Improv really works best in small, intimate spaces, but Chicago's comedy culture has shifted to larger venues. That's one of the reasons why The Playground is a gem: the room is cozy and harkens back to improv's DIY roots. The space is like an old friend who laughs really hard at your dumb jokes and always has a cold one waiting for you. (Note: not literally, it's BYOB so you'll have to buy your own beer. Please don't sue.)

I go to mixer Mondays to practice my improv here and it's Byob. This place is the best spot to go for working out that improv mind. Not only that, but they're big about supplying a stage for beginning improv teams. Definitely a spot to hit up when looking for a show.

Home.

great

Went to Suacy Sundays improv show. What a blast! The actors were so fun and energized! It was our first time with improv and didn't know what to expect; but a great experience!!

I had the pork belly steam bun, Brussel sprouts and fried chicken and they were all amazing! Both bartenders were attentive and knowledgeable. I wish I lived here so I could come again! YUM!!!

I went to the playground with the bar set low, so I cant say they I was underwhelmed, I can say they didn't exceed my expectations. The place was basically empty, and there were as many cast members in the audience as actual guests (there were only 6 of us who paid to be in the theatre). They did 3 improv bits, I of which was pretty funny, another was bad, and the third was somewhere in the middle. I cant say I wont go back, because I had a good time, it just wasn't as funny as I hoped.

We got there early to get a good seat in the middle, but then were forced to move towards the outside to accommodate those that came in late. I was already sitting in the back and am short, so I could barely see what was going on. It kinda of made the rest of the experience a little harder to enjoy.

Ok

The Play Ground Theatre is an improv and sketch blackbox theatre that allows Chicago s comedians to perfect their not-so-mainstream comedy. Obscenities are often thrown around, and on any given night, a dance party with the audience will ensue after the shows. It s BYOB, and Wednesday nights at the Play Ground is Gimme Five a solo-comedy act where actors test out their impersonations, characters, and jokes. It s often weird, sometimes Ugly as I m referring to the time I saw a girl make out with a rotisserie chicken but always rewarding. Plus, it s $5.
