The Old Barge Pub Review

Very Disappointed
Saw the great reviews as regards the food.
Thought it would be nice to go for a good pub meal.
They had a good selection of real ales.
We ordered a burger and ham egg and chips for myself. The portions were very small.See photo.
The ham was advertised as off the bone, indeed it was, except it had been of the bone for a good while. Three small thin dried slices.
I would not have served at home, let alone in a restaurant.
The burger came with onion rings except there were no onion rings.
Would have had a better meal in McDonald s

Cracking pub and well worth a visit. Have a burger!

Nice place and location and the food was ok but nothing exceptional. I had a Ceaser salad that came with lettuce instead of iceberg salad and the croutons were as bit bulky, there was though a nice touch adding anchioves.

Fantastic pub on the canal in Hertford... One of the gems. Incredible food, drink and wonderful staff... Definitely stop by for one or a few drinks...!

It was a lovely day outside and the barge was a beautiful setting for our afternoon in the sun, good food.

At short notice I needed to arrange a private party due to a family bereavement. The management of The Barge were very accommodating and arranged a private room. We all had a great meal and the service was excellent. We will definitely come again. Thank you. Les Fox

Very pleasant meal a little pricey. Brilliant pub to just grab a beer and sitting by the window and watching the world go by very slowly.

Best in town if you are looking for a quiet place and great choice.

I thought this was a nice pub and I saw a pirate and a parrot.

Good place for a drink or food. Right by the river and if the weather is fine it has a good amount of outside seating.

I love coming to this pub! The location is great and good range of beers to keep my hubby happy! The staff are always friendly and knowledgeable! Eaten here a few times and never disappointed and I think the new summer menu is the best one yet! Plenty of gluten free options for me, all presented perfectly! Obviously a few talented chefs in that kitchen! Couldn't recommend more!!

Good honest pub, in a good location, nice food. I feel the decor needs updating, things look a bit worn out. But otherwise worth a visit!

Very nice pub directly on the canal at Hertford. Does a nice pub lunch at a reasonable cost. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Lovely atmosphere and staff friendly and service really quick bringing out drinks ordered online. Would be a 5 star if they sold Guinness but highly recommend, food is also excellent

Don't forget lots of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free choices served in our restaurant.

13 of us for lunch, met with friendly staff, wide choice of food, all freshly well cooked.
Having advised them in advance that we were coming they had laid a specific long table for us. Similar to other resteraunts they add a service charge if there are more than 10 covers.

My favourite pub in Hertford. Lovely staff, good beer, tasty food and an old school, cosy feel. A tad noisy when families are in to eat, or the lads are in for a sesh, but then I have sensitive ears

It is by the river tucked away from the road. A very old pub, it has a restaurant and plenty of outside seating. There is a car park but it is very small. It is a very short walk away from Hartham Common which has enty of parking.

Lovely pub next to the river in Hertford. Interior is fairly cosy with an old but not too old vibe. The exterior fronts the river, but the beer garden is behind, next to a quiet road which is also quite nice and surrounded by twee buildings.
Service was incredibly friendly and relaxed and the food menu had a decent and varied selection. I had the fish and chips, which was good.
Seem to have a small but decent selection of pretty varied ales and beers.

Lunchtime family meal was a really calm environment with tasty food. Roast beef doorstep sandwich was generously filled and good value .Watching the ducks and geese on the river was a bonus .

Awesome Burger! Food was great the service was quick and the pub is in a nice location. Park in the car parks near by because there is next to no parking next to the pub. Awesome!

Good little pub. Decent beers - Jerusalem was my fave of the day. Function room upstairs go watch the rugby is quality, big projector screen, plenty of room and the food was good for the money. Awesome location too - right on the river, so plenty of ducks and pretty views etc.

The food in here is always spot on. With plenty of cosy corners, views over the canal and a relaxed vibe this Gastro Pub in the heart of town really is worth a visit.

Booking is advised at peak times. There is also parking for a handful of cars on site too.

Great selection of ales and good food. The staff are very friendly. The place is a popular watering hole for walkers and families.

First time I've been here after being recommended several times. I've got a few allergies and the server was very observant. The roast dinner is absolutely mouth watering. I had the beef and it was so tender. I like a lot of gravy, so I asked for more and I got a small jug. Fab food, service and atmosphere. All adhering to covid measures.
