Another fantastic performance of Dr. Suess's How the Grinch Stole Christmas! Really enjoyed the show. Actors were top notch & make us want to return year after year. About 1 hour & 15 minutes, no intermission. Comfortable seats, easy to see stage from just about anywhere in the theatre. Light bites & drinks (including beer & wine) sold at the theatre before the show. But you have to finish prior to entering. Only water allowed inside. Parking can be tricky at Balboa park so keep that in mind. Free parking close to zoo lot, easy walk to theatre.
We are fans!

One word AMAZING

A small theater that hold at most 5-6 hundred. We saw arms and the man. A eight cast English comedy that had me crying I was laughing so hard.

A must do on a San Diego trip

The Old Globe is a very good venue for plays, musicals, and similar performing arts. Whether you purchase single event tickets or partial/full season packages, this is the place to take in theater--from Shakespeare to contemporary productions, including some great original debuts. Even seats at the extreme sides have good sight lines. Tip: Pre-order your coffee or beverage for intermission before the show starts. The free lot at the Spreckels Organ Pavillion typically has parking spots available.

My wife and I went to see How the Grinch Stole Christmas for the first time, is a very nice theater and not too big, which made it feel real cozy and all but guarantees a good seat anywhere you sit. The sound is really good and location is in the heart of scenic Balboa Park. I recommend you take in some theater there, very nice venue.

Always a first-class experience at this world-class theater. Located in the jewel, Balboa Park, in the heart of the City, this is an experience not to be missed. Leave plenty of time for parking search or ride-service in.

This is a great venue to watch theater. We were close to the top of the seating, and still had a great view. In fact, because there were many seats available, the ushers told us we could move forward, but our view was already so good we chose to stay in our seats.

I've seen two plays at The Old Globe, How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Dec 2017) and The Importance of Being Earnest (Feb 2018), and I thoroughly enjoyed both! The tickets were reasonably priced, I saw the Importance of Being Earnest for only $30!
I just saw The Importance of Being Earnest on Valentine's Day. The set was so pretty, my date and I both enjoyed the vibrant colors. The play was hilarious and I thought the cast did an amazing job. The acting was fantastic!
I love going to Balboa Park and The Old Globe is a wonderful theatre there. The theatre is beautiful and charming and a great way to spend an evening.

I and my mother came to see Familiar on the final night it played...it was SPECTACULAR! The old Globe has been doing a lot of community outreach and sharing of the arts with REAL San Diegans, not just the rich, older, non-ethnic people that it once seemed only to cater to(not that there's anything wrong with that). They have been presenting an entirely new type of show and diverse casts that make all of us feel more at home sitting in the audience. People sitting near us were friendly on all sides and the show was powerful yet relatable. We traveled between laughter and tears the entire time. It was Lovely. The staff was kind and welcoming and the snacks and drinks weren't as expensive as they could have been.

I watched a show in every section. There are no bad seats. Parking can be challenging especially during daylight hours. I recommend arriving at least an hour before. The Prado restaurant and other eateries are within short walking distance.

Lots of fun and particularly at Christmas time . A good tip is to go after Christmas nights on the prado Are over. You'll still have the Christmas atmosphere but less trouble parking and fewer crowds.

My wife and I went to a play here called Familiar that was written by Danai Gurira of The Walking Dead. I'm not normally a play person but this one was really, really good. The actors and actresses did a great job. I highly recommend this to anyone.

Globe outdoor stage Shakespeare Festival "Romeo and Juliet." Barry Edelstein blew the doors off! Fabulous show. Really made it very accessible to a wide range audience. The staging and the interpolation of contemporary music made the script bold and alive. A must see. A wonderful way to spend a San Diego Summer Evening. Bravo!

What an absolute treat in Balboa Park. We had a chance to get the family together from around the country and we stayed a few days in San Diego. My one daughter is at the Actors Studio in NY and I wanted to sneak in a play while we were on vacation. No one, including my other daughter who lives in San Diego had been to the theater. We caught God's of Comedy and the show was every bit of 5 out of 5 stars. The theater itself was tucked away in a gorgeous part of the park and you thought you were visiting Sherwood Forest. The theater was fantastic, there is not a bad seat in the house and the staff was fabulous. You can not say enough good things about this theater. I wished I lived in San Diego just so I could be close to the Old Globe.

This is one of the leading theatre companies in the country, producing a mix of original new work, new shows that recently premiered at other top theatres, and classics. There are three theatres, the "Old Globe," which is the oldest theatre. It was two levels and is indoors. There's the outdoor Lowell Davies Fesitval Stage, which has plastic, stadium style seats. Finally, there's the small White Theatre, which is in the round. They have a robust concessions stand, which serves food, snacks, and has a (nearly) full bar. Parking can be a challenge, so arrive early and allow yourself time to find parking and walk to the theatre. There is even a small gift shop. Overall, this theatre is a gem.

We have had season tickets for several years. It is true that there are no bad seats. All plays are very well acted and have great scenery - some of the best I've seen. Some have gone on to Broadway, some have bombed. But that's theater. You take the good with the not so good. Last season (2016) we left at intermission more times than we stayed. This season (2017) has returned to great theater. Don't be fooled by a play by someone you have seen in the movie theater. They are not always the best playwrights. Take a chance with perhaps the lesser priced seats (which are not cheap) and go for it. You will most likely walk away very satisfied. If it is a musical, you can count on something great - even if you have seen that musical 100 times!

San Diego's Old Globe has always been the best live theater venue in the city. The first play I saw here was Rhapsody Blues by Arthur Miller. Legendary experience.

Lately there have been several off Broadway shows that have come through and San Diego's actually staged a number of plays that originated locally that end up on Broadway.

Local philanthropist Conrad Prebys paid for a complete over haul of the courtyard a few years ago. That face lift added a pub with outdoor seating to enjoy a craft beer, glass of wine or light bite before a show. During the day it just creates a really nice outdoor space to enjoy the ubiquitous San Diego sunshine.

I really like that culture is expanding in San Diego since I grew up here and at the pinnacle of that expansion is the venerable Old Globe.

The Old Globe is one of my favorite theaters I've been to. The atmosphere is great and staff tends to be super friendly. I've seen the Grinch there, as well as two Pig Pen Theatre Co productions which were all amazing. Additionally, they host special events for people with autism that prevent shows from becoming overstimulating which is such a great way to integrate everyone in the community.

Dear friends The Old Globe Teaching to us as follo...

Dear friends The Old Globe Teaching to us as following words : Turn your personal painting into a piece of the earth's puzzle so that our unified assemblage of thoughts, experiences and lessons reveal common truths that cannot be denied. Imagine the changes that could happen if everyone suddenly stopped acting like someone else, became true to themselves, and celebrated the beauty of their uniqueness. Only after people have willingly removed their masks and costumes, and have begun pouring light from their hearts to reveal their vulnerability, dreams and pains, will we be able to see that beneath the surface we are all the same. After all, how can the world collectively fight for truth, if soldiers in its army are void of truth? We must first all be true by putting truth in our words and actions. And to do so, everyone must learn to think and react with their conscience. Imagine what Truth could do to neutralize the clutches of evil once this black and white world suddenly became embraced by a strong rainbow of loud powerful voices

The Old Globe's theater presentations are outstanding. There are no "bad" seats in any of the three theaters. The plays presented are top notch, and some have moved on to Broadway or off Broadway. Wonder addition to Balboa Park.

When walking around the Balboa Park, The Old Globe grabbed my attention right away. Couldn't help it to keep walking that direction to check out the beautiful building!

It turns out it is a theater. It is not a big venue, small but intimate. What a beautiful architecture!!
