotel).
Several visits to the SPA for one-hour hydrating massages, and here again the staff is very caring.
There is nothing to complain about, we are only on details of appreciation.

The big black point at the start of this second week is the management of children. The hot tub is invaded by children, it is no longer possible to take advantage of this space. It is a miniature amusement park. The other pools are also overrun and there are no longer any areas of serenity and tranquility. We still have the exodus to the beach.
There is a children's pool which is totally deserted a bit away from the large pool (not usable by adults, because it is too shallow).
It is of course forbidden to dive and run around the swimming pool and of course we notice the non-respect of the rules.
A certain type of clientele has arrived and the hotel no longer has the same face.
We easily give it 5 stars for the first week, but for the start of the second week we are more on 2 stars. We are clearly in a war zone :(
It is difficult to penalize the hotel of a clientele that is difficult to control, but it is impossible to recommend this place as a place of rest.
If the incivility of other customers is not a problem then go, otherwise it should be avoided.
For us the holidays are over. My noise canceling headphones won't save me.

We spent 10 days at this wonderful hotel, the service was impeccable and the concierge and top notch. Every day new little touches.

The pools are quite large and very nice. The beach is a real little corner of paradise with its staff always present to make you comfortable on a deckchair.

We highly recommend this hotel.

I feel some of the reviews are unfair. Food and drinks were excellent albeit very expensive and use of the word extortionate would not be unreasonable. Service was impeccable and although comprehension of the English language was not great with some waiters this was understandable. All staff were very obliging and humble making the stay most pleasant. Had ocean front view room which was really top notch. Beach and pool side service was great. Contrary to what some reviewers have said, you can swim in the ocean and it's not shallow. One word of advise. Do go for the all inclusive (AI) package otherwise you will get stung by the steep prices for drinks and food. With AI you have the peace of mind that there'll be no nasty surprises on check out! Also check your bills from restaurant/bar as they do make frequent errors which are easily corrected at the time. If you wish to visit the market in Flacq you'll be encouraged by hotel to take the taxi for Rup 1200. Don't ! Come out of hotel turn right and the taxi rank is 40 yards down the road will start with Rup 800. Walk further down same driver will reduce to Rup 500. Walk a little further you'll be quoted Rup 400! Also, there is a local market only 5 mins walk fro. Hotel and has most things plus bureau de change. Save yourself the taxi fare and shop locally.

We stayed at the residence in belle Mare for 2 wee...

We stayed at the residence in belle Mare for 2 weeks at the beginning of January, apart from the cyclone that haunted us, the weather was good to very good! The hotel is getting a little old, there are corners everywhere and everything seems a bit thrown together. The food is of good quality and fresh, but of course it repeats itself after such a long time as there is a buffet every evening. The majority of the employees are friendly and courteous, but not really attentive, so for example we always had to beg for our "regular" table even after 1.5 weeks. Guests who come back every year and are in the residence for a long time are preferred to such an extent that you can no longer sit down at "their" table and 3 employees run when the gentlemen come dancing, even if others were there before that doesn't matter.
The cleanliness in the rooms left a lot to be desired, at least for a 5 star hotel, as we have already seen other things. The fact that a family with a child is quartered above the bar (where it is accordingly noisy) is beyond my understanding, even if it is a "nice" upgrade.
The beach is beautiful and if you are too bored to lie around you can do water skiing, snorkelling, SUP, pedalos and much more. employ. But be careful, as soon as a small wish arises, all parasols are kept closed and woe to you if you dare to touch one. A maximum of two of the beach staff are hard-working and guest-oriented, the others (including the senior staff) prefer to rest in the shade and guard the box with the bath towels. :) Nevertheless, Mauritius is and will remain a beautiful country and the sea is wonderfully clean and warm.
