First made a weird smirk when the waiter said "sorry sir, all our meat products have to be well-done"
But then the burger was excellent :)

Superb place. We went for dinner. Excellent service by a smiling, very accomodating waitress ( makes such a difference!), very well presented and tasty food, great ambience with an interseting history to the building. Will definitely visit again Would recommend

Been twice in the last 3 weeks and something's not quite right. We loved this place a while ago, but while the food is fine, its not great. Steaks are OK. Starters are OK, service not good- okish. Such a shame.

A lovely table upstairs with first class food. The waitress couldnt do enough to help. Will most certainly return in the near future.

Excellent Sunday lunch - cooked and served to perfection. Our waitress was Sophia and she was attentive, friendly and very good in her role.

Visited for a family meal out - great food served in a pleasant environment with attentive waiting staff. The building itself has a lot of history having played it's part in the siege of Colchester during the English Civil War from which it still bears the scars in the form of musket ball holes in the timbers outside.

Went today for a Xmas lunch with a large party from work, fabulous! Friendly staff, efficient, nothing too much trouble, and great food. Well done!

We had a special birthday/Christmas meal and had booked a cabin. First time here and was not disappointed! Food was delicious and the staff were the most friendliest bunch. Will defo be back and strongly recommend it to others.

We stayed just down the road and saw this restaurant as we drove past. It looks quite impressive from the outside.

We were almost out of luck because we walked in and everything was booked up. We had a drink in the bar and then there was a cancellation!

The food was very well presented and tasted fresh. The service was good, especially as they were very busy. I d definitely recommend it.

Good service well prepared food good range of wine's and beers

Inexperienced bar staff. Served sediment from a bottle of red wine which when raised issue to management was shrugged off as acceptable, no apology. Did not stay for meal, not a happy experience.

Booked this venue for dinner for my Mums 60th. We had a party of 21 adults and 8 children. In the build up to the night Darren and Nadine were great, really helpful over email and really easy to deal with when booking something for so many people.
On the night, the venue was perfect, had our own area upstairs which was great for the kids. The food was brilliant, amazing value for money. The staff were all great too.
This venue is perfect for anyone looking to book a large group, especially with children. Everything about our evening was great.

Nice place to go for a roast on a Sunday. The food was very good. I enjoyed it alot. Try the beef. Around a very good pub

Very friendly service in a homely and vintage setting, providing well presented and enjoyable food at a reasonable price.

Visited on a Sunday and booked in, it was worth calling ahead as it did get quite busy. The meals were great, set on a 3 course menu although could do with more vegetarian options. Staff were super friendly and attentive.

Overall a lovely experience, highly recommended.

Very good restaurant. The food was fresh and tasty and the customer service was excellent. I would highly recommend. Only thing I would change is the desert menu - I eould include some tradional deserts e.g brownies; but otherwise a great evening.

This place is superb, been twice for Sunday lunch and it was amazing. Not had a roast out this good for years if ever! Portions are generous look great and are served with a smile. The place is relaxing with no annoying jazz music being played. No problem parking. Meal was great value too for 3 courses and drinks 50 quid. Will be back soon . Happy
